That Chrysler SSR was a prime example of wondering why no one at any point during the design and creation of that car, no one thought “this is a really stupid idea and we shouldn’t do this.”
It's honestly like the designers at Chevy / Chrysler were like "Aye, lets have a bit of a laugh, lads" and intentionally designed the daftest car they could think of, only for the top brass to love it.
They might be the only ones to design a convertible pickup truck, but I've also seen designs for a prototype Holden ute. Definitely looked nicer at least.
I don't think it looks that bad with the roof down, if it had 4 seats and was just like a giant bulky convertable car I think it would be kinda neat. And also at least it isn't the Mitsuoka, that thing is a car crime lmfao
In fairness to Mitsuoka, taking modern cars and transforming them into classics is not an idiotic idea. But the execution of the Mitsuoka Le-Seyde could've been pulled off much, _MUCH_ better
Better yet, Ford Model T came as a convertible pick-up. The Dodge Dakota was available two ways. You could order one from the factory, sure, but if you already had one, Chrysler was happy to sell you a complete kit to retrofit the drop top to any square body Dakota.
To be fair, the 1989 Dodge Dakota came as a soft top convertible. Why? Idk but it did. The SSR was designed by the same guy who designed the PT cruiser, it was supposed to be a call back to the old hotrods same as the Plymouth prowler, the SSR was supposed to look like the 50s chevy pickup, while the SSR wasn't a good car, at all, it was really important in relearning some old forgotten manufacturing techniques which helped out later in aluminum body panels.
even americans don't like the SSR. hammond even calls it "no nobody did" [drive the ssr] it was figured it was gonna be this super collectable truck and it *isn't* but the 50 year old retirees that GM sold this too aren't giving up their misguided hope
I love the way jeremy says mitsoka le seyde 😂😂🤣

In the video screenshot, Jezza looks like Jon Taffer.
And his car looks like a 1980s Zimmer.

Why is seemingly every SSR yellow?
Also James made a great example in this episode that you should never go on a car eBay type site while drunk.

Hammond, once again, proves he's an american.
🤣🤣🤣Jeremy always being charismatic and James being idiotic
My brother in law sold SSRs new and he couldn’t give them away 😊
