The original HMMWV was not engineered for the drive train & suspension to support the weight of the armor being added. We had a lot of problems with broken axles on our UP-Armored Humvees. I hope this recapitalization program is installing more robust components in these areas.
Reminds me of the days at Emerson electric modification to troop transport, building and adding tow anti tank weapons, 30 mm cannons, when they were first developing the hummers it was am general against dodge, we had both vehicles in building fir modifications, even helped build the first rapid response vehicles using a dune buggy
