Hey there. Sincerely. It's a mammoth effort emotionally being exposed to so many different types of metal. Anyone else would choose a sub genre to stay 'in the pocket'. You've recieved so many requests to evaluate so many different genres of metal over the years. Props to you for being so persistent and knowledgable with what you do. Thank you.
hey Geebz, regarding 11:20 and the question about DMCA, OBS has an option to split audio between what is being broadcasted and what appears in clips and VODS. They don't do live DMCA takedowns cause that's expensive so if your VODS don't have the audio there's nothing to claim. You can probably save the audio from that split off source to salvage it for these clips on youtube I would assume.
Love the track, love watching you play minecraft on Twitch! Ya gotta do a slow burn of the new Periphery album, incredible musicality, third eye purple level yada yada lol. Unbelievable production too!
I hate the chat, holy shit isn't those guys toxic... Gatekeepers are the woooooorst kind of people you want in your community/fanbase. "I dont like this because it does not align with my very particular expectation of a song, therefore I will call it names and harshly bash it with unbased criticism like the bitch I am" This is why we cant have nice things anymore! VoM are Godlike, Red Fur is way too original and I can't stop listening to it!
The metal parts are kinda fun but this style reminds me of the time when a commercial for Ed Sheeran's new single interrupted a Pantera song I was listening to online. Anyway, thanks a lot for all your review Geebz :) Cheers & Aloha
I think all their albums are good in their own way. My personal favorites are Matriarch and False Idol since I love their new vocalist so much as well as all the new guitar work from Marc.
Veil Of Maya has two distinct eras of sound, beginning with the vocalist change in 2014. Clean vocals drive the sound differently. The old stuff is just as melodic in a different way. Their first full record "The Common Man's Collapse" has an old crowd favorite "It's Not Safe To Swim Today". That would be a great listen and contrast
@@psychoelectric They have their moments. Some of the vocal runs are a little too out there. Lucas is a capable vocalist. I prefer the era with Brandon
Veil of Maya started making music in the djent style before periphery 1 came out. Will admit I do prefer periphery’s sound overall though, they’re both awesome bands
Speaking of fire metalcore - Periphery just dropped their new album, I really think you would like the song Wax Wings, it does a lot of creative stuff throughout it's run time! Love these videos man, keep it up! Alright!!
I've just jumped here from your Isis deep dive (fantastic, third watch) to say please check out Belgian band amenra. Their songs are so full of raw emotion, I think you'll really enjoy. On terms of tracks to recommend, a solitary reign, de evenmens or plus pres de toi. Keep up the good work mate, I'm off back to the Isis video 🤟
man the new veil of maya stuff is such a good mixture of everything good about core-djenty music, every member of the band is so skilled and the way they bring new additions to their music with all the electronics, and earlier with clean vocals, in my opinion makes them one of the best bands in the scene right now, cause they are pulling off an original twist on the usual stuff done within the genre. i that we should appreciate things in general for what they are and not hate on them for what they're not, so all the comments about VoM being great back in the day are kind of pointless to me, cause their old music is still there, but it's just not what they are anymore, and i believe they're great at what they're doing now!! thanks for the reaction Geebz and hope to see more Veil of Maya on the channel!
It took a bit, but the new vocalist definitely grew on me, especially after the first time I heard his performance on Jason Richardson's Fragments. Eclipse is still #1 for me. As a drummer, those grooves are hard to beat.
On a completely different thing. Another fellow tuber has moved to your home state. Alex Hefner is his name , he as well as yourself do the react to stuff , stuff. He got me into watching the reaction phenomenon, which brought me to your great channel as well. Have fun and please help him learn to play guitar!. I told him to bring you coffee too! Peace brother
the new periphery album just came out and its a banger you should absolutely listen to it on the channel. if you dont want to do the whole album, wax wings, silhouette, dying star and thanks nobuo off the album are songs i think you will definitely enjoy
