These all sound good! I have read quite a few Stephen King books and they are hit or miss for me, but I keep hearing how great the Shining is so I am going to have to read it.
I also LOVED the Millenium trilogy. Thanks to these books I got hooked on thrillers. Started reading Jo Nesbo, Simon Beckett, Chris Carter, etc afterwards and nowadays I read all kinds of thriller authors. I can HIGHLY recommend anyone who loved the character Lisbeth Salander the book "Secrets of the Tattooed Girl" by Dan Burstein et al.
*Southern Guide to Slaying Vampires* has just been borrowed and I should be getting to it in the next couple of days & *Sundown Motel* is on hold. I have been interested in reading *The Girl with Dragon Tattoo* trilogy since LOVING Rooney Mara as Lisbeth in the film adaptation. *The Shinning & Gone Girl* are two of my favorites too!
Just yesterday I read my first horror book: It by Stephen King and I LOVED IT! It’s awesome! I don’t really intend to read a lot of horror books, because I’m a scared cat, but this one was worth it. Really. I really really loved it. For me, it was a very good choice to start reading Stephen King and I highly recommend. I’ve already chose the next one: 11/22/63.
Jessie, you are the first person I’ve seen in this community who loves The Shining as much as me! It’s my favorite Stephen King novel. I just hauled The Whisper Man and Imaginary Friend. Hope to get to them this fall. Also have a few Riley Sager novels to read. Have you read any of his books? Is their one you recommend?
There are two more trilogies in this series, written by other authors. Not quite up to Stieg Larsson's quality - but if you want more of these amazing characters ....
I truly enjoyed the Sun Down Motel. The twist at the end was interesting, for sure, but I rated similar to you. It was a bit of a step outside of what I usually read, but I'm happy I took that step and opened that door. I have not read The Shining, but I am thinking October will be a great month to read it. I would encourage you to try Carrie, it's one of my Stephen King favorites. It's a different writing format, but a relatively fast read. And, Alex North is definitely on my list of future purchases. 😊
I'm so glad you also enjoyed The Sun Down Motel! I loved all those ghostly elements in the story. :) Oh absolutely need to read Carrie! I've enjoyed all the King books I've read so far, can't wait to get to it! I'll have to bump it up on the TBR since you enjoyed it! I look forward to seeing what you think of North's books. :) I really need to read The Shadows next!
I have just finished The Whisper Man. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was going to take a supernatural turn at one point too. Definitely going to read his next book.
The southern book clubs guide to slaying vampires sounds great ;-) going to pick it up definitely. For spooky season ill be picking up Sleeping Beauties by Stephan and Owen King. I have already read The Shining its one of my favorite Stephan King books of all time.
I felt the same way about Behind Her Eyes and also Behind Closed Doors! I’m excited to read The Whisper Man and also to see how I feel about Imaginary Friend!
0:32 Behind Her Eyes 1:52 The Souther Book Clubs Guideto Slaying Vampires 3:02 The Sundown Motel 4:25 The Shining 5:31 Gone Girl 6:40 Behind Closed Doors 7:34 The Last Mrs. Parish 8:50 The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Trilogy (Millennium Trilogy) 10:26 The Whisper Man 12:14 The Dry 13:45 Imaginary Friend Cheers!
New subscriber!!!! My favorite books are psychological thriller, horror, suspenseful! The scarier the better!!!! I’m reading The Shinning now for the first time! The Last Mrs. Parrish will be my next book to read! Thanks!
Yes!!! Southern Book Club’s - 5 🌟 Gone Girl - 5 🌟 . The Last Mrs. Parrish was so freaking good! Loved it. The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo I read in high school and it blew me away (will need to reread). So excited to pick up the ones I haven’t read on the list. 😅
Read Behind Closed Doors in two days. One of the greatest and most sadistic villains ever and the ending is brilliant. Started The Whisper Man this morning and so far feeling dread of what is coming up - very well written.
