Hi! I just stumbled on your channel. I am a book lover in NWCT ! I love hearing your reviews and book suggestions. I have a free library in front of our house that I keep for our community. There is always a flow of good reads. What I am reading: The Time Travelers Wife I never saw the movie, I will watch after the read. A Deadly Grind (for my first Cozi light read) Some of my more recent completed reads: These reads are not trendy but dusty finds! Red-Tails in Love Marie Win A five star read for me! Love this book! A shelf keeper! Dream When your Feeling Blue A four star - Keeping - Great cover Summer at Tiffany - Majorie Hart A four star - Keeping goes well with purple nail polish :) God on a Harley -Joan Brady A quick sweet read Keeping for now The Ghost and the Haunted Portrait - maybe a 3 star - still trying to get through- will pass on. The only sort of OLDER trendy ones: Where did you go Bernadette? LOVED Sharing The Red Tent LOVED Keeping Hope you have a great day! P.S LOVE your hair mine is almost grown out too!
Hi and welcome! :) That's so nice that you have a free library by your house for your neighborhood! I haven't read any that you listed so far, but I put that 5 star ones on my list (Red-Tails in Love). I just read the synopsis and it sounds great! Thank you for sharing all of your recent and current reads with me. And thank you for the compliment about my hair. I stopped coloring it about 6 years ago. Some days I like it more than others, but I'm happy to be free from the never-ending hair dye. It's awesome to embrace the silver. ;)
I had also done a reread of Fall of the House of Usher in order to read What Moves the Dead. I enjoyed the Poe, but ended up not being able to finish What Moves the Dead. I did not enjoy the audio narrator on that one. I've heard good things about the Kate Daniels series and have been wanting to get to that one. The Sunbearer Trials sounds really interesting, that's on the TBR now!
Hi Staci! I hope you enjoy The Sunbearer Trials if you get to it! Magic Bites was really fun. I have a feeling I'm really going to like the rest of them. I agree about the audio narrator for What Moves the Dead. I didn't care for their voice or the way they spoke (they used an American accent, which I didn't think fit well) either and ended up switching to the ebook and I enjoyed it much more. :)
Hercules Poirot is my favorite detective on film. That Halloween movie was hard to watch. Dracula sounds really interesting! You picked some great books to read during the spooky season, unlike us, lol. (That Dude's Mom )
Hi Dude's Mom! I'm excited to read more about Poirot in more books to come as I can see why many people really enjoy his character. Dracula was definitely interesting! I enjoyed it a way that I wasn't expecting. :) Hopefully, next spooky season will be a better reading experience for you and That Dude! :)
I loved Agatha Christie when I was in middle school and picked her back up this year. But Halloween Party made me question why I was reading her. I did not like the mental health rep. I love the Kate Daniels series. I really need to add that to my reread list. Ilona Andrews is a husband/wife writing team, which is not something that you see all the time. Also, I'm so excited that you picked up The Sunbearer Trials. :)
Yeah, I don't think Hallowe'en Party was a good example of her better writing and I've heard a lot of people say that some of her books don't age very well. I had forgotten about Ilona Andrews being a husband/wife team. Thanks for the reminder! Have you read any of their other series? I know they have a few shorter ones out (Innkeeper Series, maybe it's called?) I hope to read more from them!
I felt the same about Hallowe'en Party. It had a lot going on with all the backstory. I gave it 3 stars and a shrug. It was *all right*. Lol. That being said, I LOVED what they did with it for A Haunting in Venice. Definitely one of those cases where the movie was better than the book. I collect Agatha Christie books, but alas, I am in the beginnings of my journey with reading her. I've read And Then There Were None, Murder on the Orient Express (best so far; adaptation was great), Death on the Nile (adaptation wasn't as good; didn't appreciate the changes), and Hallowe'en Party. Happy reading!!
Hi Koda! I'm glad I wasn't the only one that felt that way about Hallowe'en Party. "3 stars and a shrug" is the perfect description, haha! I'm really looking forward to checking out A Haunting in Venice and I'm glad to hear it was so good. I'm kind of reading the lower rated ones first on purpose, so I can save the good ones for last! I think And Then There Were None will be one that I save for the end. :)
