  • CORRECTION: Several advanced researchers/collectors have indicted that these Czech markings on the PP were actually Import Marks and not necessarily Police markings. We have not found enough compelling information which would cause us to take down the video, but do want to caution viewers that the markings on this gun could merely be import marks. Either way it is a rare variation of Walther PP from 1939.
Today we explore another variation of the WW2 German Walther pistols, the Czech PP. It was a German-made gun issued to the Czech Police. Only about 600 of these guns were ordered, either PP's or PPK's, making this example extremely rare.
The overarching question here is - Why did the Czech police order these guns from Germany when they had the CZ Model 27 that was already being issued to the police? Tom discusses his theory on this and also talks about Germany's invasion of Czechoslovakia during WW2.

Excellent find. Czechs would later make a updated version of the PP later as the cz50. Another excellent design.

I recently used your cheat sheet to determine that the PP my stepfather took from a German officer was a third variation Luftwaffe contract gun. I then found out that the holster it was in was for the CZ27. The PP fits like a glove. Perhaps the officer preferred a soft holster over the Walther hard case? Have you run into any PPs with CZ27 holsters?

I love the CZ 27 pistol, I have had several over the years, my militaria forum has a long standing joke on who can own the most badly finished looking weapon, my CZ 27 is currently the winner, the guns near mint original finish but the metal work looks like a ploughed field, I wish there was a more accurate way to date them, it seems to be early guns high gloss finish, bohemische legend on top of slide, then just the slide high gloss finish and frame military blacked, then even rougher metal work and military black finish all over, finally FNH coded guns, phosphated finish and CZ logo and bohemische removed from grips and top of slide.

Can a FHN model 27 in 32 acp shoot modern ammunition? I saw on a video that it could only shoot the lightest loads.
    Thank you.

I'm not sure it was a case of currying favour more they didn't have a choice and were told who to order them from.
