I remember as a kid, sitting in the floor in front of our old black and white 13in. T.V. set and enjoying every word he sang. I wish could be at this standard once again.
He was one of the greatest male solo artists of the 1950's. Fats Domino, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, Paul Anka, and Rick Nelson. All 5 of these artists wrote and created their own music. Was Rick as great as the other rock and roll stars of that era. You damned right he was.
Sometimes it seems those who are too intensely adored...mostly rock stars...understand the intensity of that experience will ultimately kill you. So to save themselves they try to become movie stars. It's very common. Sinatra, Elvis, the Beatles, Rick Nelson...they all tried to move to acting. Maybe, just because they hear music careers are short but intense. But, when a plane load of pop stars goes down you have to wonder. ( Buddy Holly, Richey Vallens, etc.)
I genuinely love Ricky Nelson's songs not because he was an idol, some of his songs were very lighthearted and easy-going, Actually, he was more than good enough to rival Elvis.
What a wonderful, unique, and unforgettable voice. I am now aged 74, yet his voice still is so strong in my heart. Thank you rick nelson . Thanks so much for posting.
Love how he closes his eyes to feel the music when he sings! ❤ he was such a very handsome man with a beautiful, soothing voice, bluest eyes , most gorgeous smile and sunny, humble personality. I'll always love you Rick!❤
No one better!!! Well, in my case Paul Anka is my favorite, but both are history music legends. I also like the song, " Just a Little Bit Sweet" by Ricky.
I met Rick a few months before the crash....I was sitting across from him in first class on way to Australia....we stopped in Hawaii and I spoke to him while we were getting a ice cream cone....he asked why I was on way to Australia and when I told him I was a pole vaulter he asked about that....very nice.....and movie star looks....
I know one thing . The beautiful innocence , that defined the 50’s didn’t last long enough . It was one of those rare eras - almost magical- in human history in which while not perfect , everything came together in sweet harmony. You can just hear Eden echoing in the music .
How melancholic this singer is; i just discover him and i love him, his shadowy and soft voice and so much sadness; what a life he had, the success when he was very young but with secret heartaches hidden behind his appearence of good looking and gentle boy, feelings of abandonment; he almost never smile on the video despite all these girls dreaming of him; i think he effectively knows loneliness as an Teenage Idol, the song he sings so wistfully. In fact, he was a legend in his time (just behind Elvis Presley) with tears and lost loves. I love his way of singing. Something shy but with a lot of warmth and still hope in his voice...
I remember the end of the Ozzie & Harriet Show when Ricky did one of his songs each week. When you think about it , he was the first TV teen idol that I can remember . His music & voice were so much a reflection of the era that lives on in all of us.
This is definitely his life at the time. But he did find someone and had beautiful children. He'd be so proud of them now; they sing and are good at it.
It was Eddie Cochrin who was tragically killed in head on collision he was a back seat passenger in the back of the taxi whilest touring in Britain his girlfriend was not wearing a seat belt so he undid his to protect her
On this day in 1962 {September 7th} Ricky Nelson appeared at the 'World's Fair of Music and Sound' at the McCormick Place in Chicago, IL... At the time his "Teen Age Idol" was at #9 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart, nine days later on September 16th it would peak at #5 {for 1 week} and stayed on the chart for 11 weeks... Between 1957 and 1973 he had fifty-three songs make the Top 100; seventeen made the Top 10 with two reaching #1, "Poor Little Fool" for 2 weeks in 1958 and "Travelin' Man" for 2 weeks in 1961... He just missed having two more #1 records when "Teenager's Romance" {1957} and "Stood Up" {1958} both peaked at #2 on the Top 100... R.I.P. Eric Hilliard 'Ricky' Nelson {1940 - 1985}...
Yeah, this one, Travelin' Man and It's Up To You were the three I like the most. I sometimes think what pressure he must have lived under as a Teenage Idol. Must have been hard to live with the expectations.
Listening in 2018...what an amazing talent he was and good looking too! music like this will live on forever....I grew up in the 90's but simply love these classics. Sad he died in a plane crash new years eve 1985.