I've had 2 months of readers block and then out of the blue about a week ago I all of a sudden fancied reading a book and I remembered watching this video a while ago and I've literally sought it out trying to find out the title of Imaginary friends and I'm so glad I found this video again 😀😀 It just came this morning and I cannot wait to start it. It sounds like my sort of thing but you definitely inspired me to check it out, so thank you!! 😊
I don’t think I have ever read a horror book now that I’m really thinking. Definitely thrillers but nothing explicitly horror. I guess I’ll have to try!
Horror is a genre I want to get more into for sure! It’s like combining fantasy and thriller genres and I love everything I’ve read so far in the genre!
Did you read "Salem's Lot" in the Stephen King omnibus you've got? Highly recommended...some other oldies you might like are "The Exorcist" by William Peter Blatty (much better and scarier than the movie), "The Stand" by King (probably his magnum opus), "Coma" by Robin Cook, and "Rosemary's Baby" by Ira Levin. They'll keep you up at night.
The Dry and The Whisper Man both sound amazing because they seem to have more depth than your typical thriller novel. I have a hard time finding thrillers/suspense novels that I love because they seem to be kind of shallow, I guess. I completely agree with you on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. It is an amazing series! I absolutely loved My Best Friend’s Exorcism.
SarahAsYouWish I think they offer A LOT more than just the typical detective thriller plot! I also have a hard time finding ones I absolutely love! Oooh I have my best friends exorcism and can’t wait to get to it!
One of my favourite videos of all time, Jessie! 😍 ah, I loved the content of this SOOOO much! Plus your enthusiasm for these titles always sees me adding these to my neverending TBR 😅 I definitely want to check out The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Dry, Behind Closed Doors and The Last Mrs Parrish!! 😁 plenty more reading to get me through these dark months! For me The One, The Woman in the Window, The Whisper Man and Final Girls are recent thrillers which stand out. Btw I’m loving your hair - the colour really suits you 😍🤗💜
What a great list! I've read half of them and love all but one (Gone Girl, sadly, doesn't do it for me). Sundown Motel was my kind of spooky. Grady Hendrix is excellent pulp with pathos. And The Shining is an absolute classic. You should definitely make time for Salem's Lot this fall. It is simultaneously a love story, a moving portrait of a small town, and a downright frightening horror novel. Based on what you said here, you would LOVE it. This was my first time stumbling across your channel, and you won me over. Liked and subscribed! Thanks for putting out excellent videos like this one.
If you're interested in more Grady Hendrix books, I REALLY enjoyed and recommend "My Best Friend's Exorcism" I don't even usually like that sub-genre of horror but not only did I like it, it's one of my favorite novels.
I read a few of these titles, and agree with you on all I've read. In fact, I just finished Imaginary Friend today! While I do think it dragged (just a bit) I agree that it's a great read with some intriguing characters. I've been recommending to family since about 40 pages in. Plus, Ambrose is the man. Thanks for the list ( I'm ordering TSBCGtSV currently, based on your recommendation. Also, thank you for your unflinching enthusiasm for reading.; it's quite refreshing as we strive on in a world dripping in screen addiction. Peace to you, and happy reading.
This video made me SO happy 😃. I’ve yet to come across one I relate to like this. I own half of these books and haven’t read them yet!! Currently reading The Shining! THANK YOU for this video 🙌!
Love the fall decorations on your bookshelf! The Shining is so good... so different from the movie!!! So so different, but I loved the book way more. I think you should read Misery if you haven't, that's also one of my favorite Stephen King books... outside of The Dark Tower, anyway. That series totally blew my mind. Always wanted to get around to The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series. Good recommendations :) I'll have to check out a few that I haven't read before.
Jessie Mae IMO one of the best movie book comparisons. Especially considering Kathy Bates. I read the book after I watched the movie and she couldn’t have done a better job
I really want to read the southerner's book club's guide to slaying vampires! That title alone makes me intrigued. I'm reading Behind closed doors and the Last Mrs Parrish in October and I'm so excited!
