Great video. You are so right about the fear of doing a long range flight but as you mention it just feel so amazing to see the video that is recorded and not losing the drone.
@filipehenry4340 for that flight I used x1 4000mah. Good for maybe 12 minutes only. actually haven’t tried 8000mah yet, (I will buy one in the future) but it makes more sense to just put that on instead for 20min+ flight time. Less messing around with strapping / balance the two batteries on the frame and connecting them all together.
Thanks !!! You are so Pleasant! I received my CHIMERA 7… and i Would like to make some upgrades further. I already downloaded your3 D BARDPOLE. Do you use 3 antenas , right ? Could you please Just explaine? My dream: DOLOMITES FLIGHT
Awesome You can do your dream man. I’m sure it will happen. Share the video with me when you make it happen someday. The print can screw on 3 SMA / SMA-RP style connectors. I use the middle one for bardpole and one on each side for long VTX antenna. Easier to pack into backpack etc. using the SMA system. might be better to do straight connection though, not all SMA is equal, sometimes low quality ones can effect your range. You can also choose antenna to hook up straight to your receiver or vtx (ufl) and pull the antenna out of the print every time you put it in the backpack. But you need to modify the print you downloaded into simple holes probably.
I'm scared of not seeing my surroundings while in flight (in a suburb). I have no clue how you're so chill flying fpv in nature haha. Love the video, got me hyped to learn how to build a drone.
Only those who immersed themselves in LR FPV flying understand the true meaning of your words, " every time I fly mid-range, long range my expectation is I'm gonna lose it". I fly the Chimera 7, with the DJI FPV System. In my opinion a superb machine. I was kind of frustrated when iFlight released the Chimera with DJI O3 System onboard, why? because I felt I should had waited a little longer to get that version of the Chimera, you know, it is not that I'm made of money. Thanks for sharing. Beautiful landscape.
For sure! Thanks for watching and I'm glad to know I'm not alone in my sentiment as negative as it sounds. But I guess we are prepping ourselves for huge crash $$$$ disappointment, and when the quad returns. Wow. Huge relief and amazing flights and memories. Yeah sucks to hear you just got the older model, but honestly I recently saw some videos from other reviewers, they said the flight controllers plug is still designed for older air unit (which uses less voltage than new air unit), causing 1 pilots chimera pro v2 o3 air unit shut off over a lake! Not sure how true it is, but first released stuff always need to work out some kinks. At least ours with auo2 is SOLID LR work horse.
I have Chimera7 and Chimera7 Pro. Neither of them have O3 and I agree with you. Since it's not cheap to buy BNF again. You can still upgrade your Chimera7 Pro by moving all the parts over to a new Chimera7 Pro V2 frame kit. It also comes with heatsink and O3 coaxial cable (extended length). I believe one thing is needed to change: extend the rear motor wires as rear arms are moved farther back in frame body.
Right, I forgot about BEC power provided on BLITZ F7 FC from Chimera7 Pro is inadequate. To work around, remove red and black wires from DJI plug and solder directly on VBAT pads if you're comfortable doing - it will power up AU directly.. it's rated up to 6S so avoid using 7S or higher.
Awesome flight man, I lost a quad too. Just built another 7" and put inav on it with 7" preset. Flys better then betaflight and it comes home and lands reliably lol I know how it feels the have trust issues with your video link

This is such a great commentary and helps me feel justified in my pre-flight jitters with the Chimera7. The scenery there is gorgeous..."wow, that mountain's kinda far"...LOL. Great flying mate! 🫶
And minor smoke in air from wildfires makes scenery more interesting and as you can see they add up colour overlay on different mountain distance. Gorgeous. ❤
pro tip, if u gonna ever have a mountain between u and drone just in case setup betaflight GPS Rescue to back at max reached altitude, and first what u do after launch is climb high enough so u can say u are above peak

I don't want to lose this quad haha (I broke or lost $3000 in gear this year alone LOL). I have a Flywoo explorer too, its sooo awesome and promotes lots of confidence!! There’s settings you can play with to try and minimize this but it’s best to be used in an emergency only and try your best to stay in connection at all times of course. Bringing the drone down? Hi, awesome flight footage and enjoyed your commentary along :) Did you print the antenna mount with bardpole or did it came standard with the chimera7?
