Definatley not masterpiece. Whole album is based on 4 chord progression. Achtung Baby is much more significant in terms of pushing boundaries.

@@MrCold012 apparently you and I have a different definition of a musical masterpiece- and lets be clear that subjectivity is and will always be the foundation of categorizing music from any perspective-here it is just in case: A musical masterpiece is a piece of music that captures in some fundamental and essential way something about music and ourselves. It speaks to us. Or do you believe that a masterpieces only validation is that it be complex?

The problem is basically Vin looks at A Beautiful Day and believes it’s an amazing song when it’s meh. He listens to a really great song (With Or Without You) and is stuck trying to justify his preconception that he won’t like it as much as A Beautiful Day. Meanwhile, Sori listens intently and feels the music, reacts to the lyric and delivery, and gives an honest emotional reaction. Then Vin proceeds to tell us how smart he is proving he’s a windbag while the one with the real intelligence sits to his right. She has emotional intelligence in spades which I’m sure comes in handy when living with a KIA.

the literal breakdown of every line of a song in their reactions drives me bananas. there is such a thing as a universal lyric. the idea of using symbolism and imagery to enable every listener to relate. this album was listened to by people of all ages from countries all around the world. and bono knew it too as evidence of the tracks being about universal themes like love, war, drugs and faith.
i saw U2 on the 1987 Joshua Tree tour. it was 95,000 of us singing along with the songs in unison. i have been to a ton of concerts and live sporting events in my life but nothing rivaled that night.

Over analysis of the song. It's been said this song could have a double meaning. Is he singing about a woman or is he talking about the Catholic Church? Think about it. Some of their songs did deal with the church or faith. The October and War albums are good examples. This turned into couples therapy.

I can't stand the song "Imagine." Never liked it. Too dam slow, simple and boring and I just don't see the so-called "genius" behind it at all. Or basically anything Lennon did solo. Too much Yoko influencing him. And they played it so dam much when he died it turned to actual hatred of the song for me. I really wonder if he hadn't had died just before or after it was released if anyone would even remember the song. That being said to say you know next to nothing about him and this iconic song is silly if you're going to review anything by him. Might be a product of them doing so many reviews in a week and not doing any or very little research of the artist or the group before or during the reaction. The sudo like-hearted but introspective approach they take to all their reactions and how they go off on tangents as they do I actually like a lot but "sometimes" they maybe could at least wiki what they are reacting too as they react like "Soul Train Bro "does so they are not totally clueless.. But geez stop getting so butt hurt over his ignorance. They are allowed their opinion. Which is refreshing because not many reacters actually ever say they don't like something. This is for fun and should not be taken so seriously. I too was amazed that they knew so little about Led Zeppelin and didn't like Dream Theater that much. But get over it or move on. I feel in general they are very entertaining.

A little factoid: Whenever they play this song live, they'll usually mash it up with a cover of Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division. Bono was in the studio when Joy Division was recording that song, and he was so moved by the lyrics and by Ian Curtis's performance that he was immediately a fan. And he was devastated when Ian committed suicide, so he always pays homage by performing the two songs together.

    Here's an interesting interpretation :
This song is about a man who's torn between his predictable love for a woman who promises to always be by his side , the "good woman" (wife or girlfriend) and his fatal attraction for the other woman "the dark lady" who he can't have. She is unavailable (married or in a relationship) which makes his love for her all the more unpredictable and unattainable. She also seems to be unhappy in her current situation.
I think this song is an ode to the "dark lady" even though most comments seem to interpret it from the point of view of the "good woman".
"Stone set in your eyes": Her eyes are lifeless due to her unhappy situation.
"Thorn twist in your side": She is stuck and unable to make a move. If she does, the consequences can be irreparable.
The man feels that he has to ultimately choose between the two women.
"Sleight of hand and twist of fate": things happen very quickly and unpredictably just like a card trick. It also alludes to deception towards one or both women.
"On a bed of nails she makes me wait": she keeps him forever on hold, unable to decide on what to do and the waiting is killing him slowly.
"Through the storm we reach the shore. You give it all but I want more": He and the "dark lady" attempt to make it work and they almost succeed at it but he realizes that he wants all of her which she can't give him.
"And you give yourself away": The "dark lady" is wasting away in her current relationship.
"My hands are tied, My body bruised, she's got me with Nothing to win and Nothing left to lose": The man is also suffering from the fact that his "dark lady" is not making a decision as to whether she will leave her current situation to be with him or not. He has nothing to win because he knows that he will never have her and nothing left to lose because he knows that she's the one he really wants to be with.
"I can't live With or without you": He can't live with her because of the circumstances thrust upon them and he can't live without her because she's the one he needs and wants to be with.

