A brand new original song based around Husk, featuring originally created backing music, sound design, voice acted story and artwork.
This one is quite the departure from my previous song writing exercises, not only because of the genre this song is focused on, but due to the character choice being one of the hardest voices for me to imitate and expand upon. Husk is a character who has very little known about him in terms of actual canon, yet his potential as one of the hardest cases for the hotel to crack is very strong through how he conducts himself caring and feeling very little about his predicament and others around him.
The song itself is an attempt to capitalise on that potential, framed around the storytelling device of Charlie attempting to use her position as the hotel's manager to help Husk explain more of his situation and how he came to be under Alastor's employ. But Husk's answer is less in relevance to himself and more to act as a warning to her: that many others like him have already accepted that they were sent to Hell for a reason and that their issues aren't as simple as "behaving better" in order to earn their redemption.
To that end, having the incredible vocal talents of Cycoriot to play the role of Charlie in this song was a dream come true. Able to be a natural mimic towards a lot of the female cast of Hazbin through their own work as part of dubbing groups and being a fantastic artist in their own right, their aid in both singing and helping with the writing of these characters in the lyrics was such a treat to assemble and I look forward to showing you more of what we're making together.
And finally, a gigantic thank to the also immensely talented NinjaHaku21Art for providing two amazing pieces of artwork to use in the song. After seeing a lot of their brilliant merch designs for multiple fandoms and the fan pieces they had made based on my other original songs, I was very pleased to ask them to come aboard to help with creating the detailed art you can see here. A bit late but I had 2 theorys both on husker died and why he acts the way he does. As it’s known he is a Vietnam vet and well that war was brutal but there was kid fighters in that war. Maybe he well had to kill in self defense which effected him. He turned to drinking and gambling as a way to both cope and attempt to forget what he did but maybe that very gambling is what killed him in the end plus as a bat kinda thing you could maybe say he was a blood sucker or he viewed himself as a leech to loved ones and only brought them down with him not to mention he is oddly wholesome with how body was formed almost like a teddy bear plus is stated he is good with kids which is why the kid fighter tore him up further and why he feels like he is a husk of who he was

I love how husk isn't really talking about himself and his life but talks about why Charlie's dream that everyone can change for good will not happen, not because evil peoples can't change but because hell is full of broken beings, not necessarily evil, just broken with no hope to change because they won't ever try...This is something Alastor could never explain to charlie as she would not Believe it but husk is one of those broken souls and knows what he's talking about...Brilliant

It's also very textbook apathetic variety of depression. Regardless of the cause and past deeds, we have a fair number of tools in the therapists box handle it.
And yes, hopelessness in ones own ability to get better isn't uncommon or indicative of such actually being the case when put to the test.

Love the concept for this. At first it seemed like Husk was just giving his life story. Thought it was purely to dissuade Charlie from trying. But by the end, with the way he sings, it seems like he’s giving her an education on the type of people she’ll likely be dealing with. Love how at the end he even lets her know she’s got her heart in the right place and she’s probably right about some people. Just not him
Thats kinda Ironic. I think Husk missed one important fact (I know its no. Cannon Just reflecting). Charlie is a Hellborn. Husk Calls her "Kid" but she's like twice as Old as him. She probably saw more fucked up things than Husk Even have chance to See in his life. If someone who lives in hell for over two hundred years sees hope... You should try... Likely the moment he feels someone is getting closer to him he will run away, go gambling and drinking away, always running away.
Which means that his redemption would likely take extremely long time, but I mean, they are in hell, it is not like they don't have the time.

The crazy thing is that this song still fits even now that we know Husk was an Overlord before he became tied to Alastor. We don't know how he died, or who he was within the show (yet).

The biggest question I’ve got regarding Husk’s background after that revelation is this: why did Alastor spare him unlike the other overlords?

Ikr!!! They've done a different genre for every character and it fits so perfectly, not only that but they've nailed it every time. You can hear the passion and the care that goes into these songs.
I agree this is exactly the type of sound I'd expected from a character like husk, I also feel like he'd be the type to listen to Barns Courtney and "The Gambler" on repeat.

I like how Husk isn't wrong. "Tell me, how you gonna fix me?" and her answer is "Give me a chance". Don't get me wrong, her positivity is coming from the right place, but to someone older and more jaded, an answer like that is too wishy-washy to be taken seriously. It suggests she has no plan, just a desire to try. Good intentions, but the road to hell is paved with such acts.
Yes ... I'm getting the sense that Charlie not quite knowing what she's doing with very volatile people who have very volatile problems is part of the tension of the whole series. The pain caused for everyone when serious, complicated, and unstable situations are interrupted by someone who doesn't grasp these difficulties can be horrific.