I just finished Behind Her Eyes last night. I was someone who didn’t like the twist at the end. I was disappointed. I don’t want to give anything away so I won’t go into details 😄
I have four favorite Stephen King books, that I read voraciously when I got them: The Shining, 'Salem's Lot, The Dead Zone and The Stand. All other King books pale in comparison to me. My favorites classified: scary: The Shining. Creepy/exciting: 'Salem's Lot. Emotional: The Dead Zone. Epic: The Stand. Since you like thrillers I highly, highly HIGHLY recommend Red Dragon and Silence Of The Lambs by Thomas Harris. Still the grandfather of the 'serial killer' genre, as far as I am concerned, because he is the first writer to actually speak to the FBI's behavioral unit to come up with not only his killers, but Hannibal Lecter, as well. Although the movie for Silence is the best adaptation I have ever seen from page to screen I still recommend you read it so you can get into the mind of Clarice Starling. Jodie Foster did her justice, but as we know with books she couldn't deliver those internal monologues we all have. I did not care for Hannibal, or Hannibal Rising, as they are huge let downs from the first two. But read Red Dragon first, since that was first. Thanks for the recommendations.
I've never read any of the "Millennium" novels, so I'll be ordering "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" soon. I've just ordered my next read, "The Cousins" by Karen M. McManus - its a YA mystery, which I love, but I've been meaning to get into more adult thrillers. This is a fantastic list, going to read as many as I can!
I feel you on recommending books that are your favorite but won't be for everyone. That how I feel about Jemisin as an author and also right now The Machineries Empire Series. Like I love that series because its confusing but I also know people don't want necessarily want to work that hard when they read lol
Thank you so much for recommending TLMParrish, the halfway point flipped my mind.. it’s still continuing to every chapter 😱. Subscriiiiibed! Thank you ❤️
I love the enthusiasm! I definitely put a few of these on my list based on your video. I love the movie The Shining but I've seen it so many times that I never got around to reading the book because I figured it would be about the same, but it sounds like it has its own character to it so I'm excited to check it out!
I thought Imaginary Friend was amazing for the first half of the book, but after that it seemed to drag on sooooo much! Maybe I’ll reread it one day to give it another shot but by the end I wanted to throw it out the window.😂😅
I love this since I have been wanting to read more thrillers/horror!!! Imaginary Friend and Whisper Man are on my TBR for October and I really want to get the Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires.
Yay! I'm reading The Shining next month! :D I've been looking for something super creepy/scary so I had to watch this asap. Oooh Alex North! I have his follow up on my shelf and I need to read it! Oh man... Imaginary Friend again.... I *really* want to read that one!
I felt the story of Imaginary friend dragged on. It was a great first half of setting everything up and the characters were great but I felt it just kept going and going when it could have ended and even gotten to the same point a lot sooner.
I was thinking of adding Behind her Eyes to my tbr. I have been hearing good things and its on my shelves. I also have Imaginary Friend based on your recommendations. Have not read it yet. Just finished The Other People. Its an easy quick read. I gave it 4 stars.
I have Imaginary Friend on my TBR for October! I have a feeling I’m going to love it 😍 I also added Behind Her Eyes and The Dry to my endless Goodreads TBR 😁
Yesss!! Behind Closed Doors!! So bizarre!!! And I really want to read Imaginary Friend. I'm hoping I'll love it as much as you. So you would take IF over WoK?
Hey, Jessie, I've been wanting to get more into thrillers, but I have kind of a low tolerance for super creepy stuff. It would be really cool if you did like an "intro to thrillers" video for some of us who are primarily SFF readers but want to get into thrillers!
I think you really can jump into thrillers anywhere! If you have a low tolerance for creepy things, I would highly recommend checking out domestic thrillers since they are pretty light on the gore and "horror elements". So books like The Last Mrs. Parrish and Gone Girl are great ones to read!
I’ve only read one of these but so many are on my TBR!! I’ve heard such mixed things about the Chobosky book that I’m suppppper nervous to pick it up lol
I've definitely heard that Behind Her Eyes is a love/hate book. I believe I have it, so I'll try to read it this fall! Haha oh man, Southern Book Club was super fun (but there were definitely moments where I wanted to throw the book across the room). The Sun Down Motel is on my list to read this fall as well! YESSSS The Shining is excellent. I think that's also my favorite, though I do really like 'Salem's Lot and The Green Mile as well. I was literally looking at Behind Closed Doors the other day! I'm glad to hear that it's worthwhile. I'm also planning on reading The Whisper Man this fall! Haha oh my goodness, I also just got a copy of The Dry.
