Spent about ten years going to Aberystwyth each summer in mid 1970s to 1980s. Where Steve Williams grew up. A coastal town, there are steep climbs from the seaside up to the university halls of residence at the top. 20 to 25% just in the town. Get out into the Welsh hills behind and to the north and you have steep, narrow lanes that are often very wet, sometimes lots of sleet and snow but the snow rarely stays around as it's usually just above freezing. Perfect preparation for this year's Fleche. Williams was one of just two riders in the final group with leggings and full bad weather kit though he wasn't wearing overshoes
@dlpw9084 Lance armstrong would be mid range in 2024. Eddy merckx also. These young new cyclists 🏄♀️ 🚵♂️ 🔥 are just phenomenal. The equipment and diet are just on a different scale ⚖️ 😳
As a Minnesotan who raced cross-country skis (nordic skis for youngsters), the frozen toe was just a thing. I would never have mistaken that feeling for a rock. That rock was your TOE, my friend.
I ran 400m hurdles in college at a Division 3 school. I wasn’t that fast. However, one year our league championship was in Utah and the weather was nasty. I was happy (like Lance) because I knew it would affect some of the other guys who on any other day would beat me easily. Sure enough, I made the finals and ended up finishing 5th in the league that year. That was a good day. Bring on the nasty weather! ❤
I like George's comments --- 'great race to watch!' --- it is really what makes our sport so special....and the weather/Mother Nature mixes up the race beyond what we'd normally expect to finish in top 10. very cool as long as no one gets hypothermia!!!
I was there watching men’s and women’s race and it was crazy cold and wet much of the time. Much respect to those that finished especially the women where about 100 finished .. impressive.
Why especially the women? They rode much shorter and less time. Plus they have more fat protection. So you should really have said "especially the men".
If Trek had sent Mads P. 🇩🇰 He would have lapped the rest in this weather despite the climbs 😊 Vids of Skjelmose having Hypothermia was chocking.. tall skinny guy and even slimmer this year because of stage race training in mountains 😮
Agree with Johan. Tadej will remember last year's disastrous LBL and though he always puts on a relaxed and smiling face he'll be taking no prisoners this year.
Skjelmose is Danish. Didn't go well. Pidcock didn't do well. I don't know about the Dutch riders. All these people have these conditions because they are pretty typical in winter in those countries. MvdP is known to not like the rain and cold. In 1980 Hinault won LBL. He is from Bretagne, not very warm but in the winter a lot milder than The Netherlands, Belgium and Denmark. I wonder if people who are used to the cold are actually better in racing through it. From what I read on this in science, many years ago, it does not seem to work that way.
@@jonathanfreet9099 the riders are good but the team just chooses the wrong riders at the wrong times then also doesnt have cohesion. Sometimes the Spanish riders and Portugeuse riders are attacking one another. They took Morgado out for Fleche Wallon and for Amstel Gold the guy is orders of magnitude better than Almeida. He already got a 5th place at Vlanders. They win because they have Ayuso and Pog who are extremely naturally good. Pogacar doesnt even need a team. The art is winning with whatever team u got.
You are wrong and too harsh with the team. Morgado is super young, you don’t know anything about his planning for the season. You don’t manage riders just like that by replacing people on short notice
Come on man tell us who was clean in ALL the tours, we know who you pestered and such, cant recall the chaps name, an italian? I remember going into some flat stage you had stolen the Mallet and you personally chased him down....we know you doped but what about a motor for that effort?

Saw George out riding yesterday. He is still on a different level than normal humans, even at 50.
Is it that noticeable? He still looks strong on a bike 🏍. I
@royanderson3478 It's just different. A completely different level.

Best race this season so far. Great show as always guys!

Hey Lance, I am a painter and you are correct that black is a color. On the pallet it is a neutral BLUE! Keep on trucking WEDU.

Normal Welsh weather Stevie had an unfair advantage 😊
Cycling 🚲 is hard man sport 🥶🌧
Back on form. Good show!
Steve Williams - great American 100/200m runner, born 1953.

Love the show guys 👏

Last 3 April's in UK - coldest for decades. 3 years ago - coldest in 100 years. Not much said about that.
Global warming?
You missed the subtle memo… it’s not global warming but now “climate change”. Covers the gaps in science and logic a bit more smoothly…

Yeah that was scary to watch
We used to have summer holidays in Wales and the weather was just like that 😢

I hate to disagree with a legend like Johan but a cold LBL is not in Tadej’s advantage, mainly from a physiological point of view
Great offering!
👏👏👏👏👏. Que frioooo..!
That clip of Skjeldmose with hypothermia getting carried into the team car was insane to watch...
Brutal weather today
George, see you in Lienz, Austria half june !
Looked like normal Mid Wales weather......Williams is from Aberystwyth.....
Love those Welsh town names...
No. It is even colder than a midwinterday in Aberystwyth.
It was pretty cold in Belgium but I want to know the temperature in George's wine cellar.
44 finisher's says something...BIG!
2008. Toc was in Feb. in 2008 they changed it to May. Lance missed toc 2009. Injured.

I've done the hot shower thing. It's one of the biggest pains I have experienced.
Didn't get out though.
It helps to be a bit dumb to be a cyclist.
Pound for pound UAE is the worst team ever. They cannot get wins unless its Pogacar
Ayuso is solid and McNulty has had his moments.
