This was my first camera, bought when I was 15 in 2010. Have recently got back into photography, this time with a bigger budget and I'm loving every second of it. This is where it all started!
This is also my first camera, I just bought it 😂 Maybe I’m late. Honestly I can’t get it to turn on, I can’t even use it yet 😭😭
It was my first back in 2011 bought it on the day on the way to my highschool graduation with the fam.
Just got a Lumix bigger bugget 😅 but yes having fun with it 2010 i got this one 3d100
@@PlanetColon myn has a black screen now when i try to shoot been years since i last used it
My first camera I ever had that I picked up from a pawn shop for $100 years ago. It may not have the state of the art features but it was a great starter to learn how to shoot plus if I didn't enjoy shooting pictures/video I wouldn't have wasted a lot of money.
I've just got this one(plus 18-55 + 55-200) for about 200 bucks. This is my first camera. That's why I searched UA-cam and finally am watching your clip. Thanks.
I just bought it 2 days ago for 40€ to complement my D5300. I like to take photos. So I am aware of the shutter count of the D5300 and I don't want to raise it (already 49.000). That's why I bought the D3100 to play with it as I like and it was a bargain (40€ with 700 as shutter count). With a decent lens (for example Nikkor DX 35mm f/1.8), you can take great photos with this DSLR. Don't listen to anyone that tells you it is a garbage. The body is not important. What makes a great photo is lenses and composition. Body become obsolete quickly but lenses will stay. In fact, there is not so much difference in image quality in those last 15 years. I say in image quality. Even professional photographers sometimes cannot tell the differences between photos taken with old or new Nikons
In order to fully use all the possibilities of this DSLR, avoid shooting in JPEG. Shoot in RAW to get the maximum of this camera and learn how to enhance your photo with Adobe Lightroom.
I have some nice lenses with me which are cheap with great sharpness for photography :
- 35mm 1.8
- 50mm 1.8
- 100mm 2.8 e series
- 80-200 MK1 2.8
These last two are great for portrait
May i know where did you buy it
If the body can correctly interperet the light from the lens, then it is good for the beginners
I bought my D3100 20 years ago.
5 years ago I bought a D7100 and put the "old" one away.
I recently pulled it out again, bought new batteries for it and started playing with it, with the experience I had gained learning the D7100.
I am blown away by how good the D3100 still is!
It is not as convenient to use and does not have all the tricks and buttons of the 7100, but it is easier to learn and is a great camera!
If you are starting out, this is a great second hand camera to buy.
On "Auto" it goes into full automatic and will give you reliable photos every time!
As you experiment and learn on the Program, Shutter, Aperture and Manual modes you will learn about how photography really works.
A great starting camera and if all you want is ordinary photos to document the history of your families life, this is ALL you will ever need!
I have put mine back into service.
It is smaller, lighter and will take all the lenses I have acquired over the years.
For simple "happy snaps" it is easier than the D7100 and has more options than a phone camera.
I love my D7100, but the D3100 is still a VERY useful camera!
Hello, i want to but d3100, are this camera still good for taking photos?
This was release in 2010. How did you buy this 20 years ago?
@@ChristianBayonetaMD Obviously my mistake. I must have bought it in 2010, 13 years ago.
In any case it is quite a while ago.
Picked this camera second hand, to get back into photography also to see if I’d enjoy it enough to continue. About 4 months into owning yet I’m getting some cool shots and looking into upgrading. The d1300 is decent enough to explore photography without getting into too much trouble financially. Great way to get around the cameras short coming to adapt to be able to get some amazing shots. I feel the skills I’ve learned will transfer over to another camera down the road
Bought mine last week very impressed by the lens 18-55 & 55-200 first ever camera just going to really get to know it and figure it out and upgrade to something much nicer
I use this camera for my videos. I'm loving it. Though it's old, but I got compliments how neat and high def the output is. Def squeezing everything out of this camera before buying a newer model.
Thanks, I have just bought one of these as a first camera, keep up the info really well done 👏
Appreciate the update on the D3100. I still have mine and use it. I find amazing it still works pretty well after all these years.