Hi thanks! No the Chimera 7 Pro or any other Chimera 7 doesn't come with bardpole. My friend designed and print it for me. You can find it here :) www.thingiverse.com/thing:5819528
I am a newbie but have acquired a few drones. I just placed an order for the MOZ7 after seeing a friend fly his 7inch in person. The 7 inch is a next level but I think more suited to my style of what I want to do. I am not into tricks and flips so much.
Great video! I'm planning on building a 7 inch drone soon. Is there a benefit with using MMCX to SMA connector? Or should I buy a MMCX long range antenna to have direct connection with the air unit?
Hi Joey! Good question! The benefit with going to SMA is basically you can try all different types of antennas, OR easier to remove antenna, then fit the 7" into your backpack, OR you can remove the Long antenna and reuse it on other Long range drones with SMA connection. Other than that, MMCX to direct connection is best for signal/range can't beat that. For storage I guess you would just find a way to pull it out of the print, or a bendable post. Also not all SMA are equal, some actually do suck.
Dude! I flight a very similar spot here in Germany and lose LOS after i dive to low behind a Forest with my own build Chimera 7 (no PRO VVersion). GPS Rescue was not working correctly and crashed it over a River in some Trees. So i feel 100% what you are thinking on that dive.... Luckily I got the Chimera back and only 2 Props are cruched and one Motor was fried. I hope for BF 4.4 to fix the problems with GPS Rescue. My GPS Altitude Mode was set to Maximum altitude. But after enabling the Kwad was desendig and some seconds befor i was flying around 400 - 500m higher near a Mountain...... The Chimera 7 is my Favorit Kwad so far. After this trip i was building some spare once =O) What Props are you using? Looks like HQ 7x3.5x3V1S. Theese are very smooth Props with some lag of power compared to the HQ7x4x3. Because i can see jellow in you HD footage that i dont know from my own.
Hi! Very sorry to hear you lost your quad doing something similar! Was your quad quite heavily loaded? Sometimes I noticed my flywoo explorer, when very loaded and doing GPS rescue, instead of going to max altitude, it started slowly dropping altitude instead. Might be something to do with the maximum throttle/hover throttle setting used in the GPS failsafe settings. I'm not 100% sure though but its worth playing with. I heard some people also if lose reception, next time throw it into angle mode and full throttle right away. See if you can get reception back, and last resort hit gps return home. The Chimera I am using using 7.5" props HQ 7.5X3.7X3 (Btw, it also fits your Chimera 7 non pro version) The Pro version motors are different but arm length is exactly the same. The drone is very stable in the DVR, but I think the jello might be coming from the dji action 2 in body stabilization. I've been finding rocksteady stabilization is kinda strange. I have a gopro 10 as well and it doesn't exhibit these strange results but thats not a camera I'm willing to lose in the mountains..I use it for FPV work haha! XD
do you have any fpv experience? If not, Best to start by buying a online simulator like lift off or similar fpv drone video games on pc and mac. The drone is not easy to control forta beginner. Purchase the best drone radio controller you can afford/system and learn how to fly first using the game.
Hi Yair, actually my friend has goggles 2 (I have v2) but we haven't got around to testing goggles 2 for LR yet so Im not able to answer your question. But I heard goggles 2 can automatically/dynamically output up to 2000mw if needed (to a dji auo3), which is why they probably advertise 5-10km range as long as your antennas long enough!! Also much more beautiful to look through the oled screens of course. goggles v2 is capped at 1200mw with the hack but of course you get the flexibility to install different antennas like a patch.
14 satellites means you have 0 satellites on the DJI goggles. FYI Awesome video. I've been thinking about building a 7 but just haven't taken that step yet. Would like to point out that you have HUGE balls flying solo. Knowing a bear could roll up on you while you have the goggles on would add another level of stress to your flights. Sounds exactly like something I would do 🤣 Awesome video. Subbed EDIT** I saw at the end of the video that you had a friend. So scratch my comment about being solo 🙃
Thanks for the sub! Yeah, it would totally suck if a bear came up to you while you are flying (which actually happened to us in the past! Luckily it didn't chase us but we lost a landing pad and jacket while walking away from it) For sure, always bring a buddy with a can of bear deterrent spray!!
