Kyosho built out the box to work ...Tamiya built out the box and needs to be upgraded .....great project Glenn looking forward to seeing it in white 😎💪👊👌🔥🔥🔥🔥
Been telling my Tamiya buddies for years to have a go at building a Kyosho. They never believed when I said it's next level in build and build experience. Many of them now know :)
Is it pathetic that a 50-year-old guy like me gets more excited about these things and than my kids? That has to be one of the most well engineered cars I have seen you put together. It’s just pure awesomeness
@@RCLegends2022 do you think Tamiya rest on their laurels a bit I think they would make more money just doing rere’s as there are so many collectors out there 😀
Glenn enjoyed building that gearbox so much...he did it twice! What great value for money those Kyosho kits are, what with their materials and attention to details like those extra tools. Looking forward to following this build.
Omg you made me laugh Glenn! When you said you were a bell that's the in word @ work at the moment! A classic blast from the past for us 🏴 lads! Great kit and build by the way! 👍
Always nice to see a (vintage) kyosho kit being put together. I've rebuilt a few of their cars, Optima, Mid series, Lazer, Ultima, and while not perfect, they were usually of a high standard of engineering.
I gotta say , kyosho were first class kit makers. They made sure you had lots of choices and included tools and adapters , spares, everything and more that you could imagine. They're just unmatched in the kit experience and designs. This brought back a lot of old memories of building my favourite kits in the day
Enjoyed watching that video, what I liked about the kit is that you use all the parts out of each bag, any spares are in a separate bag. So if you are left with a washer or screw, you know something is amiss. As I've already mentioned before, I have now threadlocked the spur gear post and pinion grub screw, both had become loose, after being tightened.
Well, when one marvels at the engineering and craftsmanship of a creation. A little part can be over looked. Your fine you got it. I've said before and again. The Javelin is a work of art. Makes me want one. EXCELLENT.
The Javelin has to be one of the best looking buggies ever made 😎👍 (IMHO). I also fitted a white cage to mine, and it totally transformed the buggy. They're a joy to build and run pretty well too. Looking forward to seeing what you do with this build. All the best. 👍
I love my Jav. I have all the upgrades. The only thing I will say is that it is heavy. Kyosho really does mean quality. The rere shocks are done really well. To be fair as you said Kyosho really do the reres properly by making them able to take modern motors!
HAHAHA. I kept trying to wipe the specs off my screen. Till I realized it was on the work mat when you moved your hand over it. THE JAVELIN was my second RC kit when I was a kid. Ever since Tamia came out with the Legend series, I’ve been trying to get all the car I had back in the day. Same with the Kyosho kits. So far I’ve picked up JAVELIN, OPTIMA and a FANTOM. Also a FROG,HORNET and a GRASSHOPPER. Can’t wait for the rest of the videos
Kyosho quality 👍, it's crazy to think that we're all used to other brands and how they offer their kits. But after seeing Kyosho's kits something becomes clear.. quality craftsmanship and amazing attention to detail puts them in number one spot for me, and I've not even had the pleasure of building one🤔😁🤣. Chain drive is the way I also would of gone. Should look stunning when finished Glenn👍👊
I was thinking about buying a kyosho rc car I've built loads of tamiya kits but the javelin looks on another level the parts look amazing and the engineering that's put into the kit is brilliant I'm sorely tempted to get a kyosho kit to see how they go together myself cheers fir another fantastic video and stay safe out there
Top quality indeed mate! I have had a few Hotshots over the years but never built one from new but recently built a new one from scratch and it was an absolute joy to build and what a quality thing the Hotshot is for something designed for the year 1985 and the original Optima was very special in design too and even more so and you would never think its from the same year! it was way ahead of its time really! The Javelin was a great follow up and agree Glenn the white cage will look absolutely awesome!!! I love the chain drive too so cool and unique! So many classic 4wd buggies were born from back in the day and planted the seed to create so many famous series and other legendary buggies in the RC timelime! Big thanks has to go out to legendary buggies like the Hotshot, Optima, Cat , Mustang, Avante for all these buggies did for the hobby! these are probably the most famous 4wd buggies to me anyway! Others will have a different view and list and that's cool we all have different opinions that's a healthy thing in this hobby! Great vid again Glenn l am really looking forward to seeing how your Javelin turns out l bet its going to look absolutely epic buddy! Cheers James.
How good is the Kyosho Optima series. The original Optima was my first r/c so this video of you having fun with this rere Jav really speaks to me. Great to see Glenn.
That’s a piece of art Glenn. Never looked at kyoshos in the past but now I’m sitting up and definitely going to put a few on my wish list. Looking forward to seeing more best wishes and take care
Great build my friend. I love that you kept it chain drive. That’s one of the coolest features of old school and some new school Kyosho vehicles. I love listening to the chain noise on my usa-1.. it’s all part of the Kyosho experience 😁 have a happy Sunday Fun Day Glenn.
