'SHONDO!': A Hebrew Word Meaning 'FOOLISH CHRISTIANS' [well, not really]

  • What does 'shondo' mean? Contrary to popular belief amongst American Christians, "SHONDO!" is NOT from a Hebrew word meaning "God, turn it around!" Several experts in Hebrew have confirmed for me there is NO SUCH HEBREW WORD -- formal or slang. In fact, before THIS WAS MADE UP a few years ago, there is NO EVIDENCE any such word with that meaning existed in ANY language.

    @SheLovesG0D, the pastor in the video WAS NOT kidding. There was a guest speaker at his church earlier who preached on that word "shondo", and he said it meant "God is turning it around."
    This word is NOT poking fun at speaking in tongues, but it is actually being said to be a legitimate Hebrew slang word.

    @EvelynPrather, I used CAMTASIA STUDIO 7 software. I used a featured called "full motion capture", where it records everything I do on the screen as well as what I speak into my microphone.

    Also…urban dictionary says this-
    Shondo
    Inner feeling about something. Many old time Christians say Sondo as a another word for the Holy Spirit within them.
    “i knew that child would be okay because I felt it in my shondo after prayer”

    When I was in the Word of Faith movement some 25 years ago, the favorite fake tongues word was "shandai". Everybody used that word whenever they were "speaking in tongues." This "shondo" word sounds like it is a descendant of that word.

    @kevseb66, there are just as many foolish things as occurring all across racial and theological lines. It is a MISTAKE to believe that the majority of this kind of ignorance is concentrated in charismatic/pentecostal circles.
    And as for "Black Christians" taking stuff and running with it, in the video beginning at 2:27 you see a blog posting on 'shondo'. That blog is by a WHITE WOMAN, and I put that in the video ON PURPOSE to show this issue was not limited to Black people.

    @BlessedPrincess81 what is the English translation of the Hebrew word, "shondo" ?
    Answers:
    My native tongue is Hebrew and there's no word in Hebrew "Shondo"...
    (There is)...
    "shanda" is not Hebrew, it's Yiddish - an altogther different language spoken by some Jews.
    When someone says, "It's a shanda," (s)he means, "It's a shame."

    I think as long as you have exciting "hype" music playing, you can say anything and people will start jumping.
    In fact I most people don't even know who Meshach, Shadrach , and Abednego are but get on a church stage, followed with a band that plays everytime you pause then scream into the mic
    NEEESHAK (insert music here)
    SHADERACK(insert music here)
    AND ABINDIGO! then the church goes crazy

    @NotYourTypicalNegro Nonsense is not a matter of race...I believe the whole Bible and Book of Acts, and the Azusa Street Revival, which happened to be a Negro man, whom God richly blessed and used. The question is, Do we follow Jesus, or do we follow weird manisfestations, excitations and human beings? We have to each read our Bibles, have the Holy Spirit and mature so that we may test the spirits and discern good from evil.

    Great video, but some of these viewer comments are harsh. We trust schools to teach our children. We trust the government to ensure our best interests. We trust our law enforcement to protect and serve. They all fail us at times. Does that make us dumb and stupid? It's true that Christians need to be educated, read the Word themselves, and discern - but it is a work in progress and we have a LONG way to go. Let's encourage our brothers and sisters - name calling isn't effective.

    @Notyourtypicalnegro....i think it's great that you are investigating and challenging people to do research and not just take what is given to them. There is a pastor called G. Craig Lewis from exministries who has actually been challenging Christians to research things by calling certain ministers, movements out etc. He's been doing it over probably 10 years now. You should check him out.

    @everybody watching and laughing! if you studied the bible like you study some of the other things you study you'd know that tongues is not just hebrew! thats why it called tongue(S). it can come form literally millions of languages some that dont even exist any more! God is able to do what He wants to do and will have you speaking in a language no one understands or can interpret but Him! because thats who youre supposed to be talking to in the first place!

    @1killacomic, apparently you do not listen very well:
    1) The issue is that certain preachers are claiming that the word "shondo" is Hebrew, when there is NO EVIDENCE that this word ever existed in Hebrew with the meaning they claim.
    2) As for your earlier comment about be supposedly showing how "Black Christians" were "gullible", if you paid attention to the video, you'd see the blog I displayed at 2:30 explaining "shondo" was by a WHITE WOMAN.
    smh... I have no further comment.

