The record currently stands at 55.548 kilometres, set by Daniel Bigham (GBR) in August 2022. Filippo Ganna will attempt to break the record in the same location as Bigham, at the Tissot Velodrome in Grenchen, Switzerland.

@@nicoladc89Wiggins would very likely still have it if he had better air or a bike and aeobars meeting new UCI rules. Both together? He may have had the record by so much that most of these attempts would have happened.
Thank you SO MUCH to the announcer who corrected the erroneous statement by the previous announcer who gave credit to Boardman, correctly honoring Graeme Obree for his innovation and contribution to cycling. This cyclist was able to beat the current record with a cycling position that Obree invented. Yet of course Obree was ostracized and his performances were cancelled by the biking establishment and he was pushed mentally to a suicide attempt for his forward thinking.

Grandissimo cronoman! Non mi è chiaro però come mai è valido il record con questa bici e sono stati invece cancellati i record precedenti di Moser, Indurain ecc ecc
l'UCI ha prima cancellato tutti i record ottenuti con bici non utilizzabili per gare UCI su strada (quindi anche quello di Moser), poi ha riammesso le bici valide per le gare UCI su pista. Per logica il record di Moser e quello di Rominger dovrebbero essere riammessi, ma non quelli di Obree, Indurain e Boardman. La bici di Ganna è regolamentare per gare su pista.
L'UCI cancellò tutti i record dell'ora ottenuti con bici non da strada, creando però un altro record "la miglior prestazione umana sull'ora" categoria in cui rimangono i record di Moser, Indurain ecc...
Nel 2014 l'UCI ha tirato una riga sul passato creando quello che viene definito il record dell'ora unificato e ripartendo da zero ammettendo bici da pista con le appendici da triathlon.
Fino all'altro ieri rimaneva comunque il record della migliore prestazione umana sull'ora che Ganna ha battuto. Da adesso esiste un solo record che potrà essere battuto solo con queste regole.