Got one of these too and I really like it. I'm a beginner tho and still not sure what I'm missing out on not buying a brand new camera
@sohail gagai really, you think so? The I guess it’s worth it to check out a new one. The D3100 is still nice to learn from, so for anyone reading this, use it as much as your patience can handle 😄👌
@sohail gagai for photos unlikely
@sohail gagai nah newer mobile sensors arent that large and mp are more in this camera but NEW cameras are so not comparable to mobile ones
Is it good camera?
I learned how to shoot and operate dslr's with this back in like 2011/12 or whenever they were in stores at best buy., i added an old as hell 1.4 manual focus lens and fell in love with dslrs. Funny enough soon after I got my next camera my free time took a nose dive, had to go to school and find work so I couldn't film as much as I wanted anymore. this is still a great camera.
Thank you for your great effort involved in your video 100% respect to you Sir.
just starting playing with cameras - - again - - since retirement - - have this - - you helped - - thanks
Im thinking about getting into photography as well.. they have this camera at my local pawn shot for 100$ and im thinking of trying it out!! Thank you for this video 💯
Really nice video, thanks!
Such a valuable content, didn’t really expect to find any content about this camera i had it around for a while but never really used. I’ll give it a try m, do you recommend any lenses for studio photography ?
I own D3100 for a long time now, but since my eyesight got worse I kinda need to use external screen to get things in focus etc. (and yes I tried the dial next to the viewfinder) and now I'm kinda stuck in a limbo between wanting to go with D90 to test things out or getting that D7200 and having everything I would want for a long time.
My dad has one of these. I asked him if i could have it and he said yes and thanks for the tips and help.
You never did any video about a5000 yet. I picked up 2 of them for like month ago just because of lenses and was thinking of flipping them lightning fast. This cameras surprised me how good they are. I was always pretty underwhelmed by looking at specs of it but i was in for surprises. It turns out to be very good video and photo camera and even af works pretty good. Only thing i am missing from a5100 is 60p but that is pretty minor thing to give up for at least half the price.
I just bought it yesterday for $50 and it took me to your video.
I used the 18-55mm lens with the macro lens to take pictures of flowers, bee's, etc. I always get good pictures with it, even in 2023. I use this and the D3200 because I'm disabled (both shoulders are trash) and lugging around a heavy camera sucks. But then again, I'm not a professional. I do however, live less than 2 hours from the Yosemite Valley, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, 3 1/2 hours from the Pacific and 4 hours from Death Valley/Red Rock Canyon. I see a lot of the older Nikon being used by "older" people who enjoy them. Yes, you can get better pictures with an iPhone than with the D3100/D3200, I guess it's a shame that John Muir didn't have one in his day.
my first digital camera
amazing experience for the time
I got this camera second hand for christmas and along with my canon eos 500 n analog camera I think I have some two decent cameras to get into a bit of street photography.
New subscriber here. Thanks for this video now I decided to buy this kind of camera specially for newbie vlogger like me. I used gopro9 but I want challenges on this kind of camera. Thank you!
I think that for basic photography and specially if you shoot in Raw, you cant go wrong with any DSLR that is 15 years or newer. For video i would go straight to mirorless and never look back. Dslrs was built with photography in mind and adapted slightly for video, but mirorless was other way around.
What is mirrorless?
@@chiozo11 That's when you are fed up with the mirrors. You brake all mirrors in your home, big ones and small. Jokes aside. There is few types of interchangeable lenses cameras. Some use mirrors to project image to your eye and some use small screens instead.
Thanks for this, you just saved me the expenses
I use the Nikon D3100. Wish I could upgrade.. The camera still does the job though. I do not recommend it for low light situations and video.
thank you very much bro. Actually my brother had one and I hardly found it within his old stuff such a coincidence
Hi thanks for uploading this video i was planning of buying it but now iam sure
You can get manual video control by updating the firmware. I updated mine and have full manual control, 15 minute record limit for clips and triple the bitrate (54Mbps instead of 18Mbps). I wish I had done the update 8 years ago. Add a Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens on it, and you're all set.
