I have a limited powerboost with 24k or so miles and just over a year on it. (Jan 6th was my anniversary) I love it! I live in the mountains and I wired up my power box so I could hook up the truck and use it during power outages and have used it twice for that as we do get outages especially in winter a few weeks ago it lasted 14 hours! But thanks to my truck I had heat and almost forgot there was a power outage! With the ride, massage seats and all the conveniences it’s an amazing road trip vehicle can’t wait for blue cruise! I can pull a trailer, drive 13 hours a day multiple days cross country and not be fatigued at all and I am 60 and three years ago I shattered my pelvis and broke three vertebrae but this truck is amazing. Hopefully they will upgrade BlueCruise to work while towing and eventually full autonomous driving? One can hope would really help with those cross country trips. It doesn’t blink an eye in the snow up here in the Smokey’s. I can’t imagine a vehicle that could be built with more useful features for me than this truck.
Sounds like a great setup, Brad!
I own an F150 PowerBoost 7.2KW and lover it. Usually get 20 mpg but have gotten 24. I got this setup to go
600 plus mile range is really impressive when you realize that the powerboost has a ~30 gallon tank and most non-hybrid F150's come with a 36 gallon tank.
This truck was made for a person like me. A handyman in a big city. Not a lot of people have outlets outside and not having to bring a generator with me at all times is a big plus. I also spend a lot of time sitting in the vehicle on the phone, and not having to have it idling while using the heater/AC is huge.
I want one of the hybrid F150s SO SO SO badly. the idea of getting 24ish mpg in a full size truck sounds mindblowing. Can’t find any of them around me for sale though.
You can always do a pre-order for one if you like! Give us a call or go to huntauto.com to fill out the pre-order form.
The 2.7l eco boost gets 26mpg highway AnywH with a conventional engine.
I love my Power Boost! No Regrets!
We have 2x 2021 PB. We are only getting about 20-21mpg and the electric on both is not running as much as we see in many videos. But on a completely "babying it" trip of about 45 miles on a warmer day, staying at 55mph I did hold 28mpg though.
I am thinking this is due to being in Michigan. We received delivery back in November and have not had "warm" batteries yet. I think that may have a decent impact. We have regularly been under 30 degrees Fahrenheit with a quite a few nights easily into the single digits and even a few as low as -12 degrees.
But the trucks are fast. No problem with launching off the line and passing others when needed.
Both have about 5k miles so far and no issues.
Can't wait to see the summer performance with the batteries being warmer.
That will absolutely have an effect! We’d love to hear what you think come summer time!
My wife has the Escape hybrid and I find myself playing the E-coaching game when I drive it. I just ordered a 2022 F150 PowerBoost to replace my current F150 3.5 EcoBoost. I'm looking forward to playing the game in my own truck; unfortunately the dealer said it could be as long as 6 -9 months before I receive my new truck.
Hey Ross,
I just ordered the same a few weeks ago. 6-9 months lead time? Did they sound certain on that… my dealer told me 2 months roughly. Huge gap there lol
@@brittanylocke7949 No certainty in their prediction...they just said they had no idea and it could be 6-9 mo. I like your prediction much better; I think I'll go with that!
@@brittanylocke7949 Well, just got an email from Ford saying the truck will be built the week of Jan. 24th. Very close to your 2 month time frame.
I would be surprised if it was more than 90 days
@@ross7684 I just ordered one a week ago, and got quoted for late March, so a little over 2 months. My dealer thought it would be 6 months as well.
Great video thanks for sharing. Question, do you know if there is a way to secure the key fob to my 2022 F-150 Platinum Powerboost? I recently had someone break in my windows trying to get access to the truck, luckily the alarm went off once the window broke. The police told me thieves these days have their own technology to use an aftermarket transmitter to gain access to these newer trucks. Surely its not that easy for a thieve to just use a random remote to gain access, do you know anything about this?
I have the same truck how did you get your screen to have the digital speed come up in the center?
My speed comes up on lower right
i would say there was 0 information about their experience with the truck over the last 6 months, except for the info of 25 mpg average, which was helpful for me.
