I've used part of a tyre as a chainstay protector (sun faded cube aim pro with my daughter's artwork featured on gmbn tech top mods) but the main use has been to cut about 30cm of tyre, screwed it to a bit of wood used as little container / shelf for random bits and bobs in the shed.
A few more great tips in the same spirit: - Use old tyres as grips - Use old tyres as shoes - Use old tyres as helmets - Use old inner tubes as condoms
Imagine spending thousands of dollars on a bike, picking out all your colored accent bits, your favorite saddle, pedals, a bright orange fork, etc. Then covering the whole thing with chopped up old tire carcasses and tubes. Wowie.
i often cut old tubes to small rings to get some nice rubber bands. They wear out over time, but one single non-reparable tube gives tons of rubber bands.
Another good hack is to remove your dropper post, slide a piece of inner tube over it, then refit and clamp. Zip tie the inner tube top and bottom to seal it all up, then ride all winter knowing your dropper is protected.
I like to stick bits of old cut up tires on my helmet until it looks like one big tire, this gives increased grip to the surface of the helmet, so in a crash, its not even a crash anymore, I'm still riding, just upside down.
For years I have used old tubes as clamps in building projects. They provide even pressure and are especially useful when laminating up layers of boards.
I think the saddle-grip one might be more appropriate with a road or gravel tread. For discarded tires with chunkier knobs, I use strips as edge-guards on shop tables and cabinets, doorstops, non-skid pads for workpieces, all sorts of impact protection in the garage/shop.
A inner tube attached from the saddle rails to the lower post of a dropper post work well for protecting the dropper stanchion from projectiles from the rear tyre
Most of these are awful lmaooo Old tyre on your saddle?? If it was necessary we would see commercially available seats with inbuilt tyre tread You also missed probably the most practical use of a used inner tube. Rubber bands. We never pay for them and they’re infinitely stronger than store bought ones
We used to use really old worn tyres as tyre liners, cut sidewalls off and any remaining tread (that could take a while!) and run it inside your normal tyre. This was a while before any sort of commercial tyre liner was available so saved me quite a few puncture repair stops!
Great recycling upcycling video .I use my old tubes as over sheath on chain link to protect the bikes I lock up with the chain..a 26 x2.0 tube is great as a down tube protector .roadie tubes gor soft clamp spacers like light mounts to frame or bars Even use them as garage door draft excluder . You can use them in the gmbn dungeon too
Use the valve of an old inner tube to keep your big bottles of soda fizzy: Make a hole the same diameter of the valve, and seal it using hot glue. Whenever you're done serving a soda, use a small pump to give it pressure, and it' won't lose any fizz!
cut your inner tube so you have a straight tube then cut once down the length so you now have a long flat . Can halve its width again as well if you wish for smaller sections .Wrap around frame with a bit of stretch coiling it 'up' the frame and then bit of electricians tape top and bottom , or a thin section of inner tube like a rubber band looped round and tied off., Can do this on any part of the frame and will save you getting your paint work scratched.
I've been using old tyres as chain stay protectors and frame protectors for 30 years before it was even a thing. The seat one I've done but it is unsightly though. But frame. Forks or handlebar. Just go crazy on the bike as extra protein of you lock your bike up with heavy chains and old tyre is excellent for that. Even makeshift grips or a extension to your mudguards. Be inventive.
Ill have to send a pic of my old foes fly with the downtube chainstay and fork bumpstops covered with tyre to the dirt shed, she looks super tanky like a mad max bike or summin 🤣
I was too lazy to do it but I was thinking about using old DHFs as a shoe sole. Those tyres have grip on hard pack snow where hikers are hopelessly sliding around :-D
I once used a old tire as a grip I was waiting for my new grips to arrive and wanted to go for a ride so I cut up a old tire and cable tied each end to my bars they worked well
you can resole your shoes with old tyres. You can keep them in place while the glue sets with old inner tubes wrapped tightly round. Also, inner tubes make good resistance bands.
I ride in bike parks with anchor lifts. They are make of hard plastic, so they tend to slip easily from your seatpost, so I cut an old tyre and put it around the seatpost to give it grip and protect it from scraches.
Some more useful applications to beat tires: Use them to protect items you put your bike on or against. Wrap them over the lip of a railing or edge to help protect both the bike and the ledge. Or against a wall where the handlebars or wheels touch and rub. You could even put them on the floor and scrub your shoes on them to help get the mud and dirt off.
If you want a cheap and hearty bike locking chain on the cheap, get heavy duty chain from a hardware store. Then either take your old tubes or hit up a bike shop for leftover tubes. Cut the tube, run the chain through the tube and now you won't marr your pretty bike up.
I use them to two friends, or we use them in Underwater Hockey to attach our stick to our hand. Before i also used them to suspend my bikes to work on them
If I had alot of old rubber lying in corners I would try and sew them together to a carpet or maybe a desk cover for workstation table? Doesn't people in the UK know how to recycle rubber though ??
Love the transportation tip, and maybe the saddle when needed. The rest is making your bike ugly so that the guy you sell it to enjoys a pretty bike, so not for me ;)
Me as a mtb user but used mostly on road and diy some parts to repair or something, the only one useful here was the downtube protection with tires. Ive used the innertubes as rim tapes, or covering something that could potentially be damaged or scratched like the stanchions... Nah im good ill never put a tire theead on my saddles, As a steel bike user i put the tire under my downtube, to protect the cables. Yes the cables are exposed under the downtube of steel frames thats common. I choose protection on my bike's parts than looks, lol.
Anyone try this mudguard? Being so far forward, It doesn’t seem positioned to actually stop mud from getting flung up onto the bike and into your face. Unless you’re riding backwards?
Did you know that Schwalbe collects their inner tubes and tires via their recycling system to reuse them? Just drop them of at a particiapating bike shop. [Not sponsored ;) ] And if you don't ride Schwalbe? Well, you might take into consideration, changing your current manufacturer, to a one that's more ecofriendly. After all, we all love nature and tires/inner tubes aren't really sustainable at all.
Have you ever re-used old bicycle tyres? What did you make!? Let us know down below 👇