I didn't realise there were so many Poirot books, that makes me happy because I'm only 5 in, although that one sounds a bit of a dud. Magic Bites sounds like it has a lot going on.
Yeah, Magic Bites was a bit confusing for sure. I've heard people say "just start with the 2nd book" lol. Yeah, I'm also really happy that I've only scraped the surface of Poirot so far. There are definitely people that enjoyed this one, but I don't really see the allure. :)
I need to read more Agatha Christie. I did see the recent adaption of Hallowe'en Party and enjoyed it. Sounds like it was a good month, with plenty of good reads. I hope November continues the trend for you. :)
Glad you enjoyed the movie! I hear you, I'm surprised I've made it this long without reading her books. Oh well, better late than never. :) Hope you have a good rest of your reading month as well, Matthew!
I still haven’t read Hallowe’en Party and I’ve had it for months. I also want to read Fall of the House of Usher. I spotted a cute kitty in the background 😀
Haha, that's Mary, she loves to sneak on camera! ;) I hope you do enjoy Hallowe'en Party when you read it. It definitely had it's good moments. The Fall of the House of Usher was pretty good once I figured out what was going on! :)
@@bookstalgic Oh, Mary is adorable. I love cats and my two are always meowing in the background when I try to film lol. I am going to try to read Hallowe'en Party this week before we're completely into the Christmas mode. The Fall of the House of Usher might have to wait. I'm booklogged lol.
Hallowe'en Party is actually considered to be one of Agatha Christie's worst books. It was written at a time when she was starting to experience some cognitive slippage and it shows. I read it last year and didn't love it. The good news is that A Haunting in Venice, which is "based" on Hallowe'en Party, is actually completely (and I do mean completely!) different. A lot of Christie purists hated that movie, but I actually really enjoyed it.
Hi Melinda! Thanks for the Agatha Christie insight. Another reviewer I follow said similar things. The killer's motives were just.....way out there, ha. I'm definitely looking forward to checking out the movie as well. I don't mind if it doesn't stick closely to the book plot. LOL.
Ok, this is getting a little weird. I literally just picked up Dracula! (probably starting it today) I think I mentioned I was going to go get What Moves the Dead after you said it was related to the The House of Usher. I went to the bookstore last weekend to get it, and stumbled upon a copy of Carmilla, which I hadn’t heard of and supposedly had a big influence on Dracula. I picked it up, read it right away and really liked it, so I said “well, I guess I should probably read Dracula now.” I got this Penguin Classics Deluxe edition, which I think is the prettiest Penguin I’ve ever seen.
Hi Dave! Wow, we definitely seem to be on the same book wavelength lately! What Moves the Dead ended up being really fun - I loved the fungus parts :). Someone recommended Carmilla to me as well, so I’m glad you enjoyed it! I know Dracula was a hit or miss for some people and had some parts that were a bit slow, but for some reason, I just really enjoyed it and I must’ve read it at a good point where I didn’t mind the slowness. Lol. I really hope you enjoy it and that’s awesome that you picked up such a beautiful edition! I have been trying to think about which edition I want to purchase for my collection and it might be that one! Hope you and Olive have a nice weekend. :-)
How wonderfully told each book was. Loved all your reviews.
Thank you so much, Flo! I'm glad you enjoyed the reviews because sometimes I feel like I'm all over the place! I really appreciate your comment :)

I had never heard of them either until Booktube. :) I hope you enjoy them if you end up reading them! Thanks for watching, Matt :)

magic bites sounds like something I would love and ive never heard of it before! ill definitely be checking it out h😊
Hi Grace! Yeah, it was really fun! Apparently the rest of the series is even better than the first book, but I still liked the first book regardless:)

I always gravitate around Poe. I should definitely give it a try 😂
Haha, I’ve always gravitated around Poe too. I might try another short story though! :)