It's a shame but I think life gets to be so vile that we gladly give it up. All of this culture did give us a good base to face life with. Age. 74
.and our Friday night dates didn't begin until his weekly show was over!
Amen !.
I'm with you, cause I did the same.
Can you imagine being this good looking?
No bells, whistles or auto-tune, just a pure, wonderful voice!
Tango Bango no there was auto tune back in his time

You forgot Elvis Presley, great guy.
Exactly! ❤
I can't believe he died 30 years ago today! rest in peace Rick Nelson! may your music live and go on forever!
Oh, I love him, still!

The very best
Rick has to be one of the best looking guys that ever lived...very sad that he's gone...God bless you Rick.
Definitly, Rick is in God's arms & still alive in our hearts; for ever...
I wasn't born in 1958, but I agree with you
you obviously have never met me lol
As for his looks, Rick remained a good looking man decades after his years of hits. For a contrast look at how Dave Clark had his looks hold up.
@@winomaster Dave Clark was a good looking guy early on but now he looks like a freakin Klingon.
His voice is so soothing 😍
Exactly
Yess that's exactly how his voice is for me!!!! Soothing and calming! His voice never fails to cheer me up and put me in a good mood! 💓
Yes
Ricky will always be missed by those of us who grew up with him and his music! RIP Ricky, we love you! ☺☺
What a wonderful, unique, and unforgettable voice. I am now aged 74, yet his voice still is so strong in my heart. Thank you rick nelson . Thanks so much for posting.
Same age, Brian, and same impression. What a joy to have this great music at our fingertips.
Same age. I sit by my Dell and listen and my mind will go back the girls in the car the songs on the radio.
And I'm 72 and still as today his singing on his show and his 45 rpm record.

The first teen idol. And the best.
No one better!!! Well, in my case Paul Anka is my favorite, but both are history music legends. I also like the song, " Just a Little Bit Sweet" by Ricky.
Almost, but not quite. His first #1 was "Poor Little Fool" in 1958. Elvis hit first with "Heartbreak Hotel" in 1957.
And what a DOLL! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
He sings this tune with so much sincerity.I guess he really knew what he was singing about.Every verse seems to fit him.
True...
It just doesn't get any better. Ricky & Elvis . Just the best .
They were friends, too. Used to play touch football against each other.
@@watchman1178 Did they? Interesting.
I still live those moment seeing him sing his songs. He was everybody teenage idol.

I met Rick a handful of times. Always a good show and a handsome dude. He treated all fans nice. I miss him.
I was fortunate to meet him also, such a very nice man and a little shy, but very friendly. Great experience!

He was incredibly good looking and sounding! This is one of his best songs. Love the autobiographical lyrics to this wonderful tune.
Retro Rita Sad how Rick himself didn't like this tune or "Poor Little Fool" though!
+Retro Rita I totally agree :-)

Makes me think of Elvis!
He's much better than Elvis!
He was more than a pretty face..He had the talent to back it up!

I found this song lyrics when rummaging through my late grandmother's cabinet and well, she did have a good taste.
Beautiful voice!!!!
It's tough being a teenage idol. Ricky Nelson a true idol.
What a great song that was then, and still is. Ricky sang very well indeed.

Ricky Nelson was an extremely handsome man with a superb voice! So sad to have lost a wonderful man and singer early.
Man I wish I looked as good and sang as good as him. The dude must have killed it in his youth.
No he wasn't, he was noble and a kind respectful young man. A great example for many of us.
Beautiful voice and person! May he rest in peace. 🙏❤️

I'm skeptical. Why not try to find something we can all believe. If she had a seatbelt, that was her best protection.

Rick deserves a theater biographic , movie, not that junk for TV they did in 1999. Hell, the whole Nelson Family deserves that movie and recognition.
