    Hi Robert. I am glad you fixed the 60, it is a lovely loco. I love those EFE buses and have a small collection of Isle of Wight Southern Vectis buses that remind me of all our holidays there as kids.

      Hi Philip,
      Thanks for watching and your very nice comments as always but the 60 as you saw in this is far from ok so more work required but hope its just a case of some oil required to fix her. I do think we put on our layouts items that remind us of our lives and with my cars and now the Routemasters I am happy that it reminds me of days (and Years) from the past. Hope you are keeping well.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hi Robert - Not catching your livestreams the new layout was a surprise to me and I look forward to following the build. I am sure you will get to the bottom of the Class 60 problems.
    Now the No 69 bus this was one that I used many times travelling from Leytonstone to either football at the Orient or to Walthamstow Central on the way to my aunt in Edmonton.
    Keep safe........................Cheers Kev

    Hey Robert, great haul. I used to go to college in Shepherds Bush back in the day and caught that very bus out to Acton and Southall places I lived at the time. Wow that brought back some memories. 17:15 love that shot across the platforms and various diesels.

      Hi,
      Yes its great that our hobby can bring back our memories and In the 70s I did teach in Lime Grove for a short time but as I had a car did not use the buses much then. I thank you very much for watching and your very nice comments and I am pleased that it took you back to times past, as you would have past my road I lived in off of Uxbridge Road we may have past in the night so to speak but I left there in 1976 so maybe not. As you can see in this video all is not yet right with the 60 so more work required I think. Hope you are well and keeping safe.
      Cheers Robert.

      Hey Robert, my time in Lime Grove was in the late 80's. By then there was an art school in the Lime Grove building (Chelsea School of Art who moved out and now London College of Fashion are there). I got to know quite a few of the students at the Hammersmith School of Building and Arts and Craft who we also shared the site with. I believe they have gone from there also. Great days carefree and windswept.

    Hello Robert,
    Well, it was nice work sorting out the issue and now you have a grand new 60 to run! It (and the other) look good running! It was very interesting to see the work being done next door, too. All's well as ends well, and if you got your money's worth and are happy... even better! CHeers for now!

      Hi Anthony,
      I think we can say unfinished work on the 60 so more work to do I just hope its oil thats needed it could be as she runs ok these things are sent to try us just like the lights in your loco but part of the hobby and is a good learning curve is it not. As always cheers for watching and your very nice comments and a super steam last night from you so well done on that. Please keep well all of you and maybe have a bit of a rest from all the videos you have been loading for us to see its hard to keep up!!!.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hi Robert. That screeching noise is coming from the ends of the worm drive towers. Just add a small drop of oil to the end of the worm gear shafts (there should be an exposed brass end and that should sort the problem. I have had many of these Hornby Class 60's, so I can help in most ways.
    Peter.

    I would try a drop of light oil on the end of the motor bearings. Good video, I'm sure you'll solve it.

      Hi Roy,
      The motor is not visable without removing the pcb board so will have to have another go at her. Thanks as always for watching and your very nice comments hope you are both well.
      Cheers Robert.

    Big fan of the class 60's Robert, still have 6 of them in my OO collection. Wrt the noise, it sounds like the lube has dried out, suggest stripping & cleaning bearings & gears etc and re lubing. Ben.

    • @robertstrainset6556
      @robertstrainset6556  11 місяців тому

      Hi Ben,
      Yes dryed lube does seem to be the most mentioned problem so will have a go at her and a video should come but a live one on the new end to end will be first. Cheers for watching and you very nice and informative comments. Hope you are improving in the health stakes and will be able to work again soon but at least you have had more time to play trains so not all bad.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hi Robert -Forgot to mention the Class 60 was the first loco I bought when starting the layout . I bought this as its name is Hundred of Hoo which is the name of the school my 2 daughters went to.

      More lottery chances as my 60 is the same name!!! Hopefully yours worked better than this one.

      Yes it does run well ( kiss of death ) 😂. Here is some trivia for you the Saxons divided England into divisions called Hundreds . And the Hundred of Hoo comprised our village Hoo and the surrounding villages .

    hi Robert, i'm not sure if it has been said already but i think its a dry sound... i would say at the end of the motor bearing..
    i have an old lima 60 and it squeaked and made the same sort of sounds... a drop of light / fine oil (sewing machine oil) on the end bearing ... great loco mate

    Hi Roberts, its the worm drives, take them apart and give them a good clean then relubicate and it should work like a charm. Any issues let me know. I repaired this same issue several times in the past

      Hi,
      Cheers for the info not looking forward to taking her apart as had a lot of trouble putting the bogie back in but yes will have a go so cheers for watching and your very nice comments and advice. A video will come but not until I have done a live one on the new end to end layout ATB.

      @@robertstrainset6556 unfortunately I have had to do the same with several class 50 where all the grease dries up or jams up the worms drives. Good luck and let me know if you need any help

  • @hotdogpilot6319
    @hotdogpilot6319 11 місяців тому +1

    Does sound bogie related...back to backs, gears, pickups all to look at. Running the motor without shafts connected will test that. Then go through bogies one by one and make sure no wires are touching shafts/flywheels. Also check brake block alignment. Sounds like dry/misaligned gears in the bogie though.

      @@robertstrainset6556 Peter's spares might do class 60 bogies complete if one or other can be isolated as noisy.

    Hi Robert, so I guess you oiled/greased the bearings on the gear tower which was stuck but did you do the other set. Also did you add a little oil each side of the motor. The noise sounds as if something is running dry with lack of lubricant
    Peter

      Hi Peter,
      I did squirt some oil in the other end but did not disassemble and the motor was not seen as I would need to unsolder the pcb board so bottled out. Cheers for watching and you very nice comments but will have to have another go at her.
      Cheers Robert.

    What's better than a Class 60 diesel? Earl of St. Germans and Cookham Manor in the opening and closing credits, that's what. I love the new intro and outro so much, I decided to record them on to a blank audio cassette using my trusty cassette-corder.

    Was the worm gear absolutely solid, lol? Seriously, its always good when you can identify the problem. May I suggest replacing the worm drive, thinking if it was seized it may have residue on the worm drive spindle creating the squeal. Could be the motor, but I would try the worm first, as they can create an awful racket.

    • @robertstrainset6556
      @robertstrainset6556  11 місяців тому

      Hi John,
      Yes the bearing was rock solid on the shaft but with the wd40 and a bit of work it was free spinning when put back so some more work required to see what is actually making the noise. Cheers for watching and your very nice and useful comments keep well and keep modelling.
      Cheers Robert.

    Hi Robert and a very good evening hope your well in n gauge the class 60 is one of the best pullers, sorry can't help with the noise other from a complete strip down, but does it make the same noise going backwards, just from the point of view some people in the past may of run it forward, I have had some older locos that are more noisy one way than the other will look out for your live video and looking forward to the big change. Cheers for watching and your very nice comments and a new live on the end to end will come but I will just let this one run a bit. Keep well and hope the bridge is coming on well.
      Cheers Robert.

    I had a similar problem with other locomotives that were stored for a long time where the oil turned into glue.
    take the gearbox apart completely, something is stuck, don't run it, otherwise you will destroy the gearbox
    She eats up the gears like that