I want the whole GMBN team to use these awesome hacks visibly in upcoming videos.
especially the seat trick!
Every bike must have an intertube mudguard
100% mandatory 😂

At the Global Condom Network channel, they suggested using old condoms as grips, so here we are.
Put tyres on the downtube of ur 10 k Bike 😍
@@paulmerzweiler5117 I have a peasant bike & I'm in no way tempted either, Schwalbe can find a better use for them than me lol
@@paulmerzweiler5117 That is quite popular. Maybe now it is going to outdated patent, but 2-3 years ago in european races it was normal.
That’s definitely for the other partner’s pleasure 😂
It’s not too late to take this video down.

If you didn't know better you'd think that was a feature length episode of Hacks & Bodges on GMBN.

That's a useful life hack!

I use damaged inner tubes to cover chains that I use to prevent stealing my bike, that way it doesn't scratch the frame.
My god. I'm going to do my whole bike in all of these and send it in to bodges and bodges
I like to stick bits of old cut up tires on my helmet until it looks like one big tire, this gives increased grip to the surface of the helmet, so in a crash, its not even a crash anymore, I'm still riding, just upside down.
this gives "keep the rubber side down" a whole diffrent meaning!
Strips of inner tube make great garden ties. Strap plants to canes. I store my canes for the winter tied together with inner tube strips.
For years I have used old tubes as clamps in building projects. They provide even pressure and are especially useful when laminating up layers of boards.

Rich, for the downtube protector just cut a V on either side instead of folding it over.
We used to use really old worn tyres as tyre liners, cut sidewalls off and any remaining tread (that could take a while!) and run it inside your normal tyre. This was a while before any sort of commercial tyre liner was available so saved me quite a few puncture repair stops!
I've used inner tube as a paint protector when fitting fork cages to my bike when bikepacking. Keeps them from slipping round too.
We use old tires nailed to large exposed roots on the trails for better traction
Use mine to protect the underside of the frame only down side is the build up of mud
Turn it inside out
Tyre sidewalls make great emergency tyre boots for your repair kit. Tubes are best for ranger bands, great for repair kit and bikepacking.
ah yes re-using a tire as a saddle. that one way to simulate getting your butt hit by your rear tire. 😂
For when you need to scrub your asshole on the trail
I cut old tubes for patches which I use for repairing other tubes or tires.
This is a joke right?
Fuck it may as well be. Such a useless video lmao
Has to be, surely

Inner tubes can be cut to make ghetto tubeless rim tape with inbuilt valve.
The last words are priceless. Please can we see the video of making clothes out of tyres and tubes?
It wasn’t an old inner tube, it was my spare. I used it as a makeshift sling for a guy who broke his collarbone on the trail
Someone at my local trails had an inner tube covering their dropper post. Best idea ever
Excelente la idea de reutilizar cosas y estirar así su uso. Esperando más videos como este 👍
Intertubes for ebike tow stap, used inter tube and foam pipe insulation for old bike rack.

Tubes can be cut into elastic bands... Of any width. Brilliant for so many things... The simplest most obvious use.
To say nothing about using old tires / tubes for *other* sports (firm grips on paddles) or simply around the house (ditto, on garden tools). ☺️👍🏻
Stanchion bump stops on tripples👍

I made one into a reverse cok guard to armor my bung hole from sneaky seat penetrations.

@@gmbn was some old tires I had I think they were schwalbe billys

I use old inner tubes to loosely tie around my big arborvitae, to keep them from spreading under snow loads. The rubber moves with the tree

Rich pulling a damn good Stewie impression without even putting any effort
Bike stand clamp cover to help protect the frame and paint.
I had rear triangle protected by inner tube :D AND BIG and HEVY! as hell big rear mudguard made of almost half of DH Kenda Hellkat tyre
Have to rethink the physics i know after seeing that front mudguard "hwack".
Put inner tube over end of a pump to stop the crux going on the end that fits in your valve.
Looks like Rich lost the bet and had to produce next year’s April Fools Day video earlier than usual.

Nothing like a bit of saddle knobbing to increase grip.

Am I correct in thinking GMBN are sponsored by ORBEA ,Are they not even good enough to use as a dummy bike to wrap old tyres around 🤣🤣🤣🤣
They look to knobby for the down tube. Instead of helping slide those knobs will catch on everything
All these zip ties also wear on the paint though.
Wrap the whole thing with tire with glue
During winter months I use an innertube cut down for my dropper post so to keep it clean and dirt free.
funny and useful video 😃 and I use the inner tube for the Garmin holder for more grip 😬
You had me until the saddle 🤣
I presume this video first came out on 1st April....
