  • Today I’m joined by Daniel Ek - a man you might never have heard of but whose business you’ve almost certainly used. Daniel is the co-founder and CEO of Spotify, and he ‘s taken the company from an struggling start-up to industry giant. And, Spotify has just launched a new Audiobook platform - so excited about it. In the episode we talk about Audiobooks on Spotify, and how giving literally hundreds of millions of people one-click free access to basically every audiobook in the world is going to change the industry for authors, publishers and of course, readers and listeners. Daniel’s approach to entrepreneurship and building businesses - Daniel shares his frameworks for how entrepreneurs can think about adding value, the balance between thinking and action, and the 3 different types of advantage that different businesses can have, in terms of informational, analytical and behavioural advantages. And we talk also about Daniel’s personal productivity - as a ridiculously busy CEO of a huge public company worth tens of billions of dollars, how does he think about time management, focus, and work-life balance as it relates to balancing the running of his companies with being a father and a husband. Enjoy!

Hey Ali, I love this podcast but I think when having entrepreneurs/CEOs on in my opinion, it would be more interesting to hear more about their journeys. Like Daniel mentioned he wanted to quit spotify at times - would have been interesting explore more about this from him.

Great insights, unique perspective and very interesting to see a "minimalist" and focused approach from someone who I would have thought was spread very thin

Shit only men can say, 1 weekend with each chid? Who helps them with homework? Who buys their clothes? Who thinks and gets the birthday presents for their friends? Who cooks? Who handles their struggles emotionally?
Some things can be delegated with money (i f you have it), many is emotional labour that will rely on their mom.
    STEP UP.
Having a child is caring for them, not using it as a high value leisure.

LMAO same thing could be said to women yet feminists encourage women to be the exact kind of person that you are questioning.

Women tend to use more head motion, facial expressions, and voice inflections to show engagement in conversation. Men tend to talk with their hands more🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀

This was a disappointing puff piece. The moment you accept a paid trip like that you lose the ability to be independently critical. Spotify and the 3 big labels have screwed creators in the music space, and while its great that there might be more competition in audiobooks, I doubt this will be to the creators benefit. This was an opportunity to analyse what was wrong with audible and what they might do differently to benefit creators. Unfortunately the cycle of spotify enshitification is well underway ...