Please message www.thingiverse.com/kibby/designs - he designed it actually. But the exact one I have is not on his thingiverse page. I will let him know as well if he can upload it. Cheers.
I lost a few actually but the one I talk about in particular in the video, I was following a waterfall very closely 4km away and its beauty distracted me so much, I flew behind a mountainous merging hill and lost signal.
@@PattyFlipz oh gotcha! I was actually shaking while watching your video too, hahaha! What more once I complete my 7 inch build and fly it in places like that! I'll definitely chicken out! LOL!
Hi! It depends on which lipo you use, but the ones in my video, the 2200 maybe 6-7 minutes. For the 4000mah can be around 10-15 minutes I think. You can also get an adapter to plug in two 4000mah lipos and get 30min flight probably! I never tried though.
I wouldn’t call that long range , my 4”sub250 does 5km out . Long range is technically 10km out is on the shorter side of long range . . Also Dji can only do 13km till it hits its hard limit . Just an fyi
Yeah it could mean different things to different ppl. I mean there’s the ELRS development team that did 100km with a wing. What does something like that make us? haha For me personally, long range is anything that’s far enough that’s almost unrecoverable and something you cannot hike to get without taking many hours. I’ve done 5.8km too on my explorer . It’s way too far already. 😆 maybe we can call it baby long range practice :) all their manufacturers should change their titles for their DJI drones lol behold… the Iflight chimera pro baby long range practice drone!
Good question! I think it’s just harder to strap with it flat. The big battery is quite wider than the frame itself. a bit harder to tighten the strap and then battery shifts.
The chimera has a lot of "trunk" space. the 3d print in the back thats included with the quad has a tray like shape thats wide enough. You can slip your diversity in it, and it holds it in place.
If you tilt the camera up higher and fly with more throttle towards the horizon, you can fly faster 👍 but uses more battery. I guess this is my comfort level 👍
For sure! Definitely don’t want a bear to sneak up on us lol I did have a spotter friend with me but he only bothers me when there is a real danger present. Good thing more and more goggles (like goggles 3) are getting a pass through feature where you can check your surroundings. Maybe one day I’ll upgrade to that.
Excellent perfect flight very proud of you but don't worry I run into the same b******* here in Hawaii..... I could only begin to tell you the stupid people who come around me when I fly FPV here in Hawaii it's f****** nuts.

XD
How would you start flying long range? If you were a beginner and had absolutely no idea where to start...
do you have any fpv experience? If not, Best to start by buying a online simulator like lift off or similar fpv drone video games on pc and mac. The drone is not easy to control forta beginner. Purchase the best drone radio controller you can afford/system and learn how to fly first using the game.
Mate ? what do you suggest more for long range flights, DJI goggles V2 or 2?
Hi Yair, actually my friend has goggles 2 (I have v2) but we haven't got around to testing goggles 2 for LR yet so Im not able to answer your question. But I heard goggles 2 can automatically/dynamically output up to 2000mw if needed (to a dji auo3), which is why they probably advertise 5-10km range as long as your antennas long enough!! Also much more beautiful to look through the oled screens of course. goggles v2 is capped at 1200mw with the hack but of course you get the flexibility to install different antennas like a patch.
No bears!! Also awesome vid!!🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Thanks for the support Jon!!!
I agree!! XD When I saw the poops. I wondered. Horse’s or bear’s. Haha
@@kibbycabbit hahaha Or a Sasquatch?