But i just saved everyone else 18 minutes.
More of a pov drive.
exactly.
Yeah, good point, other than it makes a great commuter vehicle if you like trucks and want to get 25 mpg; nothing about reliability, dislikes after 13000 miles, etc. I just ordered one, though because I wanted a little more power than my 3.5 EcoBoost for towing a lite travel trailer. I didn't want to go all the way to a 3/4 ton truck because then my wife would have wanted a bigger travel trailer and I've found that I'm not as hip to RVing as she is or as I thought I'd be.
What size of tank it is? Regular or extended?, awesome looking truck 🙌
Has to be a regular. They don't offer the power boost with the extended.
@@scottreynolds2246 , It's got to be the regular for that mpg to make sense, because my 17 Lariat came with the 36 gallon tank. and it gives me 600+ miles to the tank
In order to fit room for some of the Pro-Power on board battery equipment it isn’t possible to fit the extended range tank with a PowerBoost.
@@huntauto , Makes total sense! 👍
Glad we could help!
That blinking dash is driving me nuts. Is there a reason for that?
It's an infrared sensor that is visible on the camera's recording!

Thanks for the reply 🙂

I Bought a powerboost from you guys about a month ago. Went from the 5.0 to a hybrid and I love it. I get about 670 range. Best engine for me!
Thanks for choosing us!
Still loving the powerboost? I'm personally thinking of going that way and I also currently have the 5.0
I test drove one today! Placed an order for the powerboost. Love the economy on the test drive.
@@JRHighmore over 3k on it now, still absolutely love it man.
I am towing a 24 ft enclosed trailer. Only towing 6000 pounds. I am getting 5 miles to the gallon towing. That's a joke
I love my Ford Fusion hybrid (has the brake coach system in it as well, and I too make it a game of maximizing my MPG), and looking forward to purchasing my first truck. Definitely looking at the F150. I'm currently deployed oversea's still planning this purchase out one day. Yea, one day in the future when I can make it back to the States.
I too had a 2013 fusion hybrid, now driving my new 150 powerboost for a month and absolutely love it. Coming from the fusion hybrid you’ll definitely have the experience to get the most gas mileage out of the 150. I consistently beat the gas mileage on the sticker plus you’ll have a tonne of power and capability when needed. Can’t wait to hook this up to my camper and use the pro power on board for boon-docking.
One of the best vehicles I ever owned.lots of power, drives like a car and super comfortable.
Have you towed anything with it. I'm only getting 5 miles to the gallon towing a 24 ft trailer 6000 lbs
I have a 2021 in 302A trim. I have about 18K miles on it. I watch these reviews occasionally to see if anyone cuts to the chase about the F-150 Hybrid. I've seen more than my share of not getting the FULL story. First disregard the "miles till empty" display. It adjusts constantly, depending on how you drive on the last fill up so its pretty much useless. Sometimes you fill up and the number may vary by a hundred miles or more. In reality, during a trip, the accumulated mileage is typically reported as being about 8/10s of a mile per gallon over actual, as determined by how much fuels you have to add to get it refilled, which isn't bad. As for it being a hybrid... it has some utility when used in town under slower speed driving conditions, but you'll want to have it in ECO mode... which helps with the mileage numbers. On the highway its pretty much useless as it won't go into electric drive mode over about 60 MPH and even when it does it will only go about 3/10s of a mile until the battery is spent. Try driving on the Interstate highways at 60 MPH... You'll get a LOT of attention from other drivers. The other sort of "exaggeration" is that the 7.2 KW onboard power supply is nothing more than a 7.2 KW inverter output, using the DC power from the hybrid battery. It is not the same as power you'd get from your household outlet. It sort of works... but it depends on what you try to connect to it. The spec says these are 115V 20 Amp outlets. They are, sort of... I have an air compressor that I thought would be really cool if I could us the truck to power it at a remote location. This compressor requires 115 Volt power and less than 15 Amps to power it and it works just fine on my home's power. Will the truck power it? NOPE!, not even on a good day. Like a lot of inverters, if not all..., it doesn't like the startup load that the compressor's electric motor requires. SUPER disappointing. Haven't