Sometimes Michael says things that comes off arrogant or egotistical but every single time he explains it, it's always logical and works toward the greater goal; winning. I respect this man, he is literally the epitome of confidence.

I hate to say it and sound like an old guy, but I just can’t resist: listening to MJ talk is soooooo much more interesting than watching today’s games. His level of intensity (even now), being authentic, being genuine, being able to articulate himself in such an honest, intellectual, interesting and engaging ways just draws you to him. Combine that with everything he accomplished and the way he did it - it’s almost not fair that all these qualities are combined in a single person.

MJ is so genuine as a person just like he was as a player, very inspirational.
MJ's thought organization is really impressive. He can express himself well, his choice of words is engaging and everything he says makes perfect sense. He knows exactly what to do from the very beginning and he still remembers every detail even though that happened 20+ years ago.

The “GOAT” debate is so much more than rings or stats. It’s intangibles, nuances, aura, impact, mentality, artistry, context, etc. It just baffles me how people could possibly think anyone is better than this man.
Hard to explain that to someone who didn't grow up watching MJ. People don't realise how huge his global popularity was in an age when the internet and social media did not exist

I grew up with MJ, but I know there are other educated opinions that also make sense. Anyway, the GOAT conversation can never be proven or won.

Except that the whole Jazz story doesn't fit. They played the Jazz twice that year in the regular season and Scottie played in both games and Luc had a total of 2 blocks in both games.

One of the things I like about MJ is that he almost never talks about skills or strategy when it comes to pursuing the top. He is so set on mentality. He really believes that the mind is the most important thing in the pursuit of excellence and I love that becsuse I feel like it's a lost concept nowadays even beyond sports and its so cool to hear a person who is the greatest ever at what they did validate that the mind is what you need to overcome things more than anything else.
There is alot of players in the NBA who could learn from that

YES. She arrived prepared, asked questions that were about Luc. But cleverly asked about Jordan's retirement in the context of Luc's post-pro struggles. And had the class and good sense not to bring up meaningless controversies.

The Last Dance is such a masterpiece in documentary filmmaking, and I love the additional Luc content. In my life I'll never see another team like the MJ-led Chicago Bulls!
This has nothing to do with The Last Dance, it was added to the title for clout. No biggie though, Jordan taught a generation how to win at anything. All we have to do is listen and watch.

Michael Jordan is THE reason I had MOSTLY A grades in college from 2000 to 2003 (I graduated in 3 years instead of 4). I watched his performance and modeled his dominance and continue to do so today at my job. his flu game had a MASSIVE impact on my behavior and mindset in life. he will never know it either! :(

Jordan was one of the top inspirations to the Millennial generation. We were very fortunate to have had the opportunity to see him play the game of basketball and win six championships in the form of two historic three-peats in eight years all while being very philosophical and determined never to let anything or anybody stand in his way of success each and every year no matter what the obstacles. I too model Jordanesque values in my jobs and when I was in school also. Michael Jordan was a role model not only in basketball but also in life! ❤

This was MASSIVE of Michael to do this. You don't see him do this sort of thing for a lot of people. Says a lot about how genuine Luc is.
We're talking about a guy who is probably a billionaire with hundreds of things on his schedule day to day, and he's sitting down for 30 minutes talking about Luc Longley (that's only the portion we see, the whole thing probably took hours to set up and complete).

What a great interview. Being an Aussie and not really knowing much about Micheal Jordan but his legacy, I’m blown away by his complete honesty and respect for Luc. As you Americans keep saying, he is the GOAT!

He is humble to begin with. He didn't brag and doesn't proclaim himself the goat unlike Lechoke James. He never once brag about his accomplishments nor how he's the greatest player of all time.
Obviously Michael has a soft spot for Luc. He doesn’t do stuff like this, and in some ways it’s even more significant that Air wanted to make sure Luc was recognized. It’s called RESPECT.

I remember one of the videos I saw a long time ago, it was MJ chewing up Luc for his misassignment in the game, MJ was furious at Luc on their way back to the bench, but as they came out of the timeout, MJ told Luc that they needed him to win. That's leadership.
Luc was not just a pawn in their championships run. He was a core piece.
He wanted to teach him to dominate. He led by example.
Fact that Luc is going on a Bull ISh tour against MJ is so wild after listening to this interview. Man takes accountability and spoke well about Luc.
I went to the no bull tour Melbourne show. Luc didn't bury michael or say anything negative about him. An neither did Scottie pippen they were all nothing but humble.
The way MJ speaks of him. It certainly would be upsetting if Luc actually went on the tour and bashed him.