This is the perfect Husk anthem even after watching the first 4 episodes of the series, everything fits him spot on and his tragic situation. 😭

The fact that he drowns himself in alcohol, gambling, let's other push himself around but then immediately and fiercely rejects an offer of redemption, not in a mean way, but in a tired way of a man that has done nothing but continue running away from his sorrows makes it clear that he is _far from_ hollow.
And far from being unable to gain redemption.
He is the type that will run away again and again and again, but every time he runs away from a thing that seems likely or has started to move his old heart, the running away will get harder and harder, he will need to drink and gamble more and more just to keep it out of his mind...
...until he will have to face a decision. To constantly feel as he is failing to run away or face his sorrows, the things tugging at his tired heart. And that's when you latch onto him and try to guide him to a path of redemption.
But even then, don't expect him not to run away once in a while. Just make it sure that no matter how often he runs away, you will always be there to find him again.
This is Hell, you have eternity to break his defenses. He is an old and tired soul, so the only thing you can do is to out patience his resistance.

Kind as the sentiment is, you’d get told he faced that decision a long time ago. Better be prepared to wait a while. Getting out of those situations often needs a helping hand, but in the end the choice only ever belongs to the one in the hole.
This song is awsome, it show how much of a cynical and disillusioned man Husker is but it also show that he is not beyond redemption, since he's rather nice with Charlie (which is more than you can say for a lot of the other sinners) and even cheer her up by saying that she is maybe right about someone. I really like the dynamic between those two and how Charlie believe in everyone and can make people like Angel or Husk be a little bit more empathic because even if Angel like to piss of Vaggie he is nicer to Charlie and don't wanna saddened her.
I believe that with their being a lil good in Husk does give him a chance to be redeemed but he'll be the hardest one. to redeem but kindness can bring people out of hell.

I’ve been thinking about why some demons keep their human name and others don’t. I think I figured out why and it comes from Sir Pentius getting mad at being called Edward. The demons who keep their name are people who know who they are, they never tried to be anyone different. The ones that changed their names are the ones distancing themselves from who they were as people, for one reason or another they hate who they were and their new name reflects something personal about them. Angel Dust is named after a drug, Husk is a tired man who’s jaded and hollow. He’s just a Husk of a man

A man who suffered a lot and believes to be far from redeemable and Not worthy to be loved. A truly tragic character. Hopefully he will learn in the Show he can be redeemed and worthy to be loved.

That's why the tragedy is necessary.
1. This sounds like a song that is very reminiscent of the old fallouts songs which already fits Husk as is because of the whole war veteran thing.
2. Charlie using Husk’s motif from ‘Smile Like You Mean It’ hits way harder than I was ready for, but I love it either way. I never thought motifs switching out like that would work so well.
Keep staying true to your work, it’s more noticeable that you might think.

That line HITS. You can associate it with a lot of characters and real life, raising a glass to a fate that's been accepted and downing it. Going through so much, down a twisting path of pain and suffering that you're too far gone to remember where it all started in the first place after enduring a lot
These hit different now the show is out, especially the interaction with husker and Alastor
As someone who used to work in a pediatric and adult psychological unit in a hospital, this song definitely resonates with me. Some of them wanted to get better, some were just there because their family or psychologist forced them to be there. It is so hard to get through to the later, and it takes a very long time (sometimes years), but the end result is always worth all the hard work. Thank you so much for creating this song! Not only is it a banger, but gives such a good message!

Oh my gosh I know! I liked the semi call back to Smile Like You Mean It as well! When Husk steps in during Al's song and goes "if you think you're getting out of this, big mistake" and in this, Charlie says "but if you think I'm giving up on you, big mistake." There's so much time, thought, and talent poured into each song, on top of the cannon and storyline in each, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

When I was first introduced to Husk, I genuinely liked him. He came off as a real devil-may-care kind of person. But, through this song, you find that Husk lives up to the namesake, albeit one that tells you about his past; he never gives any details, just the clues to piece together his life and state a clear message: there is nothing here to redeem. Yet, he was willing to lay it all out for someone who was willing to lend an ear and, in a way, it's more than an obligation; there is something in him that cares. Thank you for this song; it really touches my heart to know that there's more to the character than meets the eye.