seen this with other power tools. I've never seen any specs on the inverter but I'm guessing it does NOT provide a true sine wave unit. More likely a modified square wave is employed considering they are vastly cheaper than a true sine wave unit. So be advised to determine if your electric appliance needs a true sine wave power profile to operate properly. I will drag my oscilloscope out some time and check it, but I'd be REALLY surprised if it is a true sine wave unit. The other thing is the GFCI in these circuits are really sensitive, so don't be surprised when it trips off. Again my Black and Decker hedge trimmer works fine with my house GFCI units but it does not like the ones used in the F-150. Just another hybrid mystery... I know there are a couple of other issues with this truck, but its late and I can't remember any more, right now. However! I have one other issue with EcoBoost engines in general, hybrid or otherwise. The gas mileage will plummet in cold weather and I don't mean a little bit, I mean like easily 40%. I noticed this last winter when I was driving from Washington state to Minnesota in the dead of winter... above freezing it seemed almost normal. However the colder it gets the more fuel it uses. I was refueling one minus 15 below day, at a gas station and one of the other customers also had an EcoBoost. He asked me if I had noticed this issue and I replied, I sure had. So, its not just me. At 15 below zero I was down to about 12 MPG while when in the 30s or 40s it was more like 20 MPG. Its dramatically different. Not sure I know the reason but I suspect it is the aluminum engine... I had a 56 Chevy with an aftermarket ZZ4 engine that had aluminum heads and intake. It made no difference whether I had a 180 degree thermostat or not. The engine would never get up to temp. I tried completely blocking the radiator with cardboard and it would then move the temp gauge a bit and deliver a little heat. The EcoBoost does the same thing. Drive one across Montana when its 25 below zero sometime and you will know what I mean. Bring lots of cardboard and one of those heaters you can plug into a cigarette lighter or your onboard AC power.
What state are you in? (More specifically, what altitude are you at?)
Just crossed 2,500 in mine. Will agree that driving has become a game of efficiency on most commutes.
It is nice to switch to sport mode every now and then though to just floor it!!
Best of both worlds!
With the extra power, Sport mode is a ton of fun!
I just hit my 5k mark, went to do the oil change and tire rotation and apparently somehow a bolt on the left rear axle snapped. Not sure how or what caused that.. been about a week as they're waiting on the part at the dealer =/. Miss sport mode. The only thing that I find kind of annoying is the skipping 2nd gear a lot when driving it normally. It seems like most of the time it goes from 1st to 3rd then 4 -5 -6 etc. Anyone else get that?
@@gamerjenkins2053 I’m about 700 miles from 5k.
I experienced that when test driving a few of the 10 speeds early on. The dealers kept saying that after 2500 miles it would break in🥴.
I just kept looking until I found mine which was fine right off the lot.
Apparently there was supposed to be a factory update to correct the timing?
@@mowad1 My truck did that initially, but after maybe 500 miles it fixed itself, I think it does that because the transmission has to learn for the first however many miles. I had that issue in a toyota 8 speed and ram 8 speed, and to fix it they have to reset the learning process on the transmission and then you have to drive a little more aggressively. But if you drive in eco mode it will almost always skip 2nd.
Power boost is really nice but I think a lot of people really under estimate the 2.7 ecoboost. I had one on my 2016 F150 XLT Sport with the extended tank and I got on average around 700 miles of range.
Was that with the 36 gallon tank
@@bennippert4482 yes sir! Firm believer if your buying a truck get the extended tank.
My 16 2.7 was phenomenal too, torquey bugger too
I’m getting around 750 miles per tank in my 22 powerboost. Couple that with the ability to smoke just about every other truck on the street, hard to beat it right now in terms of fun and functionality.
@@rmac2786 ya that’s pretty great really
I have almost 9k miles on my Lariot Powerboost, I surprise a lot of expensive coupes when they think they are fast and I walk on them 0-60 even with 500lbs in the back. All the haters can suck it. I get great MPG's and can spank most cars. Best of both worlds plus Blue Cruise will come soon for free, a 3k cost on Chevy trucks.
