It's hard to believe that "popular" music has sunk so low today from the level of this song from 1963. And Ricky was one of the best rockers around. I know 'cause I was there.
I am 73 years old and Ricky Nelson has been my favorite music artist since I was a young teen ager and still is. I have kept every album he put out, I also watched every show that was on TV.
I am also, im.78 have his music, that I cherish. Watching THEIR TV show and when he started singing on it, my friends and I went all in for Ricky. His face, his eyes, his charm I love his music always have. Always underrated. Garden Party was telling it like it was, one of my favorites.
At 82 and still listening to Ricky ! . This is one of the American POP songs that I like the most. Both Ricky and Brook Benton do a wonderful job singing it.💖
I am 74 y.o. I loved this singer and this song when I was young. Today, it holds a much, much deeper meaning of new love and the bruising of love lost.
What is amazing and younger generation don't know this - He loved to imitate Elvis when he was young and I read that he eventually met him several times and Elvis admitted that he use to watch Ricky's show on TV for many years. Amazing both admiring each other. Wow!
Everything about this is great: fantastic chord progression, James Burton smoking on the Telecaster, Ricky Nelson's vocals and the "Papa Gene's Blues" percussion vibe.
In the early 60's I idolized this man. How I loved the TV series with him and his family. How I loved to listen to Ricky sing.."I am a travelling man".... Even today I still revere his music . And nobody sings "Again" like Ricky does. He will always stay in my heart. R.I.P..
He said in a Variety interview that Ozzy told him his solo in this song reminded him of great sax player band mate from his band leader days. I really only came here in search of that solo. A lot of times the real talent is literally and figuratively behind the front man.
Love this song! Talented, handsome and clean cut. Just a dead breed. He may have showcased his singing on "Ozzie and Harriet", but he went on to record great songs. Dean Martin and Ricky singing "My rifle, pony and me". Just a great pairing of voices.
when Ricky sang on the show, somehow you felt you were part of it.his demeanor really draws you in.this a great version of this song......ricky was really a natural
Thank you for your response. I have always thought that if women can acknowledge when other women are beautiful or pretty, then men can acknowledge when other men are handsome. Thank you again for your response and the "lol." LOL to you, too!
I love this song, but my favorite part is when he says,"when we met, I felt my life begin". I love the way he says life. It speaks to me for some reason.Maybe its the way he says it. God, what a looker he was!!!
Sounded like fun! I was too young for Woodstock and ,SIGH, I lived in Arizona at the time. We had our mini Woodstocks in the desert where Alice Cooper would give free concerts, and then the cops would bust us in the evening. We were trespassing. So that was my Woodstock!
Forever my teenager years IDOL. I loved this guy and his songs. It has been over 60 years I have been listening to Ricky. R.I.P.....you immortal artist ! Talk about nostalgia....
Why did this HEAVEN SENT ADONIS have to die so early! Since decades I was looking for this song I heard on AFN or BFBS as a little boy! After more than 50 years I made it,only to find out that he died already in the 80s. Which brings a good bunch of onions to my eyes....
My favorite Rick Nelson song! I remember it so vividly from Oct. 1963, when it hit #12 on the Billboard Hot 100, and became the standard's most famous version. Lyrics by Johnny Mercer with music by Rube Bloom. Interestingly, written in 1940, the year Rick was born on May 8.
Lyrics by Johnny Mercer. The same Guy who penned this song, "Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer", AND "Moon River." As if this interpretation and those by the late great Brook Benton and Miss Brenda Lee weren't stately enough!😉🎤🎼🎸🥁🎅🏻🤶🦌B.W.
I was a toddler, but I remember him and I always had a crush on him, too. I remember my aunt had a crush on him, too. She would of been in gradeschool when this song came out, I believe. That's how I knew about this rock sensations because when she came over to visit, we always watched the music shows that were on.
This is one of my many favorites of Ricky. This is his original version that I used to sing and still do. Elvis did it later in 1969 maybe. They were good friends with each other.
Happy Happy 80th Birthday Rick! I can't believe you would have been 80 years old today! You one handsome guy and a damn good singer. Not a bad actor either! In fact pretty good. I wonder how far you would have gone if you had stuck with the acting. Anyway, wishing you all the best and I hope you are happy where you are.
When I saw Jared Leto in "My So-Called Life", he reminded me so strongly of Ricky Nelson. My sister and I grew up watching the Nelson Family, with Ricky understandably being one of our first crushes. What a beautiful, talented man he was! At least we have so much to remember him by.
My idol fo the early 60's. Anything he sang I loved., especially the great "Travelling Man" and the romantic song "Again". I still look up all his songs in U-Tuibe and listen to them. I feel so much nostalgia for those happy carefree years of my life, before Viet Nam and drugs descended upon our country..
He died 34 years ago today. One very sad New Years Eve. He would be 79 years old. Hard to believe. He will always be that young handsome guy who could sing up a storm. You are so missed Mr. Nelson!