  • @NotYourTypicalNegro
    @NotYourTypicalNegro  13 років тому

    @1killacomic:
    1) I'm not sure what the skin color of a Hebrew or a Christian has to do with anything. When we all stand before The Most High in judgment, such a matter will not be under consideration.
    2) As for your final question, the scriptures teach that EVERYONE will be held accountable for his own sins.
    Please explain exactly the point you are trying to make, because I'm still not getting it.

  • @NotYourTypicalNegro
    @NotYourTypicalNegro  13 років тому

    @kevseb66, I'm not really sure there's adequate evidence to support what you're claiming. And if you look at the highlights of charismatic/pentecostal aberrant teaching and phenomena, they have almost exclusively been first introduced or initially embraced by White Americans.

    Amen; thanks for doing research on this. Actually, the use of this word in churches did originate with the so-called tongue-speaking that many of them do. As you said, it is not Hebrew for "God's going to turn it around or complete turnaround". Actually, as some other commenters below have indicated that it means "penis" in a Zimbabwean language (Shona). The Holy Spirit would not inspire someone to be speaking under His Spirit about a "penis". It is said how people fall for stuff like this!

    I mostly heard Christians in the say this word "Shanda". That is not a Hebrew word. It is Yiddish another language spoken by some Jews. The word "Shanda" means "a shame or pity". I know that they didn't do any research or Bible studying to know the meaning. Most Christians haven't read anything other than the scriptures that their leaders instructs them to. I have read from Genesis to Revelations. It took me over a year to finish. That is a book you can never forget once read. Doesn't matter if you are religious or not. I just don't like to people being lead wrongfully. It is better to read the entire Holy Bible as being a Christian. No matter how long it takes you. Don't worry about how everyone else is reading it. Do research on the history of the Holy Bible. Especially, the King James version. I did this myself. I went to Brooklyn Tabernacle Bible Institution. I became certified by the State of New York, as a "Bible Study Teacher". I volunteered for my cousin who was a ordain Minister and his wife an Evangelist. I don't deal with churches. I have been told to leave churches, by many. By the leaders, they closed the door on me. They didn't like that I was different. I want people just to know the truth for themselves.That sharing truth is caring to me. I will never change. Thanks for you for sharing your research in this video. Blessings❤

    @christianpreachr My responce to this video reflects my observation as black human being. From that perspective, there is obvious "compartmentalization" that can't be ignored. The plain truth is a disproportionate number of BLACK charismatic persons are guilty of grabing something they heard somewhere & without any real thought or study, turn it into the phrase of the moment mess which often lacks proper spiritual & or scriptural validity.

It's a shanda that my son got arrested for drunk driving. IT'S A YIDDISH WORD. SHANDA NOT SHONDO. Shando is a not a word at least not in Hebrew or in Yiddish.

    I thought I heard Bishop Week's 2nd wife (I forgot her name not Juanita) say that word during one of her chants,LOL. Just the term "Hebrew slang" rubs me the wrong way, it says to me that the word "Shondo" is board and ambiguous and the TRUTH is; straight is the gate and narrow is the way! And for them to say that apart of the meaning means GOD should be red flag, because there were many gods so who are they talking about? And from my research The Most High had a name and it wasn't GOD.

    What I'm saying to you is, is where the term shondo, as it is being spelled has actually derived. it seems you want to know where it really came from. Not by the way of the Hebrew language or Hebrew slang, but by the presence of the Spirit of The Lord. The Bible says in all they getting, to get an understanding. I'm not bashing your findings as they happen to be correct. But we should not only acknowledge what is not, without acknowledging what is.......Shalom and God Bless!

    I'm sorry, but I don't understand what any of this means. The word "shondo" did NOT come from people speaking tongues. As I told you previously, people are saying this is a HEBREW WORD.
    However, I pointed out through my research there is no such Hebrew word. Which means either people are lying on purpose or they don't know what they're talking about. In either case, they should stop saying it because it doesn't mean anything.

    @kevseb66 There is only 1 church...any church that teaches Jesus Christ crucified is that church. There's no black or white christians, there are only saved people. Compartmentalizing like that is what stops of from being unified and taught the truth. The more we separate ourselves, the more we restrict teachings. Why? Because we label them and say their not for us. 1 God, 1 Messiah, 1 Church, 1 Faith
