A lot of people getting small problems arising
this WILL not work on version - 1.0.872.
this video is 8 years old and in the video the version is 1.7.1263, which as of writing this comment (1st September 2024) this version is STILL the same.
Version 1.0.872 means you have pirated the game, if you have a legitimate purchased version of the game. it will ship with update version 1.7.1263
As time has gone on, a lot of videos have become obsolete on existing fixes on how to get certain gamepads to work.
Entering the Era of Xbox Series X/S and PS4/5 controllers being cheap/already existing.
To get the ps4/5 controller to work on windows you WILL need to use DS4Windows. It WILL require some configuration.
ds4-windows.com/ (i use this tool personally myself so I KNOW it works)
With windows 10/11 Xbox One/X/S/Pro controllers are natively supported by Microsoft so it should be plug and play.
With OLDER controllers such as an Xbox 360 controller might need software like an controller emulator, but if you can pick up an official controller for cheap to reduce headache. I would MASSIVELY recommend it.
Keybinds can be a headache to configure but when you get them working correctly. they work and they work well. theres nothing you can do to get around this issue but unfortunately its an afterthought by the developers of this game to include controller support.

using plutonium + steam big picture fixes the problem for dualshock and dualsense controllers so there is no need for ds4windows

That’s an odd issue, I think it’s because there’s official drivers for the Xbox controllers

Awesome tutorial! Was able to get it connected to my Xbox1 controller but some controls are missing or in the wrong spots so that’s a bit odd. Any advice?
I find when that happens you need to sort out the binds in the controls menu in game, hope that helps

Here is a little more information for those who are having issues with their button configuration.
1. Go to steam, right click on World at War, hover to manage, click controller configuration. At the bottom of the window that pops up, click browse configurations. Click the top voted configuration for WaW. Neptonic is the name. It will preview the configuration, and again at the bottom of the window click apply configuration. Now that you have that as your configuration, click on your xyba(square, triangle, circle, X) configuration at the right side of the window. Click on the X/square symbol, change activation type to long press to make x/square hold to pick up/interact. Then click on the double press tab to the right, click activation type once again, and change it to regular press to make reloading a short button press for x/square.
2. If you need to adjust your ADS sensitivity, go to controller configuration as explained in 1, click on right joystick, click mode shifting on right, select Lt/L2 soft pull, a new tab for right stick is brought up. Change style of input to joystick mouse. Click on additional settings and adjust your ADS sensitivity. The way this works is you are basically creating a separate sensitivity when the left trigger/L2 is pressed.

On world at war for PC it doesnt have aim assist once a controller is enabled, only the console port has aim assist

The controller has to be connected to your computer in some form to realise the inputs

KinKzy yh I was having that issue then I switched over to a Xbox one controller and set the controls to default, entered the code and closed the console and it worked fine. I know for a fact my 360 controller works but it didn’t seem to work on waw

i just find it stupid that you have no way of having the xbox button prompts on screen, like displaying "press X to buy..." instead of the old bland white F key. I mean, dark souls 1 does it, it was released one year later, and its not like there was no xbox version of waw either, they are just so lazy when it comes to pc ports and there was not a single point in time where they werent.
They’ve always been “minimal effort, maximum reward” when it comes to the pc versions of cod
