Good finds, Gary. That date for the Madeira label, 1815, the monarch looks right, facing right for G3. The Prince Of Wales Own round badge was a regiment and also volunteers, atop it would have been the three ostrich feathers and "ich dien" below the feathers, in the middle would have been the particular division, a horse with bar below, on which it may read "West Yorkshire" & "14", or an "A" with a Christian cross in it, varied divisional designs, although it became the Yorkshire Regiment as late as 1958, it dates back quite early, I'd say 19th century rather than the POW who visited in 1920 and became Edward VIII. 1815 for the Madeira label, that's the year of the Battle Of Waterloo! Maybe a link there? I'll need look up POW Own & the wars, whether they went by or drank that type of port, Oporto, Portugal? No joke, Arthur Phillip, 1st NSW governor, was an exchange Portuguese Naval officer! The plot thickens, minds boggle. All from digging a nondescript paddock! Cop that, heritage cops! Cheers, Gabi of Narre Warren.
Thanks Gabi. I have been messaged already to say the Prince of Wales' own was from a regimental buckle, and I'm sure from a 19th century Prince of Wales, probably Albert Edward who later became King Edward VII.Don't know if any connection to the Madeira label, but who knows.A bare paddock can hold many secrets. Thanks for your comments. Cheers.
Exciting news! The inclusion of Rose number [767] beautifully symbolizes our collaborative efforts in this creative garden at CoinEra. Let's continue nurturing this shared space together! 🌹🌷🌼 Thank you for being an integral part of it! 😊💖
Those two elongated buckles look like the two ends to a snake buckle. I could be wrong but the y certainly look like it! Hopefully the snake is close by! 🤞 great hunt Gary. 👍
