you know i just discovered them. i thought that hes def channeling a mix of SRV , some jimi and maybe a few others but SRV shines through. man what a great band.
Stevie Ray would have stood back in admiration - on of the very best artists, all the great blues riffs that catch us in the familiar, and then taking us to otherworldly sound .. . . and a band that amplifies Matos great gift - thank you for what you bring to our blue lives.
I've listened to this piece three times now...in a row. Jimi and Stevie may be gone but there is at least one person who can play at their level...MAN, this guy can wail!!!
Being the Blues fan I am, how in the HELL did I miss this band. First I heard of them was just the other day on XM radio Bluesville Station. Mato shreds that 6 string. I swear he is channeling Stevie Ray!!
Just saw him the other night in Lincoln, NE (07/09); blues-to-the-walls, no doubt; kicked ass! Of course, as part-Lakota myself, I also shouted out loud, and ironically, "Play some indigenous!"
I happened upon this video by mistake. Was the best mistake I ever made in my life. I gotta hear more from that guitar player. He owns that guitar when he plays.
Mato is one of the top blues guitarists today and on his way to legend status.I had the pleasure to meet him a couple months ago at the Toad Tavern in Denver. Not onlyis he an awesome guitar player, but an awesome human being.Very humble and down to earth.
They truly are indigenous Saw this band in Denver Co with My brothers wife and sister both from Pine Ridge Rez in April 2009. Outstanding live Blues show Mato kicks ass!
Would give my left errrr I dont know what yet but to find a band to join that plays this kind of "REAL MUSIC" Seems everyone these days have forgotten what real music is all about. Dont get me wrong I like other styles but I am always drawn back to Rockin' Blues. I can never get tired of listening to Indigenous thnx for posting this.
ive traveled hundreds of miles to see this band play im Iowa. it was a birthday jam mato invited my dad and family too. my dad even bought a pedal as a birthday gift for him and he made me give it to him. i was a kid but it still excited me lol. mato ur the greatest
They’re great. I found them yrs ago. Totally overlooked and underrated. If you want check out their cd LIVE AT PACHYDERM STUDIOS. This is from their dvd and they have a great vhs tape that they never switched to dvd format but it’s on utube. Live at Zona Rosa. It’s even better than this. Here’s Red House from the cd I just mentioned and the vhs stuff is scattered so you have to look up each song. ua-cam.com/video/xfqZB9bvM0Q/v-deo.html. Found it. Full video a bit blurry. ua-cam.com/video/ub-_78DuW0o/v-deo.html.
If we are talking early Indigenous (which this footage can be classified as), I agree. But Mato has become a MUCH better singer since. Check out his newer albums!
As far as I knew the family is Nakota and lived on the YS rez. The same one I am from. His given last name is Zephier. I'm not sure of the spelling. The first time I met them was at the Chico State University. I had been invited there by the AIM coordinator.... This was back in the late 80's or early 90's....
No doubt, Jimi & SRV take turns channeling this dude! But a hottie on drums renders me helpless every time! And what awesome "background music" to listen to while I fantasized away! Hey, don't knock it! Even Carlos Santana approves! 😜
Indigenous deserves to be playing at the grammys.
Mato has definitely picked up Stevie's torch. He would be proud....

That my blues family is how a strat should sound!
Anybody that down votes this group has no love for the blues and passionate musicians...
Nobody gonna talk about how good the rest of the band is...
That's the lead guitarist Mato Nanji's sister on drums. Incredible performance. 🔥🔥🔥
Mato Nanji is a wizard!!!
Just saw them last night in Safety Harbor Florida, his son is playing guitar in the band now, and also Mato's brother on bass, good show!
Stevie Ray would have stood back in admiration - on of the very best artists, all the great blues riffs that catch us in the familiar, and then taking us to otherworldly sound .. . . and a band that amplifies Matos great gift - thank you for what you bring to our blue lives.
infinitely underrated, heard their tracks on an online radio station and had to look them up. That's some playing...
I've listened to this piece three times now...in a row. Jimi and Stevie may be gone but there is at least one person who can play at their level...MAN, this guy can wail!!!

Mato is as close as you can get to the late great Stevie Ray!
Whoah.
The "cut off end" is Got To Tell You, which is in my channel aswell! So no fret :-)
anyone try this and your fingers will hurt. Props. Just nice. You give me pride in my father's people.
Other than the cut off end of the song, this video is awesome !
No doubt, Jimi & SRV take turns channeling this dude! But a hottie on drums renders me helpless every time! And what awesome "background music" to listen to while I fantasized away! Hey, don't knock it! Even Carlos Santana approves! 😜
