Hey Mark a couple of questions for you. Is the trail marked through the slot canyon? Just wondering if it's easy to lose the trail and get lost while exploring? I noticed you were wearing a pretty full backpacking backpack but didn't camp on this hike. Were you planning to camp on trail and changed your mind? ~RVA~
The trail is not marked through the slot canyons, just leading up to it. You'll get lost while exploring it since its a grid of trails going through the canyons but in my opinion I found getting lost really fun because you find yourself exploring canyons you hadn't explored before while trying to find your way back. It's not a huge grid so you won't end up like a half mile from where you entered. Plus it is pretty hard to get out of the "grid" because of boulders and brush so you won't get truly lost. I had a full backpack on because I was getting my cardio/strength up for a two backpacking week trip I did this past summer, had no intention on spending the night. I didn't see any backpackers or campsites but there was a nice cabin village that we hiked by (I believe it's called the Raven Ridge Lodge or The Channels Retreat) that looked like a really nice place to stay the night.
I don’t have an exact address, but if you type in Hayters Gap, VA into Google Maps it should take you there. I was at the channels again a couple weekends ago and it directed me there just fine
Nicely done Mark! I've section-hike the AT from Springer Mtn to Caledonia State Park in PA. When we hiked the section near Marion, we stayed at Hungry Mother State Park. For some reason, I've not heard of this area. However, thanks to you, I now know and hope to visit it one day. God Bless!
Great video. We went there and filmed soon after you did. Amazing place.
Thank you!
Nice! I hope to visit one day.
It’s so awesome!

Hi! Saw your post on another site and linked to your video. Do you have the exact address of the 10 spot parking lot location?