I think the question is, for a lot of his answers, the whole point of this interview was to throw Luc a bone and say some nice shit about him, how genuine is he being?
This was a great interview. I respect MJ even more for doing this interview. The most compelling part of this interview for me was when MJ said Luc "mattered." That was really impactful for MJ to say that, and it makes me appreciate him more.
MJ always give great interviews. He just doesn't do many of them. There's a reason why whenever he does an interview, people make great memes out of it, because they're impactful. MJ crying meme, MJ taking it personally meme, MJ laughing at Gary Payton meme etc.

Jordan never failed to recognize the contributions of his teammates. You can really feel the gratitude he has for everyone who played hard and contributed to his goal of being the best.
I think Luc being left off of the last dance has been somewhat rectified with this. Kudos to Jordan. I have amazing memories being a 16 year old watching The last dance season. Just beautiful

It makes perfect sense for MJ to do this and not claim full responsibility for leaving him out of one of the biggest documentaries of recent time, which he 100% did. It was his documentary and he was the executive producer. He knows he screwed Luc over and this is him rectifying his reputation to us Aussies. MJ's a pro.

As Australian, who lived in Chicago for both threepeats, I can’t overestimate how proud I was to live in a great basketball city and to have a fellow countryman, a landsman, as such breaking such important new ground. @J G not a chance in hell, AFL will always and I mean always be the top sport in Australia by a wide margin. Basketball isn't very popular here right now. Yes it has its fans but the AFL fills 50,000-100,000 seat stadiums while basketball (10,000-14,000 when full which isn't often) and soccer 5,000-15,000) don't even compete. UFC is fast becoming the second sport here, but soccer will never be on the same level as AFL in Australia doesn't matter if it's 2050 or 3050 AFL will always rule here
Seeing Luc through the lens of Michael's competitive nature is fascinating. You can see Michael owning his own competitive post-basketball struggles and his affection for Luc. His appreciation for Luc shines through in his willingness to sit for a very, very incisive interview. Whoever she is, she knows her business, inside and out.
You can tell that MJ genuinely regrets what happened. He has a lot of respect and love for Luc. Hopefully their relationship will continue to grow.

Underneath his all-out competitive nature, Jordan is a genuine person with a lot of intellect and heart.
Totally as he said he didn't necessarily like being the way he had to be but that's the thing he had to be like that cause if not it meant they more then likely wouldn't have been as successful as they were.

Great interview. I am a 46 year old man, and still feel that excitement watching MJ do an interview like if he was still playing. That's when you know you are the G.O.A.T. The man is bringing out emotions from other grown men like if he was still playing in his prime. Luc appears to be a great man, and deserves all of his praises.
I understand, and I agree! Never have I, nor will I ever, feel anything remotely similar to that by listening to LeBron give an interview. It's a travesty that people even try to compare the two. MJ exudes greatness, mastery, brutal honesty, intensity, integrity. He is without a doubt the greatest athlete of my lifetime at least.

Michael has mellowed with age. Also in light of Kobe passing I think he is making himself more accessible so people will see the man behind the mythical legend he is known to be in basketball. It is good to see him now give his perspective. All those years of being hard and having to maintain that tough image had to wear on him. He is one in a million. He is the G.O.A.T. 🐐

I have never heard him being THIS self aware and so utterly understanding of himself. Of who is was as a person then when he was at the height of achievement at the highest competitive level with the perspective of a man 20-25 removed from that level of intensity and having all that time to psychoanalyze himself in, now, a stress-free environment [not referring to his personal life, which i know nothing about. I just mean things, pursuits, probably aren't seen as SO life or death. I see no better evidence of this than his time being president of basketball operations and minority owner of the Wizards. Things had not been good for that franchise really at all in his time there, which was right after his final retirement and lasted 3.5 years. He still had that same mentality he's referring to - a ceaseless desire to be involved in competition and be great. When he failed at that, he did not take it well. But he was 40, still freshly retired, and was still doing everything in his power not to have to shed and retire that "armor." Several years of self reflection and honest personal appraisal later, he is at peace with that experience as one of the most important chapters of his growth beyond and transition away from his life of being so directly responsible in shouldering the burden for a basketball team competing at the highest level. He, just from an outside observer's prospective - one that has followed and studied his life and career as someone not personally close to him ever could, seems as close to a finished product in terms of finding balance and peace as a human being can achieve
In relation to Luc: he knows that the very strengths of his demeanor, character, and personality were positive and 100% necessary to achieve all the success that they did were precisely the ones that made the relationships with more "Type B" people complicated at times and perhaps rubbed them the wrong way on occasion. He acknowledges that, and talks about how he changed his methods/approach with Luc without sacrificing an ounce of the message he was was being sent. Luc's lifelong empathic nature and open-mindedness, a willingness to adapt as best he could, combined with Jordan's newfound understanding as to how to meet him halfway meant they were ultimately perfect for each other and both benefitted one another from their strengths and weaknesses alike. Obviously, the results are undeniable proof of how successful all of it was; not only in terms of basketball success(es), but perhaps even more so in their mutual enlightenment as people
This endeavor to tell Luc's story in a thorough and honest way was sorely, even tragically, neglected until now. It is greatly appreciated.

