The phrase "The Angels Came" is so powerful and poignant. I was at my beloved wife's bedside when she passed. Only those suffering a similar lose can fully relate to this song.
Boy does this bring back memories! He used to be on the covers of all the teen magazines, very popular! He’s still alive at age 81 and I wish him all the best. Great request!!!! Thanks Adogg, watched it all with you.
Fun fact about Honey. 1968, when released, it went quickly to number 1 on the top 100 pop chart, and sold 1 million copies in THREE WEEKS. Now remember, back in those days, that song would have been stamped as an A side on a small 45 RPM vinyl record, with another song on the flip or B side. There was no internet, and big concert hall appearances were rare yet. So, you or I would have to have heard it played on the radio, ran down to the local record store, and purchased that small vinyl record with 2 songs on it. And we did....over a million in less than a month. A truly epic recording, and a message about life and appreciation for those who share ours, that will always remain timeless!
Bobby Goldsboro was an American pop & country singer-songwriter from the 60's-70's. "Honey" was his biggest hit but he had a lot of great songs including "See The Funny Little Clown", "Summer (The First Time)", "It's Too Late", "Little Things", "Too Many People", "With Pen In Hand", "Hello Summertime", "Watching Scotty Grow" etc. Some of his songs were performed by other artists such as Brenda Lee, Dolly Parton, John Denver.
My best friend had one of those portable record players. I can't count how many times we sat on the floor in her room playing "Honey," "Tell Laura I Love Her," "Patches," "Teen Angel," "Last Kiss (Where oh where can my baby be?" "Endless Sleep (The guitar!!!) " And we would have so much fun crying over the tragedy songs. I mean, we were in 2nd and 3rd grade, so tragedy seemed the best king of romance.
I will always remember hearing this for the first time. I was 5 and sweeping the kitchen floor and this came on the radio. I sat down and cried and have loved this song for over 50 years.
I was the one that made the request. Thank you so much for reacting! This song means SO much to me and my family. I can't say I know any other song by him, but this one...this song was the first record my grandma bought my grandfather. We lost her in 2016, and played it at her service. Unfortunately, we lost him in 2018, so he's back with his Honey.
I grew up listening to Bobby, via my mom (I was 3 when this song came out). I was disappointed by his reaction, I don't think he got it, or he has a heart of stone. I've been making the rounds of people reacting to this song tonight, and I saw one woman openly weeping when she realized what he was actually singing about (her untimely death). Despite some people's theories, it was not about his wife, it was written by someone else. My mom was taken by the "Angels" back in 2014, and I miss her every day. Sorry about your grandparents, like the song, I hope you have many fond memories of them, they will live inside you and your family.
A song about a widower recounting all the things he loved about his late wife, who died young resonated with a lot of people when it came out in 1968. Tearjerkers were still very popular in the 60's and this one definitely hits different. Bobby Goldsboro had other hits, such as "Watching Scotty Grow" and "See the Funny Little Clown". Some of my older cousins liked him.
I remember WAY back when he was popular in the TEEN magazines, yeah he was one of the teen heartthrobs in the late 60s early 70s... not sure of his age in this video.....The first song that broke my heart
As a preteen/teenager my bedroom walls were covered in posters of my favorite heartthrobs and Bobby was front and center! Posters/pictures torn from Tiger Beat magazines! Thank you for sharing and the walk down memory lane!
I was just listening to this yesterday, and looked up the lyrics because I didn't know if Honey was sick or committed suicide. I was really surprised at some of the listener reviews, saying that the husband/singer was abusive because he laughed at her, and pretended to be mad about the car. To me, they just had that teasing type of relationship. I always thought it was a sad, sweet song.
I can't hear this song without thinking of our dad. He was a softy at heart and cried every time it came on the radio. Needless to say, his two teenaged sons thought that was a hoot.
Earlier in his career, Goldsboro played guitar in the backup band of Roy Orbison, the Candymen. He said it was a pretty good place to learn how to sing a ballad.
He was in early 30"s at the time . Original was from 1968 check that out if you want to get blown away!! Done in 2 takes!! They took the first one!! Back when it was live 2 tape!!
It's been a long time since you did a Dimash reaction but he did a huge concert recently and has dropped two songs from that concert on to his channel. El Amor En Ti and Durduraz. The concert sold out to 35,000 people from 68 countries and was absolute 🔥
The fact that you think it's beautiful shows very keen sense. A little sad but more poetic than most poems I've heard, just beautiful, the last 2 verses are amazing
He was born January 18, 1941 and this song was from 1968. He would have been 27 here unless it’s a performance from a later year. But he does look pretty young here so this is probably from when the song first came out thus making him 27 here.
There is a channel on you tube called “13 Greatest Hits of Bobby Goldsboro. These are the songs I remember from when I was growing up. (I turned 60 in June) You may find these songs interesting as well. (Bobby also sang the theme song from the Burt Reynolds’s comedy Evening Shade (1980s?) and when my son was young there was a children’s program produced by and featuring the voice of Bobby Goldsboro, among others… called the Swamp Creatures of Lost Lagoon! (Featuring puppets as I remember it.) As I was watching your video it hit me that you are likely much younger than my son, and I am sure he has no clue who Bobby Goldsboro is!! Kyle loved it!
I was only 6 when this song came out in 1968. My dad had it on a 45 and that's how I learned it. It wasn't until much later that I understood it's depth. I had always thought that Honey passed from some illness, but after really listening to the multiple times her crying over nothing was mentioned, I believe she had depression and committed suicide.
If You Only look there is another song called "today" all you need to due is pay attention to the leric to many of the old timer song most don't ever hear a song just the noise you folks are starting to listening good looking your endeavors. Victor Everett Saturday July 29. 2023 St9:43 P. M.
This is probably one of the schlockiest tunes in pop music. Imagine teens initially falling for the sentimentality and then a few weeks later the laughing started and alternative lyrics. He has a nice voice but the song brought out the worst in some teen-agers.
Many thought this song as silly. Yet, I am sure, as they and I matured they saw a different picture. As most went through life we suffered the loss of our parents and close relatives. Ultimately the loss of one's spouse. I lost my beloved wife 9 months ago after 50 years together. My perspective now is much different than when I was a teen. Only those suffering a great loss can fully relate.
CAN YALL PLEASE SUBSCRIBE TO MY WIFE CHANNEL AND LET HER KNOW THAT I SENT YOU ua-cam.com/video/qm5LwTELzq0/v-deo.html
Done :)
Done brother

