I just thought recently that Powerhouse Animation wouldn’t be a bad choice for a Bionicle series. Here’s the thing though, the studio that animated the show Puffin Rock would have a great art style to work with for a Bionicle Netflix Animated Series as well! It’s perfect in my opinion!
Knowing Powerhouse Animation, an animation studio I’ve heard about for a while now, I have an idea. Powerhouse animation has done Blood of Zeus as well as Masters of the Universe Revelation! They also did work on Avatar the Last Airbender, which also features the concept of bending elements (like the Toa) lol. Powerhouse has an anime influenced style that I think can help with this whole “make Bionicle into an anime” work!
Biggest issue is art direction/visual style. while Bionicle has had really appealing illustrated interpretations, most are not animation/movement friendly. Trying to put a 02/03 comic in motion while maintaining consistent illustration quality is a huge undertaking compared to trying to do that for say designs from DragonBall. MMOG is the only proven exception (2015 didn’t work, fell flat), and that’s stylistically borders on cel shading. If you push towards more anime design, you risk alienation and division; a lot of Bionicle fans don’t like weeb stuff. If it has handled more like Samuri Jack, something that has a distinctly non anime style (also lacks black outlines and is action focused) that brings in anime influence, it could work. Alternatively, full CGI has proven to be accepted by audiences for fans; even when they are being critical of the story
I've never been able to feel interested in Ninjago for some reason. I thought it was due to the fact that I'm not super interested in classic bricks and minifigures in general. And yet the anime style of Monkey Kid is one of the things that made me interested the line, as well as the portrayal of some characters, and I don't even watch anime. So yeah, whatever didn't work with Ninjago's presentation and animation for me worked with Monkey Kid. I think Bionicle in anime style would be perfect. Not everyone would love it, but I think it would be a lot more popular.
id say arguable the first thing I would do is write a manga and base the anime heavily off of it. That could help later theoretically if we got to the got to the 2008 and 2009s story arcs. Show off note I would look at are dr stone and mobile suit gundam the 08th ms team for the first 3 arcs. For the Metru nui stuff which in itself could be divided into 2 arcs, id look into jojo or even the hunter x hunter yorknew city arc. Give it that constant feel of the show is evolving to be gradually darker. Then the ignition trilogy defiantly go full chimera ant arc from hunter x hunter. Other design choices I can see being drawn from the pool could be stuff like xenoblade. While not technically an "anime" its a jrpg which just the video gamer version of an anime. Also the most important part of any anime is the theme song. Id chose to have something done by Galneryus. there a Japanese power metal band and they even did the opening to hunter x hunter. Only watched hunter x hunter thanks to them. Glad I did. Id also throw in mecha influence for obvious reasons.
I always thought of How many episodes would an Arc of Bionicle would be (like I think 2001 could go for 20 Episodes or 36 if we wanna flesh out the world & the Bohrok saga could be 35 episodes + 25 more for the Nuva & Kal arcs & 30 for Pre MOL & an expanded MOL arc)
Lego was on the verge of bankruptcy when bionicle was first released. But the lore I think still holds up. The problem is is what studio would care to bring back a franchise that ended in 2010 with a failed reboot in 2015
I'm positive it at least has something to do with the colossal failure of Galidor. The total flop of that line was what helped nearly bankrupt LEGO in the early 2000s, and the fact that Galidor received a TV show on top of that probably left LEGO very weary about trying to give Bionicle the same treatment with a TV series. While that apprehension is understandable, I see that as a huge blunder for Bionicle in the long run. An animated series would have been the perfect way to keep kids in tune with the toyline's ever-increasing lore and complexity.
Um. The CG OVAs. That chronicle the struggle of Mata Nui and the Toa that made Roodaka more seductive than usual. That was made in the age of CG Anime. That series.
I want a CGI animated series personally, with 1 hour long episodes. High budget. All story that’s ever been written. Just one medium. Even if 2D animated would be awesome too. It would need to follow canonical information, though, like the fact that they DO have organic tissue too, but it needs to mesh that with set accuracy as much as possible. No mask mouths too. Just put the emotions in the eyes. Or do a hole in the mask I guess and use the actual face’s mouth instead….
I don't know about anime necessarily, but an animated Bionicle show could be pretty awesome, especially if it was aimed at the original grown up Bionicle fanbase and not at kids (not that it can't be friendly to kids, but I don't want a cheesy-ass cartoon). Honestly if it had a similar animation/art style to Legends of Vox Machina, that would be amazing.
@@austingray6885 Here’s some ideas I have: Tahu:Greg Eagles, Kopaka: Kevin Conroy, Lewa: Nolan North, Gali: Susan Eisenberg, Onua: Fred Tatasciore, Pohatu: Patrick Seitz, Takanuva: Rob Paulsen, and Makuta (Teridax): Kevin Micheal Richardson!
A 2D animated show would be great for Bionicle! The work done by Peri and Tohkann is incredible. I have to also mention Canister Wasteland 1 & 2, which really demonstrate the potential of anime-like action scenes
I myself do wonder, whether if such a Bionicle Anime really were possible, I'd try imagining it somewhat bearing enhanced Toy-Accurate Character Models (Toa most of all) with Creative Capers-styled faces on only the masks, such as Eyebrows and toy-accurate mouths (Or more electronic on some characters.) When I say 'Enhanced' I'd mean add some organic elements in the Toy-accurate parts, such as holes and gaps to make 'Biomechanical' more plausible in my case... I imagine them similar in concept to Mecha Anime, like the Transformers ones from 80s and early 2000s... Speculative Theory anyway...
can you imagine mata nui great spirit robot can crush millions of titans in attack on titan but that mean the great spirit robot can easily destroy all landscapes and human world
I really love the idea for an anime of Bionicle, in fact in my idea for a bionicle anime, they were humans who lost their memories, and gain armor, masks, and powers becoming Toa. However, their old friends from there past enters the same world where they arrived and help them in anyway they can. What do you think?
A 2D animated Bionicle series sounds like an excellent idea! I can only imagine what the artstyle and the story could be like!

