This is my reaction to The Shaun Micallef Programme - Feminism
In this video I react to Australian comedy from Australian comedy sketch show The Shaun Micallef Programme that is about Feminism where he invites a feminist guest on and comedy ensues.
Original Video - • The Shaun Micallef Pro...
Shaun is probably the King of absurdist comedy in Australia. From his characters on Full Frontal/Fast Forward like Milo Kerrigan, Fabio (the Most Beautiful Man in The Cosmos), and David McGahan, to the various incarnations of The Micallef P(r)ogram(me)/Micallef Tonight/Newstopia/, to Mad as Hell. Each and every one was capable of sending the viewer into stitches or utter confusion. Even all these years later I can't watch a Milo sketch without tears running down my cheeks.
At one point Channel Nine poached him, but apparently had no idea what they were buying other than the fact he was popular. The show got off to a typically bizarre start (Shaun conducting a long-winded introduction to his first guest, then ending the interview almost immediately since he'd covered everything there was to talk about) and then was spectacularly canned after some unintended foreshadowing.
His Fabio stuff is still funny after all this time, unlike other comedians from the same period
@@NicholasTurnerOZ when he rides in on the bike, turns it off, starts talking and the bike starts up again is fkn hilarious
He is a very smart guy, Amish road rage is one of my favourites.
Best thing to ever come out of Australian TV.
bad cop, bad cop was close, and mad as hell/newstopia.
Lano and Woodley, another top contender.
@@sfdntk Ah not even in the same league tbh
@@Ashadowtotheworld No way, Lano and Woodley are iconic!
He has so many great comedy sketches from over the years. I think my favourites from back in the day were a short sketch series he had called “Roger Explosion”. He was playing a character called David McGahan (one of his long running characters) who had an acting past as Roger Explosion (a 007 type character).
My friend once met him and told him he likes Milo Kerrigan. Shaun replied "You can have him!"
incredibly glad there’s more reactions to the micallef program. this is australia’s best comedian in his best show. i’ve waited and hoped for many years someone would do reactions to this.
there’s a lot of nominations for best sketch. polite distances is short but arguably his finest.
Also, check out Shaun as Milo Kerrigan!! So funny!
I get the giggles everytime
I still nearly wet my pants
I just love all the characters they came up with, with the silly names. I miss that show.
Such a great show - I love the Dracula has a sea change sketch and the Polite Distances sketch - All the David Mcgan's world sketchs are great too. Keep these reactions coming!
“Hey everyone! Bazza here used to be a vassal to the Turkish army in the fifteenth century!
“I guess you had to be there.”
Polite distances is the bestest
“Dra-cula, like West Coast Cooler” 😂
The people in the thread not understanding that the joke is on the interviewer exposing his sexism as satire is frightening.
It’s a great sketch that I’d never seen; must of been on a commercial station. But I wouldn’t get too worried by comments - it’s very clear that people who search out affirmation of their idk, cultural uniqueness? have a kind of tabloid view of the world. I’m just glad that our Scots host has found some treasure amongst the trash he’s usually asked to review.
It was on the ABC 1998 I think this episode was made @@kathyconway5327
In your opinion. You are God like though. In your own opinion. Unfortunately not everybody has such a high opinion of themselves as you.
@@kathyconway5327ABC. No commercial channel would ever show anything like this.
Micallef's comedy is the very best Australia has produced.
He nailed irony, absurdism and satire.
As an Australian I love to see someone finally reacting to Shaun Micallef. If you want to see something a bit different from his show, I recommend the English Have A Go and Spiffington Manse sketches.
He is a Lawyer /Barrister? by trade. He does the straight man part so well
He has a law degree but has almost never worked as one. I think he got started doing revues at university. I can't remember him putting on a bad show.
@@Ken-er9cqThat is correct. Adelaide University. That's where he met Francis.
@@daniellamcgee4251 He mentioned somewhere that in common with Andrew Bolt he went to Adelaide University and now presents a pretend current affairs program.
Saying lawyer "by trade" seems weird...like he's a chippy or a sparky.
@@MrDeano-eu9rg
Good point, can't confuse lawyers with honest workers.
Brilliant. Was actually called The Micallef Pogram, causing most to think the TV Guide had made a typo..Week after week. :)
Actually it was called The Micallef Program for the first series, then in the first episode of the second series Shaun noted that people had written letters to the ABC complaining about the US spelling of "program", so the second series was named The Micallef Program(me), and then in the third series he renamed it to The Micallef Pogram as a reference to the first two name changes. It's convention now to refer to the show as The Micallef P(r)ogram(me) when talking about the series as a whole.