Joshua Tree is what I call a mega album. A culture mover. It turned U2 into global superstars. Well over 25 million albums sold it's been re-issued twice. It was a turning point for the band as they also radically changed their sound. Every track on it is solid. Vin and Sori in my opinion this is one of the albums that you should do a live track by track listening reaction to. It's fucking astounding. And watching them live on that tour and n 87? Mind-blowing.

Was wondering when you were going to do a U2 reaction video ! Then a Couples Therapy Session broke out, lol.
Vin, I can assure you U2 have waaayyy better songs than "it's a beautiful day". That song is probably one of their weaker ones. Even on that album I barely consider it the 3rd best song ("walk on" and "elevation" are superior).
"Mysterious Ways", "End of the World", "One", "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "Pride", "Angel of Harlem", "Bad" (NOT the studio version, but the LIVE version from the music video that even radio prefers to play and is considered the playlist version of the song).
If you want to do a video reaction of theirs, just ask me. I know some perfect ones that your audience will enjoy.
Happened to see U2 at the Pop Tour in the late 90's. Been loving them since the mid 80's.

Interesting tidbit, 10+ years ago, i was bouncing at a local bar. A girl i went out with the night before stopped to see me there, while i was working. A cover band was playing, and they closed with this. The lights were darkened, fog machines filled the area, it was slow, it was gentle, it was something that felt "too strong" for the 2nd time i was seeing this girl. Our hands came together, fingers laced as i struggled to protect the bar while wondering what the hell was happening.
I married this girl 5 years later. This became our song because it was the first *moment* we shared together, and it became our first dance at our wedding. And now, february 2019, we're together for 10 years, 2 months, and expecting our first child this september.. True story :)
And yet, still i cant request Akercocke - "Shelter From The Sand" and have it played because im not a patron. Also, a true story :P

They have no idea they’re talking about an iconic band. Starting in 1983 with the single “Sunday Bloody Sunday over the course of 20 years U2 has been influential. FYI... this is from the album Joshua Tree, U2 wrote and recorded the album in the Southern California desert. The song With Or Without you is about the difficulty his marriage experienced when U2 became popular and started touring around the world.

This song was released as a single from The Joshua Tree, 1987's biggest Rock album, one of the biggest selling albums ever. and one of the most important album of the 80s, probably the 80s mirror to Marvin Gaye's 'what's Going On', reflecting on society like few could. This Grammy winning album is one of the most important in the the history of Rock, and back then, With or without You was 'the' song to relate to. It reached the top of the charts in 3 countries, and was a huge hit worldwide. It's one of the greatest songs of all time, as listed by Rolling Stone magazine. (U2 were featured on the cover of TIME magazine following it's release - before the album reached planetary success ).

There's nothing to understand, except for the misogyny and condescension.
Apparently, women are too "fragile" to handle doing any heavy lifting in a couple so that all falls upon the shoulders of modern-day atlas Vin. I mean in a normal equal relationship you'd think people would take turns to being 'the strong one' when the other isn't and they carry each other through tough times but you know... christians get their gender roles from Paul, a notorious misogynist.

Evidently Sori is stuck in one of those "can't live or without you" relationships until she figures out that you actually CAN live without someone.