Samurai jack is a great example.

I've thought for a long time that BIONICLE would work perfectly as an anime. You hit the nail on the head for every point I thought of.

Imagine if Studio Trigger, the same anime studio behind SSSS Gridman and SSSS Dynazenon did a Bionicle anime...
I want that
Bionicle la Bionicle

Same here! Fantastic possibilities for those things!
You know it's pretty weird there wasn't a Bionicle animated series in general. Like, you'd think there'd at least be a cartoon series of some kind.
I thought the same thing, my dude!
Lego was on the verge of bankruptcy when bionicle was first released. But the lore I think still holds up. The problem is is what studio would care to bring back a franchise that ended in 2010 with a failed reboot in 2015

A well done series accurate to the original story would bring new fans in I think

This was when, exactly? I have zero idea what you're talking about.

I actually like the sound of that. I'm a fan of BIONICLE
2001 - 2010 mostly. 2015 are amateurs.
lol I was a voice actor in the Rebirth series i completely forgot about this
Very unique and interesting content and takes! Keep it up! :)
Bionicle in anime be like :
Makuta: do you wanna have bad time, Takua?
Takua: "Puts on the Mask of light" I HA-AVE THE PO-O-OWE-E-E-ER
Yeah, wish we have more 2D animations for G1 Bionicle to flesh out the story even more.
You and I are on the same boat 🚤! Perhaps the boat on its way to Mata Nui, if you catch my drift 😉
If bionicle was an anime? Then who is best toa?
"TRIAL BY FIRE" and "WATER PRESSURE" were NOT offical animations from the game?!?!
Right?
I want to make this a reality, no joke.

mnog technically always has been
2D animation and Anime have been very innovative over the years, who says it can't be done right with Bionicle?
Bionicle would make a kickass anime adaptation, even if it was just a miniseries
@@austingray6885 Yeah! And boy don’t I have a great cast set in mind for the characters! The Toa especially!
@@matthewreynoso6904 who would you cast for their voices?

Studio Mappa gotta be the ones do the animation. They did Chainsaw Man

As long as they weren’t humanised. So not like Chronicles’ style.
can you imagine mata nui great spirit robot can crush millions of titans in attack on titan but that mean the great spirit robot can easily destroy all landscapes and human world
You forget how insane power levels can be in anime. Even the Great Spirit Robot would get smacked around by the likes of SUPER GALAXY GURREN LAGANN
Toa would be greatest characters in characters in genshin

No just keep the original story
The idea of introducing real humans into the Bionicle world makes my skin crawl. I agree with Austin, let's keep their world separate from our own.
Ohh no
No what have you done. I hate anime and I love bionicle.
Better get used to it man, all this nerd shit occupies the same camp. lol