Great interview! MJ’s a busy man and regularly turns down million dollar appearance and interview opportunities. For him to spend 30 minutes with Australian Story gratis, he’s clearly got a tremendous level of respect and appreciation for Luc. Always been a fan, but him doing this for Luc makes him even more of a legend in my eyes. Bravo!

I witnessed the 2nd repeat, and I can tell that LUC was a huge help inside. Lucs mid range jumper helped the Teams consistency of points.

MJ just spent 30mins talking about Luc Longley. I guarantee you he can do that with all his teammates. Casuals don't understand he didn't just push Scottie or Horce or Rodman. Every player that was on that roster got pushed by MJ so that he knew exactly what he had come crunch time. Luc was a pretty good fit in the triangle offense. He was serviceable as a defender and rebounder and his weaknesses there were helped by having Rodman probably the greatest defender and definitely the greatest rebounder at the PF position in NBA history.

How am I just now seeing this video! This is so sweet of him. He NEVER grants interviews. He’s famously known to be fiercely protective of his privacy. And if you watched The Last Dance, then you know it’s because of how he was consistently pursued and in the public eye… till the point he was driven to being alone in a room to get peace & quiet. So once he retired, he swore to keep all media away so he could enjoy his life. So it’s real big whenever he grants someone an interview cause that’s something he understandably doesn’t do.
The fact that this interview happened is a testament to the importance of luc and the rest of the Bulls to MJ. This was a great interview. thank you.

This is why MJ is the greatest player to me. He knows the burden of having others lean on you to the point of them practically taking you for granted. Can't take a play off, can't take a quarter off, can't pass up a chance to send a rival team a "message" as he says. Staying on top is a perpetual grind. The mental endurance is just as important as physical endurance necessary to be top dog against strong competition. MJ embodies the very definition of the common theme of a competitor "wanting it more".

I can't believe they actually got MJ to sit down for an interview about Luc's Australian story. MJ is a hard man to sit down for an interview. It makes him that much more legendary in a way that he needs to be chased just to have a moment with. It's almost like in Pokemon Gameboy games where you gotta try find the rare legendary Pokemon lol.

MJ is old-school. No social media presence and he keeps his life private. He would speak on rare occasions, but he has his life to live and his life does not revolve around his fans
His privacy and staying away from virtually everything is adds to the ora and makes it that much more special when he talks. It's been this and Kobe's funeral basically for the past 5 to 10yrs. He is in such a unique position, he was so good and such an icon that his presence let's say in media or commenting about current games, players, or let's say playoff series would over shadow the damn game. Jesus, ESPN has filled a 1/4 of the past decade hyping the rediculous boat Convo just for raitings. Every interview would just end up being about him. Then the next show they would break his comments down and debate if he was playing on the loosing team instead of a certain player they would have win instead.

What a great tribute to Luc and how amazing is it to learn that despite his “carnivorous” leadership style he did learn how to push Luc by analysing and observing him, a true marksmanship of a leader. Wow -- this ranks right up there with some of the best interviews I've ever seen. Ms. Shea deserves credit for her role in bringing out Mr. Jordan's insights, and letting him finish his thoughts. Players and coaches could learn a lot about team dynamics watching and discussing this.

exactly, to be HIM, and stay sane over 6 championships deal with that PRESSURE, thats emotional IQ big time. A lot of gifted dunkers and athletes have graced the NBA, none have done an MJ. What really revealed his character and maturity was the 3 years getting smashed by Detroit, yet his resolve and commitment only grew.

Wow this interview goes to show us that Mike is still being a leader in a way. The way he took time out of his day just to make small segment about a role player who may seem small to some of us (fans) but meant much more to him you gotta have some sort of respect for this man not to mention how he continues to give an explanation as to why when he “pushed” his teammates with his fierce intensity and how he meant no harm at all. Sometimes we have things we can’t turn off in our heads

Chan i hate to be the bringer of bad news here, but i think you're wrong. see the thing is, whoever you give jordan, in his prime, as supporting role, jordan would've been the same to them, pushing them to their utmost potential. and of course this is a team sport, but jordans mentality and leadership propelled these guys to levels they never knew they could reach. i would say that without coach jackson and the triangle, it would've been a different story for jordan.

All those players would have been great on any team. Bulls had a 55 win season when Jordan quit that one year.

From a guy who grew up in the 80's 10 minutes from where the Pistons played and hated Michael Jordon, as an older man I realize what an unbelievable honor it was for me to watch him play. In my opinion he may be the greatest example of "leader" in the sporting world I've ever seen in my lifetime. What a competitor and class act.
