You missed my favorite:
"I doubt we shall ever meet again."
"Do you promise?"
ABSOLUTELY SAVAGE
Said with such a hopeful that it's really true tone in her voice! I laugh out loud every time I see that clip.
I love that one! When Richard Carlysle was leaving for the last time. I wanted to applaud when she said that. He was awful!

That one line showed Carlies that he could print what he wanted they ddin't care
"You make him sound like a greek philosopher" is one of the funniest lines in all the series
Yes, it is. Very funny indeed.
"I must've said it wrong!" The only time the Dowager ever admitted to being wrong. Since in another episode she says "I'm never wrong!" LOL
To be fair, she never said that SHE was wrong, but that apparently her words were. Lol
my favorites are "I never argue, I explain." and "Of course she is (entitled to put up an anrgument). She's just not entitled to win it." "My dear, a lack of compassion can be as vulgar as an excess of tears."
"I thought it was a man wearing your clothes" is hilariously accurate 😂
1:24 😂
My favorites are not here: "what is a week end?" and "I blame the weather".😂
Why am I not surprised that most of these clips are of Maggie Smith...love The Dowager
she’s iconic for these things, I’m not surprised either
No one throws shade like the Dowager Countess 🤣
"Put that in your pipe and smoke it."
Legend.
One of my favorites...🤣🤣🤣
A classic!
My grandpa used to say that!
“If I’m going to the theatre, then I ought to change”
“Yes, *I should* “
Can you explain it to me?
I didn't understand it where is the insult exactly?
@@yasminy6703 she’s basically saying she hates what she’s already wearing 🤣
@@ewanoxborrow1024 didn't she suppose to say *you should ?
Not *I should
😁😅
@@yasminy6703 no, she's saying it the way older english people still do. When she says 'i should' she's basically saying 'i would if i were you'
@@RandomNessGoesMeowoooooh now I get it thanks. Damn that’s tricky
1:44 *BEST* line ever 😂
Thank you!
Going to miss her
Maggie Smith passed away today. Rest in peace. You made Downton Abbey a pure joy!
I like to imagine Maggie Smith isn’t acting in this show. She’s really so prim and proper.
"I'm so looking forward to seeing your mother again. When I'm with her I am reminded of the virtues of the English."
"But isn't she American?"
"Exactly."
I'm American and I always crack up at this line. And when she said "Why must every day involve a fight with an American?"
Can't imagine anyone else than Dame Maggie Smith playing the Dowager! I missed so much of Downton Abbey....
May she rest in peace
Oh I’m so sorry, I thought you were a waiter 😂😂😂
An epic, accidental burn, and delivered by a character who could not have delivered a worse burn deliberately.
Really miss the Downtown series. Could not get enough of it.
*Downton. 😊👍
@@markmh835 🙈Autocorrect on the phone....🤭
"It's wonderful what fear can do to the human spirit.." Burnnnn
Edith: So he slipped the hook.
Mary: At least I'm not fishing with no bait.
That's one from the very beginning that always resonated with me.
Maggie Smith is the greatest. When she dresses down the vicar for not wanting to marry William and Daisy, it's just delicious.
I loved that!
May have to watch the whole series again, tough job :D
The UK's Shameless is an absolute masterpiece as well, but not the American version.
"I always knew women were ruthless, I didn't think I'd find the proof in my own wife"
Oh, that's right Mrs Hughes does marry Mr Carson.
He definitely slept on the couch that night
Priceless. “Oh I’m sorry, I thought you were a waiter!!”
Maggie Smith 1934-2024.. R.I.P. great actress for many years! 😢
0:43 He must have been the last one to find out Mrs. Hughes is ruthless.
He should've seen how she dealt with Edna Braithwaite and Mr. Greene. She was fantastic.
the insults r so fine and courteous w.out foul words or physical outrage
Good point! No cussing or name calling
Nobody holds a candle to magnificent Dowager in terms of exquisite insults
Oh, the level of snarkiness in this show is top notch. I absolutely love Minerva Crawley. Yes, I know her character's name is Violet, but I'm a Potterhead and I still love Maggie Smith. 😊
It’s the dowager who gets the crown in this realm!
Favorite line, oh I thought you were a Waiter.😂
Best line, the Heart does more than pump blood.❤ 2:58
one of my favs is when she told the Vicar off when William was dying regarding his wages...
Rumour has it “put that in your pipe and smoke it” was the first ever use of that zinger!
My favourite:
Isobel: I'm a feeble substitute for the entire Crawley family.
Dowager: Mm. Yes, but you're better than nothing.
Isobel: How warming you make that sounds.
😂
I thank you so much for your superb videos! I love the UK more than my life!
More downton. Abbey. I’m. Hooked.
One of my favorites “Saturday what’s a Saturday “
weekend? i think its supposed to be weekend
I haven't heard "So put that in your pipe and smoke it" for years!🤣🤣
RIP mrs Maggie ♥
i nust have said it wrong - my fave
maggie smith is just wonderful ...xx
such funny accents! ^^
they're adorable!
(I'm not sure of the exact quote) Edith, you're a grown woman of some ability and reasonable intelligence. Stop whining and find something to do! My favorite piece of the Dowager Countess's advice. How many of us need it?
Defined insults 😆
"Put that in your pipe and smoke it" Wonderful
if that is the most savage this show gets, I may have to find something feral...although I do adore Dame Maggie.
They left out a lot of "savagery" by Mary, Mr. Carson, and Mrs. Patmore, all of which are bossy and opinionated at times. Also Thomas and O'Brien are jerks in the beginning. But they're British, there's not going to be much yelling.
We are all Educands in the eyes of the Educator!
The first scene, what are they talking about again?
Ive always secretly LOVED Downton Abbey! - and NO! - IM NOT GAY!! LOL :-)
Violet Crawley = savage
The weakest ones are said by Mary to Edith. They make her sound like a fish wife.
These are the most savage insults you found in the show? Really? You weren't looking very hard.
all they do is snipe at one another! there's really no dialog!
that is dialogue
a) dialogue just means people talking back and forth so by definition people sniping at one another IS dialogue
b) that is most certainly not ALL that they do. They are often discussing matters that are important to them and they do support one another.
c) many families do snipe back and forth in good fun as well as in anger. Their sniping, at least in my view, makes it that much more realistic.
@@butterflymoon6368 So you're fine with the "I know you are but what am I?" defence?
There isn't another show with dialogue anywhere near as good
Th3 kardashian s
No comparison. This has class
Love this show
"oh sorry, i thought you were a waiter"