I remember hearing this song by Rick on the jukebox at a stopover diner. I was on the way from South Carolina to Syracuse, NY....What memories ! I wish I could turn the clock back !
Still, and yet, Ricky touched my young heart, hus song's, the 60's, were so popular, esp., dealing with the crap that teen's had to endure through the 60's, the viet-nam war-human right's, and on-and-on-, I am thankful that I had my OLD LP'S, TO listen to, they gave me a feeling of support, when the Gov., did not!
I agree with you..I grew up in this era also, want to and am bringing some of this great music to the stage at a place we opened here in Pueblo CO.. I do some Ricky Songs, Fats, Jim Reeves..This was a great time in history and I have many fond memories of these times. Now some of the young people here are getting a chance to hear what this type of music sounded like with a fender telecaster, a standup bass and piano. We had a great crowd Friday night.
Look at him. Looks just like Elvis. Even sings with the same facial expressions. But he was still Rick Nelson, and developed his own style. R. I. P. Rick
I remember the night this played on The Adventure's of Ozzie & Harriet in the early 1960's - It was shown at the very end of the episode as an add on, with Ozzie providing the introduction to his younger Son. Ricky had already established himself as a young Television Actor and then seguing into Recording Artist, coining the media phrase "Teenage Heartthrob" ...
I sit here and sentamentally watch this,...My heart just hurts so bad as I think on just HOW MUCH GOODNESS we have lost in such a short time! the guy to the rightmost is James Burton. A few years later he would become Elvis's lead guitarist from 1969-1977 or "the Vegas years". And in 1971, Elvis also recorded this song. But this is still the best!
So long as we keep him in our hearts, Rick Nelson will never die. He was truly one of the great ones!
Amen...one of my very favorites💝
It's hard to believe that "popular" music has sunk so low today from the level of this song from 1963. And Ricky was one of the best rockers around. I know 'cause I was there.

I love Ricky too, but my favorite is Johnny Cash.
love bosa nova sound on this elvis cover
I got to be the opening act for Rick Nelson and the Stone Canyon Band in 1971. A highlight of my lifr.
I’m his actual nephew

Кем вы хотели стать в детстве? В итоге каким способом вы больше всего заработали денег в жизни?
Yeah but Ricky Nelson , unfortunately 😭 was killed 😭 when he was free basing on an airplane. So 😭
I am 72 years young and I still listen to Ricky Nelson and I remember the Ozzie and Harriet show. Wow that takes me back.❤😂❤😂🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😢
Ricky is an extremely talented individual. Unfortunately, because of his television background, he was underrated.
Yup. Underrated by critics and other ignoramuses.Liked by Elvis and the rest of us.
Memphis Dan LeLoLai
Those dreamy bedroom eyes...those pouty lips....I could watch this video with no sound at all and STILL enjoy it! {{SWOON}}
God yes.