This and 'Addict' really show how it can take as little as 5 minutes to add a ton of depth to a character. And make an audience connect with a character they didn't really have an opinion on. I love it.
Also, 'but I can't be fucked to lose my patience' always makes me chuckle for some reason. The delivery and how blunt it is just cracks me up.

This song really dug deep into a character we don't know much about the level of depth brought into this song was insane.
I did have a bit of a theory and why husk is the way he is. I have heard he was a Vietnam veteran so maybe he did something like kill civilians in the moment believing it was needed or justified but after the war he realized more than likely those people where innocent and began to drink and gamble to cope i have a grandfather who was in that war while he wasn’t boots on the ground he saw it 1st hand in friends
It's so lame, that you can see it was done by someone who never knew a gambler; either that or they're in denial of their own gambling demon. Either way it's unimpressive to those it matters to, and if it can't reach the TRUE target audience it sucks.

"I lost the ability to love years ago". There's a whole story behind that line, and this song really captures the tone and attitude behind that mystery. This song hits hard and dirty, like a bottle of cheap booze smashed onto a dusty road, and that's just how it should be! Well done!
Cycoriot sounded downright heavenly. Pun absolutely intended. I hope we get a Charlie song next with her reprising her role.
I LOVE the use of the 'smile like you mean it' melody for Charlie. It's as if Charlie is either trying to convince Husk using his own words or Husk has taken inspiration from her, depending on which scene happened first. The different genre from your other music makes it all the more interesting, and I feel like you nailed fitting it right in with the story you're telling. Amazing job!

Gah this was awesome! I feel like it perfectly captures what we know so far about Husk. He really is the more down-to-earth one out of everyone in the hotel, fully aware that he's down in Hell for what he did in life and he's accepted it. He feels there is no hope for him because he doesn't deserve hope, and while he might find Charlie's cheerful naivete endearing, he believes she won't be able to break through those walls he put up.

This might be my favorite line in the whole song, how it emphasizes how his obvious alcoholism has consumed him, filling up this husk of a man, to quote Silva Hound's own Husk track. The song itself almost feels like a continuation of "Smile Like You Mean It" but from Husk's perspective, which is why I noticed Charlie's parts sounded a lot like his in Alastor's song. He even chuckles as the words sound familiar.

You never fail to not disappoint. This song shows the same thoughts I think a lot of the fans have for Husk; the potential of being the hardest project. Everything about the song showed off why his name is exactly that: he is a husk of his former human self. And he accepts that and no amount of optimism will change it. This song made me so excited for Husk's role to be expounded on even more.

I think country Rock style fits Husk perfectly. since we don't know when he died he could very well possibly died in the 1800's gambling away his life till the end.

You know? I think this is the finest proof that there IS a way to redeemed people like Husk. If Charlie keeps him at the hotel, just doing his bartender job, and not expecting any change from him. It'll take decades, but if Charlie manages to become Husk's friend (and if the Hotel actually works) he may start shifting his perspective in life.
I'll love if this was his Redemption Story, it'll show the PAINFULLY slow and gradual process it is for someone who's given up, and how your environment and people around you can play a major influence.

Ok, time to gush. The fact that it’s technically a duet makes it even better. Thinking back on the pilot, it was interesting to see how excited Charlie was to have Husk at the hotel, only to be let down by him in a blunt and dismissive way.

The way they bounce off each other; Charlie’s attempts to get him to try and let her help him, while Husk says that there’s nothing she can do for him. He feels like he’s too far gone to be redeemed. You can hear it in his voice, how bitter and defeated he feels about his situation. Working under a boss he dislikes, trapped in Hell for eternity, and all he can do to cope is numb himself w/ alcohol. He’s a broken shell of who he was. 🥺💔
But I still love this sound and rhythm of it, like an old rock song with a hint of Blues in it. It’s going to be my ear worm for weeks now if I keep coming back to listen. I give it a 💯/10!
Glad you pursue this because Husk has always been my favorite and there's just not enough of him around. I'm a recovering alcoholic and have always thought I was a shit person, but also don't want to put my problems on someone else to solve, so this shit hits hard. I've had this on loop for so many hours at work.

The second I heard those guitar strings, I knew this was going to be amazing. And it is! The melodies, the back and forth with Charlie, the little parody for 'Smile Like You Mean It'. It's so amazing what you, Cycoriot, and Ninjahaku have doen for this! I can sense the begrudging acceptance of Husk and his self within the art as well as the lyrics and it's just perfect.
You and all the artists involved or featured on your tracks and projects understand the assignment to the letter and deliver some of the best content this fanbase has heard/seen ever, and that's no exaggeration.