He was great as the host of 'Talking bout your generation' too! 🤗
BTW, for a little context. Shaun used to be a lawyer before he got into comedy - which you can notice in a lot of his sketch comedy dialogue.
Shaun hosted a game show called Talkin’ ‘bout your generation.
And it was hilarious! There are probably a few clips here on UA-cam.
His faux interviews are simply the best on the planet. So many packed and powerful verbal punches in this discourse.
He is Brilliant.
If I can suggest one sketch - "I bloody Dare Ya!" - a take off of those challenge celebrity shows - it's fantastic
Love Shaun ! There was a show in Australia called "Thank God You're Here ' He was so good when he was on it! I'd love to see a reaction to an episode of that show.
I have this collection on DVD, and still love to watch it from time to time.
I am familiar with Shaun Micallef. I really like this satire type sketch, especially when addressing certain issues in society. Thank you Elizabeth from Australia.
Ooowhh, kid in a candy store time! My favourites are - Count Dracula's sea change; "Cockburn"; filing cabinet prostitute and Randy Twiss as Quasimodo changing a car tyre and singing the Lord's prayer.
Once you stumble over language, you're toast. It's like trying to select the right words to avoid the firing squad.
Found it Milo kerrigan..so good bro
You gotta check out Eric Banner as Poida on the Aussie comedy show, Full Frontal. He's hilarious!
Bana*
@mcrotor77 Bloody predictive text! Plus I have ALS, so using my hands is hard!!!!!!
@@gregdownton4096 Well, his real name is Eric Banadinović so he could've used Banner. Plus, he did play Bruce Banner 🤣
@@mcrotor77 saw the Bana hulk movie at the flicks and the first shot of him my sister in law lent over and whispered "I can't get past him being Poida." and then I couldn't either lol
Shaun was certainly ahead of time c. 30 years ago. PS any chance of not squishing the video down so much, as it was a bit flattened. 👍
He's a great guy. I've had him in my studio many times and he's truly a brilliant guy both on air and off. Slightly less manic off air. On air you have to keep your wits about you as his mind works at lightning speed.
The Dr. Miracle sketches were hilarious. There was a lawyer one as well but I forgot the name.
You've got to check out Shaun's much more recent news 'satire' show 'Mad as Hell' pretty much everything he does is excellent - a true Australian treasure
Have a look at Bob and Cheryl Ugly, from Full Frontal!! Absolute classic!
Or Neville and Beuila. Hello Raaayyyyy! God only know how many takes those skits needed.
My favourite Aussie comedian. Super clever and lightening quick.
He’s always been very popular, was great in old Full Frontal tv show
There are so many good sketches you really should watch the entire show.
Shaun Micallef is brilliant, one of his characters called Milo the boxer should have you in absolute hysterics!
The sketch "Dog Whistle" is my favourite, it's on youtube as well.
we had a show here called" thank god youre here" it was all improv. he fking killed it. love shaun. he also had a show a few years ago about news and politics. very clever if your into that stuff. im not into politics and it was still hilarious. he just takes the piss out of everyone hahahaha. cleverly. hahaha
He was unreal on Thank God You're Here. So was Angus Sampson and Carl Baron
Transsexual discussion is another peak Micallef surrealist sketch.
Check out this clip from his Mad as Hell satirical talk show - "They've Got A Pamphlet | Shaun Micallef's MAD AS HELL"
Some of his sketches just broke your brain back in the day. There was one I can't find on UA-cam where he's playing a doctor and tells a woman "I'm sorry, we've lost him" and she hugs him and starts crying l, but then reels back looking disgusted and says "you've got an erection!", to which the doctor character replies "oh no it's my belt, I've got a big old buckle on it!" before the scene randomly cuts to two men dressed like The Two Ronnies...so bizarre
Great show
One must remember that Shaun Micallef is a practicing Barrister.
Autograph hunter sketch
When society has everything, it becomes exhausting to endure.
KreepySpooks theatre restaurant sketch. Schnitzels!
How is Shaun in his 30's here. Holy crap. He is 61 now and looks identical.
The political sketch is brilliant, but, please dude, you gotta watch the brilliance of I bloody dare you. It’s the one with the kayak. Surrealism and pure wit combined for comic genius.
That and polite distances.
His Woody Allan impersonation is bloody amazing.
just love this man’s humour
Claude Bilé and his invisible poodles 🐩
Yes Shaun is the best of the best on Australian TV .. did you know that he had a show over 15 years ago where Hanna Gasby was his co host
Micallef should take over the daily show in the us
The Micallef program/programme/pogram were brilliant. Sketch comedy at it’s best.
Plenty of classics but I get a real kick out of the cockburn sketch.