I am considering a Powerboost. I was thinking of adding a Stang Gt which would give me 3 vehicles. I think I will just get a fast truck that I can fit in lol. I know there is no comparison between a pickup and Stang.
10,000 miles on a 2021 powerboost , chronic poor engine vibrations when cold or warm, in dealer 4 times, numerous program changes, still idles like a truck with 200,000 miles on it. Have had 3 other 3.5 with no problems, I think I have a lemon,
Most definitely. My 21 Powerboost Lariat only has a small vibration at start up when idling in electric mode. Besides that, it's near perfect.
Nothing but issues with mine and only 6,500 miles on it. Ford should've named it "recall city" and the trim should be "clueless mechanics"
I have 18,000 miles on my '21 Lariat PB - great truck - easy to get 21 to 25 mpg highway and city. My last 2.7EB was a great truck, but only got 17 to 19, sometimes up to mid 20s on freeway at 60. I tend to drive 75 to 80 on highway and about 1/4 time in city driving. Has some quirks, but saves me BIG on gas.
How did you get that poor mileage on your 2.7? I’m getting 22 on my 21 2.7
I'm very anxious to get mine. I cannot wait. It's the perfect stop-gap to the Lightning, which I'm eventually gonna get, x3
I'll sell you mine. I bought mine for towing. It only gets 5 to miles a gallon towing
Great video! I was wondering what your payload, gcvw and gvwr in your model are? Also is it the 6.5 length bed?
That looks to be the 5'7" bed
Can't get a 6.5' bed with the Powerboost.
@@bobfuhrwerk2869 yes you can. You just can’t get the 36 gal fuel tank.
Is there a big difference between F-150 2021 and F-150 2022 platinum Fx4 Powerboost ?
Platinum WAY heavier less MPG
I really like the analogue gauges and column shifter. All the other videos I`ve seen had the full digital dash and the stupid power folding console shifter... How do you get this with the more sensible interface?
This is an XLT trim package, it doesn’t feature any of the all digital displays like the Lariats and above.
The fact this guy gets 25 average is amazing.
Have a 2021 hybrid. Bought used 7000 miles just broken in. LOVE IT. It kinda makes u drive intelligently and gingerly. Great mileage, just as u descibed. I will be towing a 34 coachman travel trailer. But mostly be around town. Had a 2004 chevy suburban 5.3L. It was getting tired, owned it from new. This was the best choice for a replacement. Will tow 12000 pounds, trailer is 7500 max. Waiting for good weather and lower gas prices to tow.
Camping with it is great!
Can you run the AC with the engine off?
yes
ECO mode shifts better.
Off subject, but maybe you can help. I have a 2021 F-150. When I back up my flatbed trailer, sometimes (even with the various camera views) it disappears from view. In the olden days, I would simply open the door, lean out a bit to see it, and then continue backing. My new truck puts itself in PARK as soon as I open the door, and I can’t get it out of park until I shut the door. It is maddening!! Is there some secret to over-riding that automatic PARK thing? Thanks!!
Unfortunately we don’t have a suggestion to work around that! It’s a safety feature built in to the truck’s computer.
@@huntauto Thank you anyway! I appreciate your time.
this is a first time i see a column shifter on the new f150
They’re still out there! Certain XLTs and Lariats are the start of the center stack shifter!
This is very interesting, for years I've wanted the floor shifter because it just feels good in your hand, however with the introduction of the flat work surface I would actually prefer the column shifter so I can use that work surface while driving for certain instances. I'm very curious as to how they packaged this truck. Usually I would like the XLT sport on Lariat sport packages and I think that removes this option I'm afraid?
I think the F150 Tremor is impressive. I may order a 22 F150 Tremor
It doesn't come with a PB though

Im wondering if Im still in a break in period. I am a very conservative driver too. I do mostly in town driving. Hoping I can see a little better MPG.
What is your mpg?

The issue around shifting… I don’t think this is unique to this model. I own a 2018 escape SEL and notice that it often has a hard time figuring out what gear to switch to when you are making quick speed changes in some instances.
How is the escape relative to this at all?