Wow I like the look of this kit. Something about the chain drive really appeals to me as a build. Never built a Kyosho but this looks fantastic. Great video Glenn.
Having built quite a few Tamiya cars, including the Egress, I was amazed at the engineering produced by Kyosho when I built the Tomahawk. I have an Optima mid on order, I can't wait for it to (eventually) turn up.
When I first started going to the track with my Blackfoot as a kid. When I saw that I wanted that Car to be my first. I never got it. I ended up getting a RC 10.
I thought the same thing when I first built my optima mid . Amazing engineering and quality. I later sold it to my cousin , who raced it on carpet tracks in the winter and dirt in the summer . He used to break the dog bone drive shafts like mad on the carpet tracks. Just too much traction and they didn't hold up very well when we were running modified motors .
Well done 👍 definitely a nice classic that Kyosho Javelin. I did notice the cover for the motor, and the wing mount is the same on the Ultima. I have an Ultima and just noticed how similar the gearboxes are too, that being a 2wd have similar parts. Also the top section that mounts on the chassis of the Ultima has way more screws and fidelity to mount on the car. But the quality of these cars, are worth every penny!! 😉
Hey Glenn, really enjoyed watching that build. Had to smile when you forgot the gear. I forgot to put the pin in spear gear on my TT02 build and was wondering for ages why I had no drive😳. Looking forward to the next stage its looking so good. And we still have the Optima to come.
Awesome car, looks very good in mint green as well, but the matte white is my favorite 😊. Just saw that mciracing has added repro tires for Team associated gold tub car and Tamiya Porsche 959, hopefully they will add Ninja tires for Keith in the near future 😎.
G'day Glenn wow I'm going to get one after watching you build yours looks so nice to build. And lol I struggle with tiny parts as well getting old mate. Great video mate 👍
Hi Glenn, love the Java great buggy and the RERE is great to run pain to clean afterwards. I was screaming at the screen when you showed the chassis with the right hand rail on upside down. Really common mistake to make . I have never been a fan of the small bumper half the look of theJava is the big wide front bumper.
What a beautiful build coming along Glenn, and yes Kyosho is definitely next level and then some, i used the Chain for the first time in the Kyosho Fantom build and was impressed at how good it actually works, real nice and smooth considering early 80's tech if not late 70's and the only ways i would use the belt in my Javelin build is if i went with a brush-less setup as i think thats what they included it for but in saying that i have a pretty hot(for me) brushed motor on 2S in the 1:12 Fantom and that seems to handle (chain) it quite well but i would like this particular build to go like stink without breakage so will be doing some research there for brushed to brushless ,but very interested to see how swell yours comes up and no doubt it will be just that thanks for sharing some vital hints and tips too awesome looking build so far my friend cheers :-))
@@RCLegends2022 Mate I love your vids and I'm loving the builds approach. Couldn't have chosen a better kit in my opinion. The chassis design of the javelin is awesome. Looking forward to seeing your take on the finish article.
About the bevel gears, the diff housings are designed for 4 gears. I ordered spare bevels and shafts but it requires grinding flat spots in the middle of the shafts and I'm scared of fucking it up so haven't tried it yet. But I'm pretty sure it can be done. Is it needed? Well, I can't find anything about people stripping the diff gears, so... Anyway, I love my Javelin and been hunting a white cage since the day I ordered the car, unfortunately out of stock everywhere.
Kyosho has a lot of metal parts in their kits which I like. You do have to be careful when building the kits because the instructions are not the best. It is easy to miss something when building the kit. I do not like the bottom loading shocks. I built the Ultima and purchased some Kyosho top loading shocks for it. However, I ended up sticking with the bottom loading shocks. They work okay. Thoughts?
Cheers Matt, great video. Is a pinnion gear included in the kit? I have an 14x2 Orion motor planned for my build and would like to know if a have to source a pinnion.
Hey Glenn, great video as always dude. I am eyeing up the Javelin at the moment but I am also considering the VQS. Any thoughts on which you would get first and why? Cheers Craig
Excellent build. That thing looks like a tank. Super engineered. I have a Kyosho purchase in mind but I am going to wait until you build the Turbo Optima and then I make my decision. Thanks for the video! 👍

I have only one car with chain drive it’s my murui samurai to tell you the truth it’s awfully slow the price difference between kyosho and tamiya is quite a lot so you would expect a good quality item from kyosho
nice car but didnt find the quality any better than tamiya. didnt like the way the shocks where built, and the alloy parts where just pressed with burred edges. the threads in the alloy woukd strip easy if not carefull as well.
