William, have you any insight on why the soup spoons used to be so very large? It also seems curious to me that although the spoon size has changed, the "spooning away" has not. Your thoughts on this, as well, would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.
I would imagine that, as you only put the spoon to your lips and not actually in your mouth, it would be so you could get a decent amount of soup per mouthful. Just a guess.
This is another delightful clip, William. Just one correction, dear Sir. We are primates so you might clarify your statement about eating a banana like a primate.
Table "settings" are all well and good but, an absolute nightmare for left handed people. I suppose that is why I was punished and forced to do everything right handed right up until the late fifties!
My grandfather was left handed, and I was taught that the correct way for a left handed person was to pick up his cutlery and simply switch it in his hands so he could eat comfortably. :)
I put a dislike to the video because of rude hosts how can someone learn this way. If a child was watching and will think it is alright to act like this way. Learn from adults right I think in this segment I or another could learn from themselves. Table manners indeed I felt sorry for William trying to give advice and these adults act like little children. I am 59 with table manners and I would of never excepted another invite to this program.

Glad the ' setting of table is cleared up. We only say 'set' here in Canada. I thought 'laying the table ' was just the way it was done in the UK.

One video I saw stated that if you know you have a guest who is left handed it is correct to place their cutlery the opposite way around.