First off, I Love You! You remind me of myself so much! We are sweet and bubbly but love those thrillers! Second, you need to read "Desperation" by Stephen King. It is my ALL TIME FAVORITE. By him and is such an AMAZING story with so many thrills. You long for light throughout the whole book and rarely find it.
The Millennium Trilogy (Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) is one of my book series that I supah love! 💞💞💞🐲 Lisbeth Salander is fierce! 💞 I also recommend legal thrillers like A Time to Kill by John Grisham. 😊 You can also try The Firm by John Grisham. 😊
It's called The Millennium Trilogy. And Steig Larson define Nordic Noir. He did such an amazing job , plus the character Mikael is such a non problematic alpha man. Gosh
He died suddenly after he finished the third book. He had originally planned 10 books and had the fourth partially completed. His publisher had another Swedish author finish it and two others so I think that finishes the series.
I know this is a older video hopefully you see this, but if you haven’t read The stranger in the mirror by Liv Constantine try it out.. I liked it and it’s similar to The Last Mrs.Parrish in the way that it goes a total opposite direction
I love how enthusiastic she explain how good the books are. I saved like all of the books to my TBR. 😂
Aw thank you!!
"Fried Green Tomatoes meets Dracula" is such a great description.
Behind Her Eyes is one of my favorites! The ending is so unpredictable! 😍🤩
These all sound good! I have read quite a few Stephen King books and they are hit or miss for me, but I keep hearing how great the Shining is so I am going to have to read it.
"Behind her eyes, nobody is going to guess the twist"
i'll take that challenge
after reading: yup
🤣🤣🤣
Did the same..same results
🤭
it's brain
It must be the butler. It's always the butler.
I’m too wimpy for most scary books, but so many of these sound so good!
Elliot Brooks I’m a wimp when it comes to scary movies but for whatever reason, reading horror doesn’t bother me at all! 👻
I don't get scared by books for some reason lol
@@JessieMaeBooks omg we're exactly the same, i can't ever watch horror movies but books on the other hand... SIGN ME UP lmaoo
Behind Closed Doors is what got me into thrillers and I want a sequel.
Jessie, you are so persuasive at book recommendations! I don't even typically read this genre but want to read all of these! 💕
Johanna haha yay!!!! I love them all, you’ll have to let me know if you ever get around to reading any of them 🤩
I loved Sundown Motel. Also loved Lock Every Door and Home Before Dark by Riley Sager. Going to read Imaginary Friend, it sound interesting
I LOVED The Southern Book Clubs Guide to Slaying Vampires...I suggest ready Horrorstor by Grady as well, enjoy!!
I’ve seen Horrorstor around and it looks awesome! Definitely want to pick that one up!
Horrorstor is great, and as a local to the area it was fantastic. 😄
Two recommendations:
The Tommyknockers By: Stephen King
Intensity By: Dean Koontz
My favs ❤❤❤
*Southern Guide to Slaying Vampires* has just been borrowed and I should be getting to it in the next couple of days & *Sundown Motel* is on hold. I have been interested in reading *The Girl with Dragon Tattoo* trilogy since LOVING Rooney Mara as Lisbeth in the film adaptation. *The Shinning & Gone Girl* are two of my favorites too!
Yay!!! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on those!! 🤩
The Shinning, No Exit, Eyeshot, Carrie, The Chain, The Troop, The Firm .
The Troop! ❤️
Loved Behind Closed Doors
Just yesterday I read my first horror book: It by Stephen King and I LOVED IT!
It’s awesome! I don’t really intend to read a lot of horror books, because I’m a scared cat, but this one was worth it. Really. I really really loved it. For me, it was a very good choice to start reading Stephen King and I highly recommend.
I’ve already chose the next one: 11/22/63.
No, by Ray Bradbury, I only read Fahrenheit 451, but I loved and want to read more.
See my previous recommendations.
