- How to smooth drywall popcorn texture and create a wood accent wall. My son's room needs to get done and it should've been done yesterday 😅. This video will be on how I got rid of the old popcorn texture in his room and created a smooth finish. We also added a geometric pattern to give his room a nice modern touch.

What do you think of the design?
Like it!! Don't want to be the one to dust it though.
Thank you!
Looks great. Surprised you only have 3k subs given the video and project quality
Why thank you! Like, share and sub helps with the algorithms 😁👍🏻
This turned out soo good! Sorry it took me a few days to check the video out! And WOW! Congrats on getting 15k views so quickly! I'd love to hear some tips if you have any for me
Hey man no need to apologize! Thanks for watching! Let me know if you any questions!
The room looks great so far! Learned a lot of tips we can use to finish up the van - especially tinting primer. Never thought of doing that!
It's a time saver! Learned it from my painters on a commercial project. They painted everything really quick with that method.
This was a straightforward video and it was neat to see your process and how it turned out
Thank you! I hoped you enjoyed it
That wall is so freaking cool, Bao! Great job!
Thanks Bruce! We just got him a rug and he's seem to love the room.
That project turned out so nice man!
Thanks buddy! I'm glad to have it done. Now on to another house project
Great video. Well produced. Wall looks fantastic. Mahalo for sharing!:) 🐒
Thanks so much for always watching man! I appreciate it!
Love this. I'm actually looking to do it on two sides of a room where it faces a busy street. Thinking of putting a sheet of MLV and 1/2 or 5/8 drywall for noise insulation. I saw yours was flush throughout but think the MLV and drywall would surround the window with enough clearance to put the trim on the existing drywall and not on top of the MLV/drywall. Do you think if the window surround trim isn't flush, it would look off?
I think it will work! I would really accentuate how deep the window trims in to make it stand out more. Maybe 1/2" step up from the trim to make it seem more intentional.
This is a great design! Pretty Dope!
Thanks man! Glad you liked it
Looks great man, I am sure your son is going to love it!
Thanks Nick! Hopefully so!
Thanks for sharing this man!!! Can’t wait to do my own!
Thanks man! Can't wait to see it!
Great video man!!! You make it look so easy
Thanks man! I appreciate it!
Love this build man!
Thanks my man!
I read all comments and your link section. I can’t see the name of this paint you used, can you please share the brand and color? Look awesome. Thanks brother. 👍🏽
Thank you! I used Agean Teal from Benjamin Moore
Awesome work Bao!
Thank you!
Only video that chose to smooth out wall seems like a longer process with same results if wall was left alone the caulking filler fills gaps?
Smoothing out the wall isn't a requirement. I chose to for aesthetic reasons.
Great video. How much did it cost you in materials overall?
I forgot the numbers but it was probably less than $200 including paint.
have you ever tried using one of those paint edger tools? they work pretty well and makes it so fast to paint straight edges :) love the vid. keep it up!
You know I actually always wanted to try it out. I'll have to do it next time. I always thought it was a gimmick but ill take your word for it!
Lololol. You know me! 🤣🤣🤣 I've had to use it on big mural projects, works pretty well. Don't lather the paint on too heavy and it should work perfectly
Hey Bao... Just curious what trim you purchased for this. I looked through your material list but didn't see it. I know you said that you bought primed boards but I was wondering if you could point me in the right direction. Thanks!
Thanks for the questions Joshua. Yes I used these type of trim. www.homedepot.com/p/Trim-Board-Primed-Finger-Joint-Common-1-in-x-2-in-x-8-ft-Actual-719-in-x-1-5-in-x-96-in-347154/202085978
Did you try to scrape the popcorn off with a putty knife? It seemed like you put a lot of effort to cover up the popcorn instead or removing it. We had luck scraping it off then sanding it. Very dusty but seemed like a better solution to keep the walls very flat with no rolls or mounds. Maybe try it next time.
It didn't take much time at all with this method. I could've gone quicker if I used quick set mud. I'll give scraping it off a try next time
@@DesignCraftWorkshop I got rid of popcorn on my ceiling by spraying it with water and scraping with a 14 in drywall knife, I didn't have floors at the time, so i just swept it off the subfloor. Very messy but it was much easier than 1 coat of mud, much less 2. Cheers. Wall looks great!
Thanks for the tip! I would imaging it being a shoulder work out?
Hey! Thanks for the amazingly detailed video. Could I ask what size of brad nail did you use to attach the wood accents to the dry wall? And also, is it okay if the woods aint nailed to a stud (I suppose it would be impossible to nail all of em to a stud!) my concern is the wood accents could end up being wobbly if they’re holding up to the drywall only.
I used an 18ga 2-inch brad nail for this. I would try to hit stud when you can. If not, shoot your nails at an angle and it should be fine. It's not the most secure, but it'll work.
Amazing! Thank you so much for the quick response! 🙂
@@Shekoufa no problem!
It turned out awesome man! Come out to CA and do my walls for me hahaha.
Lol one day man! Thank you!
Great video bro!
thank you Tyson!
Great video!!
Thank you!
Saw this on Reddit. R/DIY That is how I got here.
Sweet man!
What nail gun did you use for the accent wall?
18ga nails
More surfaces to dust! A painted geometric pattern would me more practical.
dust exists.
I want to do this so bad
Go for it!
You should protect the windows and make sure they are tempered glass.