14 satellites means you have 0 satellites on the DJI goggles. FYI
Awesome video. I've been thinking about building a 7 but just haven't taken that step yet. Would like to point out that you have HUGE balls flying solo. Knowing a bear could roll up on you while you have the goggles on would add another level of stress to your flights. Sounds exactly like something I would do 🤣
Awesome video. Subbed
EDIT** I saw at the end of the video that you had a friend. So scratch my comment about being solo 🙃
Thanks for the sub! Yeah, it would totally suck if a bear came up to you while you are flying (which actually happened to us in the past! Luckily it didn't chase us but we lost a landing pad and jacket while walking away from it) For sure, always bring a buddy with a can of bear deterrent spray!!
come fly with us sometime. lets fly local homie
Sure! I can join in when I can. You got a chat room or whatsapp? you can reach me at info@protofpv.com
Where did you get the TPU part that holds all three antennas. Been looking everywhere for one!
Please message www.thingiverse.com/kibby/designs - he designed it actually. But the exact one I have is not on his thingiverse page. I will let him know as well if he can upload it. Cheers.
I have the pro
@@josephlauria9848 ok grab it from the link in this thread. The file is for Pro.
Amazing! How did you lose your first quad?
I lost a few actually but the one I talk about in particular in the video, I was following a waterfall very closely 4km away and its beauty distracted me so much, I flew behind a mountainous merging hill and lost signal.
@@PattyFlipz oh gotcha! I was actually shaking while watching your video too, hahaha! What more once I complete my 7 inch build and fly it in places like that! I'll definitely chicken out! LOL!
hehe. Yeah! Good luck with your build! Hope you send it soon!
@@PattyFlipz Of course, I'll share. I'm waiting for a big sale before I buy the parts I need.
Nice! Where was this filmed?
Thanks! Its in British Columbia, Canada.
hi there, i really love to fly a drone. how much did you spent for that kind of drone assembly.
Hi! Go to the links in my description and check out the links. You will see the prices. This is a big drone though, there are also smaller ones.
Do you think that the drone is capable of getting a 8000mah accu with a GoPro in the air?
Yeah 7.5” for sure it can handle it 👍
Hi ! How long can you fly with the lipo ? Thanks ;)
Any reason why the batt was not set flat?
Good question! I think it’s just harder to strap with it flat. The big battery is quite wider than the frame itself. a bit harder to tighten the strap and then battery shifts.
nice video mate are you guys pimoy's? Keep posting nice videos.
Thanks Sam! What is a Pimoy? You mean Pinoy? Thanks again for watching!
@@PattyFlipz Aw sorry mate i mean pinoy yep! if guys are im glad your into the hobby im pinoy myself lol...
how did you connect the bard pole to the diversity ?
the nano diversity has two ufl connector points on the board. bardpole takes up 1 ufl and an immortal t can take the 2nd
@@PattyFlipz ok yea but how did you mount the diversity in the quad ?
The chimera has a lot of "trunk" space. the 3d print in the back thats included with the quad has a tray like shape thats wide enough. You can slip your diversity in it, and it holds it in place.
@@PattyFlipz yes but mine was an elsr version so the tray is a bit smaler .. is there any 3d models with bigger trays? :)
sorry Im not sure. Maybe check with iflight customer service?
I expected it to fly faster?
If you tilt the camera up higher and fly with more throttle towards the horizon, you can fly faster 👍 but uses more battery. I guess this is my comfort level 👍
👌👍👍
Thanks bro!
Chicken ritual for better LR successes :>
yay lets do that from now on b4 every flight 😁😅🤣
Why does Iflight's website take so long to display? seems sketchy,
Not sure? Maybe the graphics are too large? 🤔😂
You need a 10MM for those bears.
Lol!
Can’t help but feel the song at the beginning would be way better without the snare.
oh you're right. Would be way more smooth and chill without it 👍👌
Agreed, but still overall video is really great! Thanks for making this.
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
No way I’m going to fly without someone checking out my surroundings… even when I fly at my local park I don’t trust what people could do
I could only begin to tell you the stupid people who come around me when I fly FPV here in Hawaii it's f****** nuts.
ahah where Im at its just random ppl walking their dogs in all the most remote areas LOL.
Hi mate, it's amazing footage and all information you said. Thank you.
I have a some questions but is there any chance that I can send them to you by email or messaanger or insta? Thanks
🔥🔥🔥
yeah man! No problem. Email me at info@protofpv.com
@@PattyFlipz I will write tonight or tomorrow morning from Scotland. Thanks. I really appreciate it.