Ahh I hope you love those two! I have read Riley Sager’s first two books, and I’m sooo excited to read lock every door and home after dark soon! 🤩
I loved The Shining, movie doesn’t do the justice
The Millennium Trilogy is one of my all time favs and no one talks about it. So so so good. Those books made me love mystery books.
There are two more trilogies in this series, written by other authors. Not quite up to Stieg Larsson's quality - but if you want more of these amazing characters ....
I read them both. You’re right. Not quite the same but I still enjoyed them.
I truly enjoyed the Sun Down Motel. The twist at the end was interesting, for sure, but I rated similar to you. It was a bit of a step outside of what I usually read, but I'm happy I took that step and opened that door.

Oh absolutely need to read Carrie! I've enjoyed all the King books I've read so far, can't wait to get to it! I'll have to bump it up on the TBR since you enjoyed it!
I look forward to seeing what you think of North's books. :) I really need to read The Shadows next!
I love how you explain it without saying too much about the story. Some here in yt says too much and I feel like they are spoilers
I have just finished The Whisper Man. I really enjoyed it. I thought it was going to take a supernatural turn at one point too. Definitely going to read his next book.
Stu I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I also really need to read The Shadows soon!
The southern book clubs guide to slaying vampires sounds great ;-) going to pick it up definitely. For spooky season ill be picking up Sleeping Beauties by Stephan and Owen King. I have already read The Shining its one of my favorite Stephan King books of all time.

The trilogy she talks about in this video is the "Millennium" trilogy by Steig Larsson :)
Your Stephen king book from Barnes and noble is so cool 😻
An older bunch, the Necroscope series by Brian Lumley.
This is the first time I’ve seen someone else say their favorite book was Imaginary Friend!!! So amazing
It's so incredible :D
You might also like the Nevada Barr (Anna Pigeon series but more particular the book Flashback, great mystery and dual timelines).
New subscriber!!!! My favorite books are psychological thriller, horror, suspenseful! The scarier the better!!!!
I’m reading The Shinning now for the first time! The Last Mrs. Parrish will be my next book to read! Thanks!

Ana D I’m so glad you loved all of those as well!!! It sounds like we have very similar tastes in thrillers haha 😄
Really loved the hook for" behind her eyes " Thanks for Recommending
Read Behind Closed Doors in two days. One of the greatest and most sadistic villains ever and the ending is brilliant. Started The Whisper Man this morning and so far feeling dread of what is coming up - very well written.

Omg Behind Closed Doors is soooo good... Gone Girl is the book that introduced me to bookstagram... great choices... great video as usual 😊
The Book Geek I’m so glad you loved behind closed doors as well!!! What a wild ride that book is! 🤯 thank you for watching!! ❤️
Amber Reid haha that’s the complaint I see for it the most for sure! It’s totally understandable!
Wow. Great job and so much fun to watch. You have something special.
I love this since I have been wanting to read more thrillers/horror!!! Imaginary Friend and Whisper Man are on my TBR for October and I really want to get the Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires.
EEEEP! I'm so nervous for imaginary friend, but I think you're going to LOVE KATE!! She's such an awesome book mom!!! You'll have to keep me updated!
@@JessieMaeBooks I definitely have high hopes!
Thank you for your reviews!!
Yay! I'm reading The Shining next month! :D
I've been looking for something super creepy/scary so I had to watch this asap.
Oooh Alex North! I have his follow up on my shelf and I need to read it!
Oh man... Imaginary Friend again.... I *really* want to read that one!
Michael Knipp ahh I can’t wait to hear what you think of The Shining! It’s fantastic!
I felt the story of Imaginary friend dragged on. It was a great first half of setting everything up and the characters were great but I felt it just kept going and going when it could have ended and even gotten to the same point a lot sooner.
💔💔💔 breaking my heart!!! Haha that’s okay, I can definitely understand that criticism and I know a lot of other people feel the same way!
I was thinking of adding Behind her Eyes to my tbr. I have been hearing good things and its on my shelves. I also have Imaginary Friend based on your recommendations. Have not read it yet. Just finished The Other People. Its an easy quick read. I gave it 4 stars.
