  • Following on from a smaller event in June, the East Lancs Autumn Steam Gala celebrated the 100th anniversary of the merger of the Lancashire & Yorkshire and London North Western Railways in 1922.
The event would see five out of the six preserved L&Y locos in preservation, four of which are in steam. Visiting from the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway were recently overhauled L&Y Class 25 No 52044, and Class 21 'Pug' No 51218 which would be on static display for the weekend at Bury. Also visiting from its normal Keighley home base was LNWR Coal Tank No 1054. These would join the resident East Lancs L&Y locos, including the other preserved 'Pug' L&Y No 19, which was carrying the guise of scraped classmate No 51241.
The timetable for the event saw a mix of full line passenger trains, along with shuttles and goods trains to Ramsbottom, where shunting demonstrations took places on the Saturday. The weather was a mix of rain and sun over the three days, but it remained mostly dry throughout.