I cried just as hard as the first time I heard this. He's 81 yrs old now.
The most amazing thing about his performance is, he could sing the whole song without crying. I never could.
Boy does this bring back memories! He used to be on the covers of all the teen magazines, very popular! He’s still alive at age 81 and I wish him all the best. Great request!!!! Thanks Adogg, watched it all with you.

Remember those days.
Heard this for the first in maybe 1968? ButI I still cry to this day when I hear it.

He was from my hometown of Dothan, Alabama. I walked by his house every day as a kid on my way to school. Back when we walked to school. 😆
He was born in Marianna Fl. Did not know he lived in Dothan. But thanks for that. I used to live in the Fl Panhandle.

Patches? Oh yeah!
You'd think after all these decades that I wouldn't be crying like I did the first time I heard this song.
I lost my fiancée to cancer in dec of 2019. So sad. This is a heart wrench
I will always remember hearing this for the first time. I was 5 and sweeping the kitchen floor and this came on the radio. I sat down and cried and have loved this song for over 50 years.

Honey made me cry every time I heard it, I was in 1st grade.
I couldn't appreciate this song until I was so very mature.

You're right it is a beautiful song.
He did another great song "Autumn of my Life" as well as a few others.
Watching Scotty Grow was another good one from him.
This was my mom's favorite song sad but oh so good. I bought her the album for Xmas and it was always on.
As a preteen/teenager my bedroom walls were covered in posters of my favorite heartthrobs and Bobby was front and center! Posters/pictures torn from Tiger Beat magazines! Thank you for sharing and the walk down memory lane!
This song was so HUGE!! his voice is pure butter.
When I was a teenager I love watching The Bobby Goldsboro Show
I was just listening to this yesterday, and looked up the lyrics because I didn't know if Honey was sick or committed suicide. I can't hear this song without thinking of our dad. He was a softy at heart and cried every time it came on the radio. Needless to say, his two teenaged sons thought that was a hoot.

Oh man, that song makes me sob every time.
He was in early 30"s at the time . Original was from 1968 check that out if you want to get blown away!! Done in 2 takes!! They took the first one!! Back when it was live 2 tape!!
"And I Love You So" is a beautiful song as well.
Chokes me up every dang time!
Always makes me cry.
His song See the Funny Little Clown hits hard. Deep.
It's been a long time since you did a Dimash reaction but he did a huge concert recently and has dropped two songs from that concert on to his channel.
El Amor En Ti and Durduraz. The concert sold out to 35,000 people from 68 countries and was absolute 🔥
Very lovely song

Definitely check out Summer First Time another classic from Bobby about first love with an older woman.
He was in his early 20s. It came out later part of the 60s or early 70s.
Please do one on Bobby Goldsboro singing “save a butterfly for Bucky”.
Oldie but goodie.
He was 70’S singer

This is an episode where Bobby sang the theme song from Evening Shade. (He also wrote this song.) His song starts at 4:30 thru about 5:15.

You might like to try listening to Johnny Rivers or the Everly Brothers they both had numerous hits
WHAT??, you have heard of Bobby goldsboro Brother
YOU HAVE NEVER heard honey
❤❤❤❤❤
Ah now you have to do “Summer First Time” what a tune. Better than honey and probably his biggest hit. I think !
I dunno. Watching Scotty Grow was a pretty huge hit. Not sure what order they were recorded in tho! Probably just a matter of personal preference!
You have a nice heart…….
That was popular when I was ateen and I'm 75!❤

I always thought it was an illness also but your observations have changed my mind... very sad.

😪😪😪😪
Hands down, one of the WORST songs ever recorded.
He hasn't heard a fucking word of it.