Oh yes!! So handsome!!
What is amazing and younger generation don't know this - He loved to imitate Elvis when he was young and I read that he eventually met him several times and Elvis admitted that he use to watch Ricky's show on TV for many years. Amazing both admiring each other. Wow!
This is such an old comment but it makes me happy 💕
Elvis and Rick became friends and hung out and play ed touch football
And they shared the same lead guitarist, James Burton.
Love the jukebox now a days. You can play this music for the younger generation. Brought my kids up listening to this kind of music.
His music influenced me in my teens. A time of innocent music. Still crisp to this day !
Hello Mary... How are you doing?
Yeah I know this younger generation has no idea what good 👍🏻 🎵🎶 is 😭 and I maybe old butt good 👍🏻 🎵 🎶 music is good 👍🏻😊 🎵🎶
That's what a melodic guitar solo sounds like!
Simply excellent.
Just heard this on Ozzie and Harriet and had to find it. Obsessed with this song
Excellent version of this song. Ricky nails it perfectly well. Great voice too.
Everything about this is great: fantastic chord progression, James Burton smoking on the Telecaster, Ricky Nelson's vocals and the "Papa Gene's Blues" percussion vibe.

Ricky Nelson went to Bancroft Junior High School the same as I did a couple of years later. Love his songs and music.
I am so thankful my parents introduced me to Ricky Nelson. What a heavenly voice.
The legendary James Burton approaching his 80th birthday....
Aug. 21.🎸

Ricky OWN’s this song! James Burton on lead! Amazing! My Dad was his Agent at GAC. Saw him LIVE when I was a little kid. He was GREAT!
one of my favorite songs sung by a singer who could sing! Gone 30 years today but never forgotten.
This song by Ricky Nelson reminds me of my childhood days by the beach. I shed tears sometimes in his passing.
I love watching him sing. Heavenly face
Pretty eyes.
@@lianelayman7577 He was as Handsome and talented, as Paul McCartney.
The very definition of DREAMY 😍
then ul love wat im doing

James Burton on guitar. Rick was and had the best!
The TV version cut Jame's lead guitar verse by more than half, a shame.
yes they did it was neat seeing the fingering on the first part, tho...
I love Ricky too, but in my opinion Johnny Cash is the best.
happened more than once for UA-cam because of the length of the tapes i've been told
No earthly excuse to cut one note of the solo, it sells the song.
Proof positive the wrong people are making decisions.
Gone 35 years ago New Years Eve but never never forgotten! You were one terrific singer Rick! Thank you for all the music you left behind.
Great song, great voice and amazing guitar work by James Burton. Still listening in 2019.
he had the most beautiful eyes and a voice to match!! thank you for posting this vintage clip!!
Am I allowed to say that too as a guy?
He had it all! Looks just a great guy. Had the greatest voice I’ve ever heard!
So Cute ...Love it when he closes his eyes and sings...such a loss ... Thanks for the memories...
This is my favorite song in the entire world, and the best performance! Check out his sons doing the same song-it's awesome!
It's mine too! All my life. My mom had it on a 45 record, and I wore it out! Lol
I understand Ricky did this one cause His dad loved the song I believe Ozzy is playing on it as well
Elvis did a good version.
Kenneth Anger's Scorpio Rising and Buffalo '66 brought me here. What a heavenly voice.
Love this song! Talented, handsome and clean cut. Just a dead breed. He may have showcased his singing on "Ozzie and Harriet", but he went on to record great songs. Dean Martin and Ricky singing "My rifle, pony and me".
Just a great pairing of voices.

I used to sing this song in my lonely boarding room a long long time ago.
My favorite of all his early stuff.
you are so right, that solo riff was outrageous and to cut it out was balsphemy !!!
I remember watching the show and considering it a bonus when he played with his group at the conclusion.
I love this song, but my favorite part is when he says,"when we met, I felt my life begin". I love the way he says life. It speaks to me for some reason.Maybe its the way he says it. God, what a looker he was!!!
I love him!! And all of his music💙
It was a great time in real-time of Innocence what a shame that will never see that time again.
God, he was good! A very underrated talent. You're sorely missed, Rick. ( And you just gotta love ol' James Burton with the tasty, twangy Tele solo!)
Sounded like fun! I was too young for Woodstock and ,SIGH, I lived in Arizona at the time. We had our mini Woodstocks in the desert where Alice Cooper would give free concerts, and then the cops would bust us in the evening. We were trespassing. So that was my Woodstock!

A real all American kind of guy. Always liked him.
He was a generation older than me, but I still have a fondness for him. RIP gentle soul.
This is a very nice arrangement.

Why us!? They had Ricky Nelson and all we have is Justin Bieber...!
Many times God has a real sick sense of humor.
There are still a few traditional style artists.
