Is it just me, or does chucking coneheads feel like 5.56 rounds passing by? Seriously though, that rusty trombone…aside from sounding like something Sanchez….is some top shelf smallmouth medicine.
Lot of high water this winter here but my faves to tie so far Barely Legal, Peanut Envy, Rusty Trombone, Black Mamba. I come from bass background so streamers make sense to me more than nymphing
Thanks for the video! Could you do another following up with sink tips / rates and how you like to use certain rates in riffles vs deep eddies/banks? Love the videos! Keep em coming! ✌🏼🤙🏼
Took me a while but finally started fishing the unweighted wedge heads, D&Ds and the like. Heavy sink tip and a shorter leader and had some good results on our local rivers
i used to be an even numbers guy but for some things the odds are just money. my favorite rod for bass, carp, and streamer fishing trout is a fiberglass 7 weight with a fast glass action and a wulff ambush line. i run it straight floating a lot, but i also carry around a 50 grain sonar sinking leader (its a poly leader, just scientific anglers) and for swinging and stripping streamers its fantastic. its also bright red so i look like a sith lord (read: giant dweeb) using it so i like that too.
Hi Ben, great video! Just one question because I only tie pike or perch flies here but am going to fish in Iceland (where my brother lives) and there they seem to use a lot of wooly buggers and streamers like the zonker strip one with the same cone heads. Are these tungsten cones or what should I be looking for (apart from buying locally based on local knowledge)? I would like to prepare some of both types of streamers for next year. Thank you for your reaction!
Definitely grab a 7wt sometime, can be a solid streamer rod! able to throw a wide range of streamer sizes for bass and trout, at least that's what I use mine for
Do those articulates flies count as multiple hooks? Like if the warden checks in on you, how does it count? I know I've seen guys fish with a nymph dropper off of a streamer.
Yes, that counts as 2 hooks. Droppers off of streamers work real good if you’re into snagging fish in the butt, because that’s what’s gonna happen. #oldguidetrick
Hey I went and found Kelly gallops channel to see if I also thought with no relevance at all whether or not he could indeed ‘kick your ass’ as you and others have mentioned. Whilst Kelly does seem quite feisty and I suspect when he’s fuming he’d definitely use some choice language and angry histrionic’s . Never the less I think you’d be in with a chance with good head movement, and perhaps utilise a Philly shell to good affect and you could win on points.
Yes, I know… fly fishing in Ohio sucks compared to everywhere else. 😢 BUT 💯 percent on the white cone head Zuddler…. That thing KILLS with the smalleys here in the Buckeye state. And another 💯 FULL SEND on the Rusty Trombone (or the “trusty Rusty” cuz, well… kids are watching😂). That streamer was outSTANDING for big browns on the S Holston in TN. Two fantastic picks.
Kelly was a boxer is probably why people feel inclined to suggest his ability to beat your butt. 😂 also using same three streamers as well. But barely legal ... dungeon .... and bangtail
Been using the same 6 types of fly up and down the east coast of Australia for the past 5 years. Before that I was an idiot who thought you must match the hatch. Not true. Just learn to present better. Less flies to tie that way too...

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I’m feeling sad…
I simply remember my favorite streamers
And then I don’t feel so baaaaaad..
You called them bobbers. You’re my new favourite person.
What else would you call them?
Sighter, indicator, float
@@andrewwebster13you must be a huge fly fisherman.
@@Odhege8262 fly fisherman are notoriously stubborn to admit they’re just bobbers. They call them indicators usually to make it sound more adult lol

You can’t forget the Clouser … very versatile dude!
You need to wade fish Montana. I don’t remember the last time I saw someone do that.
"Just stop sucking at casting." Priceless! 😆
It's always streamer season.
I've never thrown a streamer out. Maybe I should give it a shot. My hat don't have a flat bill though.

This is the video we needed! Next we need is poppers and topwater
Galloup is like 5’8 150 pounds. I wouldn’t worry about him kicking anyone’s ass. Plus he’s a nice guy.
I dunno man he's got that dense montana muscle. His hands look like a bricklayer's to my eye.
Kelly is jacked dude he’d kick Ben’s ass any day 😂

Steamers are great for pike, bass, carp, and walleye. Don't limit the targets, because it's all fun!
I use the same flies all the time wherever I go, too! Catch plenty.
Ben- always carry white: my first musky take was on a completely white buck tail streamer. It was “insane” also “epic” and “sick”

Trout-mini dungeon, Smallies-clouser, Musky-Double Beauford.
Man that’s a beauty of a fish! Thanks for the streamer recommends, I’ll be tying some for largemouth. 👍👌🎣
An even-numbered guy - I like it! I roll odd - 3-5-7-9. Most streamers for trout get thrown on the 5 or the 7. What size Rusty Trombones do you like?
Ben, you’re my hero.
Thank you so much for making this video

Olive and copper go together like you and a beer.

love the Rusty T
That’s funny I’m an odd numbers guy w the rods lol
Even numbers is where it's at trust me 😏
Gonna have to tie some rusty trombones now
8mm Tangerine Bead is always my go to streamer….
"Purple Skunk"...
Even weight gang ✊🏼

Which one hurts the least when it smacks you in the back of your head?
Dungeon has cushy deer hair but 2 hooks so soft but stabby ;)
I am a prime number person. I only fish 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 11 weights
Did you say,”fishpole”😳
Sculpzilla is my go to any day
I can relate,
4/6/8. Odd numbers are dumb as 6x
Hell no, 5/7/9 ftw
4/5/6/7/8/9. I win.
4 for creeks, 6 for rivers, 8 for big bugs and big fish. Perfect.
I just read some comments. Do you Boo
Slumpbuster!
Did you just profess to being an “even numbers guy” then put forward a list of three flies on purpose? If so, your stock is up.
You noticed that too? Triggered my OCD in a big way. 😂
@@edpeter9411 you just triggered my CDO. It’s like OCD, only I can’t abide with it not being alphabetized

Ah man, i thought this was about twitch channels.....
you are adorable. the Sunshine State gives you some kisses. Streamers here are a bit different

White wholly crushes in the east here
Streamer Jesus*
Kelly could kick all our asses
Did you see him jam a hook in to his hand to show off his barbed hook removal procedure? The dude is hard.
Look at you acting like it doesn't matter its super relevant and the only thing we all think of.

All u have fished here is white streamers, seemed to have worked.