@@calebniederhofer6529 it’s a ford, with ford technology in the engine. I’d say that’s pretty related… the shifting issue can be found in every ford vehicle I’ve driven. I own a 2018 Ford Escape and 2022 Ford F-150 with the powerboost engine. I’ve noticed the shifting issue less in the f150, but when it’s there, it’s almost identical to the issue I feel in the escape.
@@michaelbonds2442 It is not related at all actually. Completely different transmissions, motors, drivetrain, everything.
@@calebniederhofer6529 ok… I’m not a big car guy, but I do know a lot about engineering systems and programming. It’s true that these two vehicles do not share the same engine, transmission, etc… but what they do share is ford technology and engineering. When a programmer creates two different applications, they are technically not the same. But they likely share similarities. They both may use or borrow technology from the other, so inherently they will share similar pitfalls. That’s what I was getting at.

That has been my thought as well and nobody is talking about it because I personally think the long-term maintenance cost of these vehicles are going to be astronomical.
There’s a 100,000 mile warranty on it
37 KW? Holy Shit! That beats the 7.2 KW that comes from the factory! lol
Why does ford put higher powered engines in the f150 than they do in the superduty? Ridiculous the 7.3 gas has 95 ft lbs less tourque than this f150.
Not everything is about power. The 7.3 is built to tow heavier, and often. It also is a naturally aspirated motor. Completely different man.
The hybrid will likely get the same as the ecoboost on the highway. In the city at speeds less than 35 mph we can max out gas mileage with a gentle foot. Remember the electric motor is only 30 hp. Pushing hard on gas will kick in motor and boost. With 7000 kms on mine, I am happy after a Tundra.
This is what we found too. It really makes a difference in the city.
@@huntautoquick question… do you recommend this truck in 2023 with the max tow package? I use it for towing a dump trailer
I've had mine about 2 weeks now. First off, I'm one of the few people who gets close to if not right at the epa ratings for all of my vehicles and this is not my first hybrid. I bought it far away from home so it had a nice long highway break in. So far I'm very disappointed with the MPG. Sure, at 70 to 80 mph on the highway I wasn't expecting much (did the same as a non-hybrid, 16 to 19 mpg) but now that I'm back home, it's not much better in the suburbs/city. Yours seemed to go into electric only mode FAR more than mine does. I get a few seconds (up to 30 seconds at times) here and there at the lower speeds but that's about it. I'm thinking there might actually be something wrong with this one and what worries me is mpg is so subjective and variable, the dealer will assume it's me and not the truck.
We have a '21 RAV 4 that was getting a rather disappointing 37 or so mpg in town. Took it to the dealer, where I assume they adjusted the computer and voila! we are consistently getting 44-46 mpg in town. So what does this have to do with an F150? Don't take no for an answer. Apparently (at least Toyota) hybrids can be adjusted and I suspect F150s can be, too. We are looking at getting our son's '21 F150 hybrid from him in a year or two, as he frequently trades.
This was a great video hard to find some real world drive while in electric and how often the gas engine will come on! Thanks again.
Glad it was helpful!

That sucks I was excited about it but it is basically useless I can’t believe it.

I have a 2021 F150 5.0 V8 and it's awesome. Have never driven the 3.5.
Pros of the 3.5:
Huge bottom end Torque
Turbos negate any elevation disadvantage
Can be better on gas as long as you don't drive like a maniac... but that torque is rather fun!
Lighter Engine, meaning more overall payload (As long as it ain't the Hybrid, that battery pack adds weight)
Cons:
Twin Turbos do add more points of failure
It's either Eco or Boost, you don't do both. If you boost it often, it will suffer in economy
If you prefer the V8 engine sound, you'll miss it (Though I prefer Turbo Whistling myself)
Noticeable Turbo Lag if you're sensitive to it. It's not as bad, but it can be bad in some points

I have the bigger tank with my 2021 xlt
Powerboost configurations come with a 30.1 gallon tank.
Why is the dash flashing constantly?
