    People voted Abbott in, and we got a stinking turd of a broadband network. But it turned out to be extremely expensive not at a lower cost at all. Not surprisingly.

      I had a conversation with a Telstra Technician at the time, and he explained to me that each “Node” Box required a Circuit Board worth $15,000 a piece that would need to be replaced frequently, whereas Fibre to the Home was almost Maintenance free. I also remember at the time the Libs saying that they weren’t going to fund Fibre to the Home simply so people could watch UA-cam clips easier. Just crazy.

    The dumbest decision ever made, went from an internet system that would of been the envy of the world to a internet system that is slower than some 3rd world countries. The reason that the original version was slow rolling out, was because people had to be trained to do the roll out. The money that has been lost to country has been immense, due to businesses that required high speed internet that would of been attracted never came and others to moving offshore.

    Hi mate, now you know what happened to our internet, if they ran fibre to every home as what labour proposed we wouldn't
    be in this mess.this is coming from NBN Wireless broadband because I'm in a rural area , its like a mobile tower but WI Fi, speed varies between 130 to 80 Mbps, 112 Mbps Down 9.5 Up at the moment Cheers

    My brother was a Marketing Firector at NBN at the start. He hated working with them and didn't stay very long. I went to a talk with the Labor Shadow Minister of Communications at the time and he said ' it's too hard and $$$ to unscramble the egg'

    Yes, the NBN is totally crap as a direct result of Tony Abbott's short-sighted vision of Australia's future online needs. What a massive blunder!
    As for Mad As Hell, it was a cleverly biting, & sometimes sublimely ridiculous, weekly show based on political satire & the skewering of society & pop culture. It wrapped up last year & is sorely missed.

    We live in a semi-rural area and bought a Starlink subscription. That's how much we think of how the NBN ended up. And I wouldn't change that decision even looking back on it.

      Ditto, we were on ADSL until 2021, early adopter of Starlink and have never looked back. Meanwhile local people continue to bitch and moan about their NBN speeds varying from a barely acceptable 10Mb/s to completely broken, breaking their Internet/VOIP.

    They've gone back to fibre to the premises/home in the cities and suburbs (some areas still being fixed) but regional/rural areas are still screwed. Try watching some of the older Roy and HG stuff and also do yourself a favour and watch the old Full Frontal and Fast Forward that Shaun Micallef is part of the team. Another older one is The Comedy Company

    Shaun Micallef's 'Mad as Hell' was some of his best work. The title of the series came from the monologue in the 1976 film 'Network' where Aussie actor Peter Finch plays the part of a network anchor and has a meltdown on air ... "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore ...".
    Great acting.

    Shaun is brilliant and he also had some very funny regulars on MAH - all very clever at portraying various characters. I used to like the fellow who played Aussie politician Mathius Corman who has an accent that sounds a bit like Arnold Schwarzenegger, but he just imitated him as full-on Arnie. The funniest and memorable one for me is called "Shorten Terminated". Not sure how to send you the link.

    I have wireless NBN which can suffer from slower speeds during higher traffic but generally, it isn't too bad. No doubt Labours NBN system would have been better overall but maybe wireless wouldn't have been much different. Let's face it, the Libs don't get much right when they hate spending money so much.

  • @davidcruse6589

    Thats happened because the previous government blew the budget like two or three time the cost
    Before this stage and it was ment been finished years prior
    So when they came into power there wasn't any money but hughe debt
    So they had to cheap out to get it to work at all with a hughe costs
    Still many places in country areas dont have it and still doing in cities
    It would've been cheaper to use satellite or radio towers like their all changing to
    Because most people use mobile devices only tv at home and some run them from phones

    • @miniveedub
      @miniveedub 14 днів тому

      What rot. They were a bunch of troglodytes who thought fast internet was unnecessary so they came up with a scheme that was supposed to be cheaper. They forgot all about the old copper network they wanted to use being near the end of its use by date it the fact a lot of it was insulated with asbestos which would have to be removed. So the costs blew out to way, way more than they would have with the original scheme.
      They destroyed the landline telephone system because the copper couldn’t be used for both and now if there is a power outage people don’t have access to a phone if they are in a poor reception area for mobiles. Too bad if there is an emergency, your VoIP needs wifi.
      They cost the country billions and made us the laughing stock of the world.

    • @TheRayhunt
      @TheRayhunt 14 днів тому

      Are you trying to imply Labour are to blame for the slow speed of our internet because the cost was more than they anticipated. So when the liberals won the election with Tony Abbott (as Prime minster) who was so unpopular, that his party got rid of him as leader (and he lost his safe liberal seat to an independent) and labour won. That labour was to blame? 😂