How do you update its firmware?
@@charlesdizon3975 , it's a firmware "hack". In the UA-cam search put in "Nikon D3100 firmware hack" or "Nikon firmware hack", you will find a few videos about it and samples of video shot with it manualy, some with links for a free download.
@sohail gagai quality for video will still be terrible, this camera is only worth to use for photos
@@rickeyhargrove7556 Thanks, I am going to try my camera again after perhaps a decade or so.
Hey what lens do you use? I have one laying around thinking of getting a good lens so I can take some pics for my clothing brand! I can’t spend a ton on a camera atm!
I still use this camera for events when I am hired for photos + video. Auto focus at dark events can sometimes take 10+ seconds and sometimes it can't focus at all
Great video, new to photography, what is that +__ - at the back of nikon d3100. It's close to where you place your eye to take the picture. Thanks
Is this a good camera for sports photography? I need to start getting video/film of my sons football games
What would you recommend to be the step up to this camera? I am 12 years old and I love photography.I have a budget 😅 Thanks ❤
I bought mine in 2013 and never used it. Bought lenses and filters and many items and it has sat in the bag the whole time. Not one single scratch.
did you edit the photos or they naturally look like that
I would buy a handycam for videoing. For photos I guess it still is a steal deal.
Hi, I've recently entered in the world of photography, and I'm thinking about a good camera to just take photos, do you recommend this one to start with? I don't want to spend a big budget being my first camera.
I'm only interested in taking photos of landscapes, animals, people, cars... I already have an 18-55 vr
Thank you so much!
Is canon m3 better than this camera? Cuz I got both of them on same price
I would like a video about this camera , ios , aperture etc. For this camera , thanks
I currently own one, bought used and in very good condition. But I see alot of these older DSLRs suffers from dim/vignette in the LCDs. Mine does.
Thanks!
I picked one scondhand for around 45$, my first camera, im pretty excited.
Enjoy it!
Where for that amount?
@@SimoneJoseph17 Germany, price is without a lens.
hi, what is your opinion on the yongnuo 50mm
Can you recommend a lens for the d3100?
This is GREAT starting DSLR camera for the price. Especially if you just want SOME video capability, with NIKKOR compatibility.
Is this good for a starter ?
Never had a dlsr before, just use phone
I actually own the Nikon D5500 and the Youngnou 50mm and 35mm
I work with it, my friend, I have 3100, I always work with video, in manual mode, there is no problem.
How? Any suggestion? Hints?
Thanks
What's the best DSLR new or old for $100?
Got it for around $65 last week. Main purpose was having a decent sensor as a webcam. This camera does the job, but still pretty finicky for the use case. Would highly recommend D5100 as it has clean HDMI output option through a firmware mod. I could see D5100 listings for around $95 in my area. Decent price difference. Perhaps someone can suggest a better mirrorless or DSLR to get for under $100 with clean USB/HDMI output and no time limit?
Neilons are not good for that purpose
was looking for a camera and this one seems perfect for me but the thing is all the lenses I've looked for are incredibly expensive since on the website it says it's the Camera body only, I just want a simple lens that isn't over $200
As a photography enthusiast who loves DSLRs but can't afford one, I'm looking to get this as it's looking like a pretty good first DSLR, not planning to use it for videos much and the sample photos look pretty good, definitely better than most phones excluding the top-end ones.
Would you recommend the D3100 with a 15-55 VR lens for 160EUR? It's the average price for a used one where I live and the average price of a new DSLR is around 500.
15-55 sufficient for close distance. Using Nikon D3100 you might require knowledge on art such colour theory, golden ratio theory and etc.
The settings button are sophisticated such as aperture, shutter speed, and need manually adjustments just the lens (distance and focus).
I purchase it for 140EUR, there a tiny scratch on lens but fortunately the lens have no fungus.
Is this good for moving objects?
Which lens schools you put on
Can you make a video and talk to us about lenses for d3100?
Lenses are same like for most if not all other Nikon DSLRs
Is it good for streaming?