I believe the flashing is more of the video recording equipment. The dash is not actually flashing, just the camera makes it look that way. I could be wrong but I see it a lot in youtube videos on vehicles
Is there a mode that you can constantly run the engine and electric at the same time?
I don't own one but I would guess that sport mode does that.
What gear ratio is in this truck?

I have about 2700 miles on mine and have never gotten more than 20 mpg. Freeway driving at 75 mph I get 18 mpg.
Sadly most of the roads around me are 40-50 mph zones. Seems like mpg shines in the lower speed range. Especially in the 30mph range. I was curious if the lower 3.55 axle would help any at the higher speeds. I have a 3.73.
Mine is pretty new, but using ECO mode I'm getting 25 mpg. I'm able to go over 40MPH in electric driving mode.
@@hahaadventures4838 That seems to be the consensus of all the reviews of new F150s I have read and watched.
MPG is always going to differ between drivers. The PB has trainers on the screen to help coach your habits. If you follow them you can achieve very good mileage.
I have the XLT Sport 4x4 302a almost fully loaded and have been calculating my mpg from day 1 end of March this year. It’s my daily driver and probably 50/50 City/hwy. I don’t drive aggressively but do like to run around 75-80 on the highway. Summer blend regular gas has averaged 23.1 and so far winter blend is bouncing between 22.8-22.9. Part of that is also my wife using it a few weekends and ruining my average! When she drives it she’s consistently 2mpg lower than me in any of our vehicles. Again, it’s very dependent on the driver’s style. I practice carrying my speed and minimizing uphill acceleration if possible. This applies to any vehicle of course. You can also train the computer to know when to drive electric only. One trick is to lightly ride the brakes for a couple seconds while cruising and it will kill the engine. Light acceleration up to 50mph is possible. But rarely anything over that. The battery is not designed to run electric only all the time. It’s to augment the ICE and reduce its workload to help fuel consumption. The byproduct is HP and torque gains. Fully electric will only get you a couple miles.
FYI - I keep trip 2 unchanged between oil changes to record long term mpg. I also track consumption on Feully app. AND… I also calibrated my trip computer in the dash settings. The AFE Bias is defaulted to 1000 at the factory but doesn’t account for axle ratio or tire diameter so most trip computer readings are optimistic. Mine was 1.2mpg off. After about a month of fill ups I got it pretty accurate at 964. I can explain more if you ask.
Hey my ETA Is Nov 13 when should I expect to see it at the dealer?
Is that Nov 13 number your scheduled build date?
@@huntauto production date was Oct 6
There is always a chance for delays but that Nov 13 date should be pretty close to accurate. You can always call your dealer to verify!
@@huntauto sweet!
I hate mine. I'm getting 15mpg and ALL SORTS of electrical issues.
Tell us more......
@@cwqrpportable is been in the shop 4x in 2 weeks. 12-16mpg max, speedo screen freaking out, shifting in and out of 4x4 without me touching the controls, nav screen not working and 26 codes myself control module codes.
Rear power connections aren't working either.
It's been bad

I'm with you Brad. Spent $82,000 for a 2021 F150 Limited and drove it for one day and it leaked all the antifreeze in my garage. Took it to the service dept and has been there for over two months waiting on parts. So sad
Is that the 6.5 bed?
I got the 6.5 bed, I haven't really used it much, but one thing of note, is that it sticks out about a foot longer than a normal parking spot.
Can we get a review after 10 yrs of use with 200 000 + miles.
We’ll circle back in around September of 2031.
25 MPG no bueno
you talk way too slow. this is painful to watch
The power boost isn't offered with the 6.5' box.....all other powertrains it is.
Wrong
I have a question; I currently own a 2018 F150 FX4 Ecoboost Max Tow. I do tow a 38 ft 9,000 pound RV. I also get horrible mpg. Can this truck pull what I’m currently pulling now and better??
I'm not sure which ecoboost you have but the Powerboost is rated for a 12,400lb conventional tow with a 4x4 model. This Powerboost hybrid engine has 430hp @6000rpm and 570lb-ft of torque (@3000rpm)
@@huntauto I have the 3.5L Ecoboost. Max Tow. 385HP 450 Torque.