Yes, Veil of Maya is metalcore. And the majority of the "djent" bands (especially Volumes, Reflections, Structures, Veil of Maya, Born of Osiris, After the Burial, ERRA, Invent, Animate, etc.) are metalcore or maybe progressive metalcore. Even Periphery who are more "proggy" than most of those others are still generally metalcore.
Idk what this hybrid talk is. I've been in the scene for a bit and for us lifer we just see it as a more dynamic take on what used to be. Bringing the roots of metal to the foreground isn't hybrid as much as it is a musical movement practicing control inside its evolution. Metal is more jazz than it is rock. Get those disco and r&b influenced vocals to lead the chorus is an evolved state. Not hybrid. To me, using strings like Periphery does is hybrid.
Honestly as much as you like this balance, I'm telling you Geebz you are sleeping on Make Them Suffer. Round off your lounging with a little more Australian Metalcore. I would bet all the green in Denver that you'll immensely enjoy their flavor.
I kind of discovered their entire catalog backwards from Doom switch. Current favorite is "That's Just Life". Nick should be proud of that nice outro solo.
Hey Geebz, I know that you have too many requests but still. Could you give one more try to math rock? グッドバイ by Toe is masterpiece. Well, all their songs are amaizing but this one is just so good. Hope you'll like it. Thanks for the content.
Any song on "The Common Man's Collapse", "ID" or "Eclipse" is a classic. (Conquer being my favorite) After that... not the same band. Some love both era, I don't.
I should add I’m fairly bitter because I went to see them a few months back and they didn’t even bring their singer with them. So I paid to basically see an EDM show
After Eclipse they didn't bring anything new to the genre, before that, they were on top of the wave. They sound generic now, like any other core band with cheesy choruses.
I can’t really comment on the new Veil of Maya bc it’s not my style and I don’t listen to it, but you should do a song or two off of [id] and the Common Mans Collapse which are their two best albums in my opinion
Hey Geebz, just wanted to chime in and tell you to be careful when listening to non-ost music on your twitch stream. There was a big event around 1-2 years ago where a lot of big streamers had to delete a vast majority of their VoDs and clips due to them containing copyrighted music, and in some cases some creators were outright banned from too many copyright strikes. Just stay safe out there man, my recommendation would be to just stick to OST stuff on your twitch streams.
Playing it live is fine so long as the music isn't present in any VODs, they don't do live DMCA. There are ways for streamers to split the audio signals so they can have VODS without the music and still has them talking and stuff too.
@@Fenthule just to be clear, its not that they can't live dmca, its that they haven't done so yet. It's fully within their capabilities. But you're right, Splitting desktop audio to a separate track in OBS to not include it in vods is valid if not considering live dmcas. Although, it will decrease the overall value of even having vods in the first place since no desktop audio will be present.
I’d feel the same way if this was the first song I heard from them. Should definitely try other songs with Lukas, or pre-2015 with Brandon if you’re not into the clean singing.
Marc is so following his own path it's scary. I LOVE the riffs he comes up with!
i love veil of maya, their album false idol is one of my favs of all time
i got their logo tattooed on my hand after listening to this album

Veil of Maya- The Common Man's Collapse is worthy of a full album listen through
Uh hundred percent
I miss the old vom.
Yes. Yessssssssss 😅😂
I still jam that album all the time.

WAX WINGS!!!!!!!!!
My only complaint with the newest two Veil singles is the lack of Bass. The mix reminds me of And Justice For All

Marc did his best work in another Part 4!
I feel like there's a million bands with this sound and trying to replicate Periphery, but nobody is on that level

Minecraft is soo fun man, glad to see you playing it.
I'm into texture pack and shader packs, makes the game look soooo good.

Streaming on Twitch! Awesome
With a little edit that hooky chorus would be even sicker.

It's honestly like they're trying to spark a new sub genre. How are you going to be so epically heavy and still so progressive and clean?
