- The fastest shrinking country ranking: which country's population declines fastest? Here we present top 20 highest population decline rates graph using WORLD Population Prospects 2019 bu UN. Currently the biggest population decline country is Venezuela. We compare the worst population poroblem from 88 nations exceeding 10 million population in 2019.
A population decline (or depopulation) in humans is a reduction in a human population caused by events such as long-term demographic trends, as in sub-replacement fertility, urban decay, white flight, or rural flight, or due to violence, disease, or other catastrophes.
Depopulation in humans can be largely beneficial for a region, allocating more resources with less or no competition for the new population. In addition to exempting the disadvantages of overpopulation, such as increased traffic, pollution, real estate prices, environmental destruction, etc. Per-capita wealth may increase in depopulation scenarios in addition to improvement of environmental quality-of-life indicators such as improved air and water quality, reforestation, return of native species, reduction of carbon emissions, etc.
Since the dire predictions of coming population overshoot in the 1960s and '70s, and many other social changes, more couples in many countries have tended to choose to have fewer children. Today, emigration, sub-replacement fertility and high death rates in the former Soviet Union and its former allies are the principal reasons for that region's population decline. However, governments can influence the speed of the decline, including measures to halt, slow or suspend decline. Such measures include pro-birth policies and subsidies, media influence, immigration, bolstering healthcare and laws aimed at reducing death rates. Some of these have been applied in Russia, Armenia, and many Western European nations which have used immigration and other policies to suspend or slow population decline. Therefore, although the long-term trend may be for greater population decline, short term trends may slow the decline or even reverse it, creating seemingly conflicting statistical data. A great example of changing trends occurring over a century is Ireland.
A long-term population decline is typically caused by sub-replacement fertility, coupled with a net immigration rate that fails to compensate the excess of deaths over births. A long-term decline is accompanied by population aging and creates an increase in the ratio of retirees to workers and children. When a sub-replacement fertility rate remains constant, population decline accelerates over the long term; however, short-term baby booms, healthcare improvements, among other factors created can cause flip-flops of trends. Population decline trends have seen long term reversals in places such as Russia, Germany, Ireland, and the UK, the latter two seeing declines as early as the 1970s, yet the UK now is growing more rapidly than any year since it first tipped into declines. In spite of more recent declines, it is very uncommon for population to dip under the levels shortly after World War II. Bulgaria and Latvia are the only nations with a net population decline since 1950, and half of all nations worldwide have more than quadrupled their populations. I think because women have higher education and work outside so they tend to marry later, moreover with the economic recession and incompetant government, now many young people decide not to have children. Being Buddhism country is also related, contraception are not prohibit.

If it wasn't for hordes of immigrants coming to Italy and having kids Italy would be the fastest shrinking country. Apart than immigrants almost nobody make kids anymore and young male italians often leave the country. In rural areas of southern Italy There are almost only over 30 adults,old people and immigrants left. Italian kids and young male adults are almost a rarity.
Its the goverments fault everywhere. If someone wanted to fix things they would help natives have more children, would ban abortions, stop illegal migrants and make propaganda from tv school ect ect for traditional large families. With the right plan populations can increase

Countries with strict immigration will decline. Places like USA, Australia, Canada, uk, France, Germany others allow foreign from all over. These immigrants have more kids than locals. Many on this list are leaving for other countries like I mentioned. There are other reasons like high education and costs to raise a child is too high. But if a country wants more people then open up immigration.

I'm a 34 year old man who lives in the united states. I don't want to have children unless I am totally financially secure and independent which I am not. I wouldn't want my children to have the same life I had. I wouldn't want to raise children in the USA these days even if I was successful.

The reason why there is less population decline in Europe is probably because there are more immigrants and refugees. Statistics show that the birth rate in many European countries is about the same as Japan's, and in some countries even lower.

Since birthrate trends are very difficult to change, and much of the next 20-60 years in terms of population growth is established, it isn't as hard as you think to figure out the next 80 years. They made several projections, this was their middle of the road, but we are closer to their more extreme projection now, due to covid. So while you are right that projections so far out will have its flaws, they aren't far off.