Eh I’ve always used canon I really wanna try Nikon I found one on Facebook I think imma get it I don’t do video at all so this is perfect. If I want video I’ll use my m50
Thank you... Still relevant
I bought my d3100 practically new, and was amazed at how quick I learned to shoot with it it was and still is my first dslr but now I’m looking to upgrade on a budget I’ve been lookin at the d5100,d3500, & the d7100? Anything you recommend?
I used a D7100 for a little while and it was a great camera! I would look into either the d3500 or d7100.
@@FoxTailWhipz thank you
@@FoxTailWhipz im gonna go with the d3500 they actually just discontinued it and the d5600
Picked one for 30euros with 5000 clicks. I have D7000 and a7rii but for that money couldn't resist.
I'm looking to upgrade on a camera and I'm wondering if anybody could give me any recommendations on any dslrs, I'm not looking to spend too much though.
What gimbal would be good for this?
I currently still have d3100. Do you have any recommendations to upgrade from on nikon side? Primary use of video tho
For video I would get the Nikon Z50 if it’s in your price range. It’s Nikons new mirrorless mount so you would need an adapter for your d3100 lenses, but it will have better video quality than most other Nikon DSLR cameras. If that’s out of the price range you could look at the D3400 or D3500!
@@FoxTailWhipz thank you!!
Whats the settings on the d3100😊
Pls can you tell me that D3100 camera better than iphone 12,13 cameras?
my aunt said she's gonna give me her camera, and its this one and i got so curious i wanted to know if its good, decent, or bad. And thanks for curing my curiosity man, keep up the good work
Which is better between d3100 and d3200??
I stll own this camera what to upgrade to??prefer nikon mid range
Can someone explain why this camera sucks at taking pics at night or in the dark? Or is there something to make it take better pics at night? Im sorry im just not knowledgeable with photography 🙏🏽
Please help me sir, I have Nikon d3100 but when I record video the audio is very low. Please help
Can't shoot high speed sync..any help with that
Tell me the setting for video recording.
Where can I buy it im from macedonia
May I ask how to use an external mic with that camera
You can't. You can record the audio with the Zoom and then sinc (and lock it) with cam's audio. Then lower cam's audio to 0 or delete it.
👆 This is my favorite grab and carry camera for several reasons.
1. Its small compact and light. 455g. I don't use a strap so if I'm walking around this is in my hand. The ergonomics of this camera is close to perfect for the way I carry my camera.
2. 14.2 mp is plenty incase I capture a photo id like to make a 18x24 canvas copy to hang on the wall. You never know when that photo is going to come. I can't tell you how often I captured a great image but used my older gear with at 6.1 MP file and wish Id used something bigger.
3. The Picture quality. Everytime I take this out I'm blown away with how well it takes pictures. I use prime lenses 35mm, 50mm, 85mm. This combo works well.
4. The 3 inch LCD screeen. Remember this thing is small so the LCD darn near fills up the entire back panel. Very user friendly.
5. This is strange because it doesn't have alot of useful buttons like the D200 but I like the menu set up. I shoot 95% of the time in M,A,S priority and I find access to features easy to navigate with this camera.
6. The "Wow" factor. Everytime I take this out. I get a new addition to my ATF photos list. I just can't wrap my head around that. Its an overachiever.
As far as video. I own at least 10 Nikon camera models and I've never used any of them for video. So there is no negative here for me with that issue.
I just bought this for 250$ used and just learning
Does it have live view

I was wondering that myself. I snapped up a used one with an 18-55 Nikor on it for $210.
Hello, I’m planning to buy a used d3100. What should I look out for? The owner said it has 15,000 shutter counts and took only for vacations.
I just got one on ebay for £63 with under 900 shutter actuations, I stuck on an 18 to 200mm Nikon lens, and am giving to to my nephew as a present, hope he likes it.
Found one for 50 with 6000shuter 😀.. I mean common fully worth
My mom gave me that one, since she bought a new one (d5300) and the lens is broken, so I just have to buy a new lens.