Behind Her Eyes is so wild 🤯 and Imaginary Friend!!! Ahhh I hope you love it!
I love Imaginary Friend! Couldn't put it down! I'll try some of the others on here too!
Aww yay I’m so glad to hear that! 🥳
I don't read many thrillers (I'm more into fantasy) but I've been meaning to change that, thank you for your recommendations : they all seem amazing!
Finally! Someone loved Behind Closed Doors! 🙌🏼 I had 5 people read it after me and they all loved it
Yesss this makes me so happy to hear!!
I absolutely LOVE Imaginary Friend!!! I hear a lot of bad things about it, so it's great to see someone else who loves it :)
I liked Imaginary Friend! The last 200 pages fell flat for me, but I did enjoy it enough to keep it on my shelf.
Frostbite Gaming yeah that’s where I see a lot of people start to not like it as much is the ending! But I’m glad you still liked it overall 😄
I have Imaginary Friend on my TBR for October! I have a feeling I’m going to love it 😍 I also added Behind Her Eyes and The Dry to my endless Goodreads TBR 😁
Ahhh my fingers are crossed! You’ll have to let me know what you think! ❤️
Love your energy! First video of yours that I've seen but immediately subscribed! 💙
I love the first one. I keep telling ppl they should read it but they never do and ppl are really missing out.
the girl with the dragon tattoo i loved. i did not like the girl who played with fire that much, thought it was corny. Havent read the 3rd yet
The shining was definitely a good one but my fave book by Mr. King has to be the stand bc I'm a sucker for post apocalyptic stuff
I just got that one not too long ago so now I’m even more excited to read it! 😄
Yesss!! Behind Closed Doors!! So bizarre!!!
And I really want to read Imaginary Friend. I'm hoping I'll love it as much as you. So you would take IF over WoK?
The Library of Allenxandria oh my goodness it’s so hard to pick between the two because they are so different haha can I just pick both? 😂
Omg awwwww! Thank you for the shout out.. you're awesome! ❤❤❤❤
Your channel is fantastic, absolutely love watching your videos!
@@JessieMaeBooks thank you so much. You're so sweet
Just got my Stephen King 3 books Barnes and Nobles exclusive book!!! Its so gorgeous, I'm excited!!! 👏🏽
Yay!!! It’s such a beautiful edition!
@@JessieMaeBooks it is. I'm almost finished with Carrie! 😀
omg jessie your hair looks so good in this i-
Aw thank you so much!!
Bedtime Bookworm oh I’m sooo in the minority for imaginary friend haha I definitely understand the criticisms but omg, it’s my favorite of all time ❤️
So ready to start Behind Closed Doors later this week. I loved the girl with the dragon tattoo series!!!
Abby Salter I can’t wait to hear what you think of it!!
The dry bt Neal ? Is a great book also
I've definitely heard that Behind Her Eyes is a love/hate book.
Wow yay!! It sounds like we have such similar tastes!! I really need to read Salem’s Lot soon! 😍❤️
You need to read Doctor Sleep by Stephen King. Its the sequel to the Shining and I absolutely loved it
Ashlie Millard omg yes I really do need to read it!! 😱
The last mrs parrish is amazing!
Great video! Thank u so much but would h hav a particular order for these? From ur most loved to the least?
First off, I Love You! You remind me of myself so much! We are sweet and bubbly but love those thrillers!
Second, you need to read "Desperation" by Stephen King. It is my ALL TIME FAVORITE. By him and is such an AMAZING story with so many thrills. You long for light throughout the whole book and rarely find it.
Charlotte Slovacek aww thank you!!! ❤️ oh I’m totally adding to my TBR!! Thank you for the recommendation!
The Millennium Trilogy (Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) is one of my book series that I supah love! 💞💞💞🐲
Lisbeth Salander is fierce! 💞
I also recommend legal thrillers like A Time to Kill by John Grisham. 😊
You can also try The Firm by John Grisham.
I’ll definitely add that to my list!! Thanks for the recommendation!! 😄
I loved Imaginary friend! Just finished it and agree with everything you said😀
Yay!!! That makes me so happy!
I just borrowed The last Mrs Parrish, I'll give it a go