MILO KERRIGAN!
By far his best character!
Micallef is one of the original Full Frontal crew from back in the day. Been sh!tting on politicians for decades.
His Milo Kerrigan character was the best. Absolutely hilarious.
Micalleff. It's all good! What's with the aspect ratio of the clip???
Many people dont realise that Shaun Micallef once had the potential to be as big as Steve Vizard. Its Really True.
Such a difficult sketch to write. It would be so easy to go over the top, but Shaun has it well balanced. There are some beautiful little gestures and deliveries. I think it would be a hard sell for anyone to pick up on his humour on first viewing. Well done to those who did. I have a few American friends who would simply dismiss this out of hand and pleadingly ask what on earth was funny about it.
I find Roz very attractive, on both levels.
Brilliant, subtle humour, I love it!
I'm in love with Roz too. I wished l was Wayne Hope in "Ms Nude Australia" when he cuts the ribbon and she's a dignatry
Shaun Micallef is an oldschool legend.
That's quite old, you should check out his more recent stuff - Mad as Hell. It might not hit as well since it involves a lot of local political satire, with the cast impersonating various federal politicians.
If you like Shaun Micallef I recommend searching for D Generation, The Late Show and Fast forward. It was Australian sketch comedy at it's finest. Plenty of irreverant jokes which couldn't be told now.
Dr Miracle
I met him! Great guy
If you haven’t yet seen them. The Doug Anthony Allstars are brilliant
Espionage is a french word for surveillance, subterfuge and reconnaissance.
Do the Blind mountain climber interview sketch from this pogram.
Sotto Voce!
A true masterpiece
He's the only oerson who I think operates at Python level humour re absurdism
One of our best comedians. If you want to see another funny Australian comedian check out Norman Gunston.
Also check out Uncle Arthur from the Comedy Company! I grew up watching this comedy! Far better than today's crap!
Mick-a-leff POGRAM (ahh that ep with Kenny G is Hi Lara we us. I have the complete collection from fast fed to full frontal etc
Genius. Lawyer from Adelaide poking holes in society
Fabio..! The Most Beautiful Man in the Cosmos!
This series of the Micallef P(r)ogram(me) featured a lot of sketches in which Shaun kisses Roz, like a LOT of sketches, to the extent that it almost became a little suss, like he was into her and kept writing sketches that would let him make out with her. Just speculation of course, as far as I know they've never been romantically linked, it was just very noticeable when the series aired.
Milo Kerrigan sketches from Full Frontal - physical / slapstick gold.
I think that you would like the UA-cam video entitled, “Micallef - Transsexual Discussion” and maybe “Shaun Micallef - English Have a Go”. They are both from this same show.
You would probably also like “Shaun Micallef Aboriginal Sketch”. That’s from the Australian sketch show Full Frontal and not from The Micallef Progamme, so I don’t know if you’ll want to react to that one or not. It is the. same sort of humour.
I have labelled the videos by the names they have on UA-cam. They are not necessarily the official names of the sketches.
Shaun Micallif is one of our best comedians. Love him. Another Aussie comedian I'm sure you'd appreciate is Simon Taylor. Try his Ethnic Aussie Accents skit..
Behind the badge police sketch
Omg that is golden
Shaun Micallef interviewing. Cockburn: ua-cam.com/video/Uff6XA9bmAE/v-deo.htmlsi=wKh18Xi0zXli7enp
If you like that, you should watch the micallef program transgender skit. Hilarious!
that was in the 80s humour - today everyone is different
I grew up with Shaun's humour. Check Clarke and Dawe. ☮️
The sketch where he interviews a blind person is hilarious. Also "The Filth" where he plays a bumbling police officer with Glen Butcher who he worked with on Full Frontal 😝
watch the "hypothetical spoof" sketch - v funny
Shaun has plenty of writers.
Uni degree, good on you 😂
Do him as a boxer...well done
Milo was his name😊
Milo Kerrigan
There’s another one on transgender you must see
Tim Minchin. If you want other worldly talented comedy. Tim Minchin.

these are some of the best practical skits I have seen on any show
Finish it off with the cockburn sketch
Shaun Micallef is what you would call my favourite Australian comedy. He is amazing, that was good, but I have seen better. 😂😅😂
The Micallef P(r)ogram(me)
I always found this segment poignant. She clearly fancies Shaun, but he can’t get out of his own way despite her giving him countless opportunities to be open in expressing his affections for her. That kiss she gives him at the end and the look on her face as she walks off- and the look on his face as he’s left standing there- is powerful stuff…
Help make a dying kid's dream come true sketch…
Spanish translator sketch
I`ve met him. You should move here mate
