Kind of hypocritical of IGN to post something like this, when just a couple of months ago, they bought a whole bunch of gaming related websites and basically control the way gaming and entertainment news is distributed and consumed
You're all missing the point, Sony is much bigger than IGN, EA is much bigger than IGN, Microsoft is much bigger than IGN, and they're going to do more damage to movies and video games than IGN ever could. Calling IGN a hypocrite while major multibillion dollar corporations cut thousands of jobs and make the same repetitive crap for you to buy from them is missing the forest for the trees.

The video is trying to say there will be less movies, and the ones that come out will all be sequels, prequels, spin-offs and that's it, because movie companies will buy up the theaters and make more money doing less.
Something tells me the only reason this video was made was cause ign was trying to buy it out first and got outbid by Sony. “But the spirit of manipulation and control of the industry are still present” at ign.
My immediate thought was 'Xbox slam piece?' Lol probably not but IGN is very opinionated and advertiser swayed Have only watched the start tho and Im xbox pc only player
It's strange that they made Alamo Drafthouse seem like a failing theater chain. They've been profitable ever year since coming out of the pandemic. Nothing is going to change at the theater level experience for Alamo, that was a major part of the buy out. It's business as usual.
Thr argument at around 4:00 assumes an entity like disney ends up owning AMC, Regal, Cinemark, and every other big theater chain in the world to earn that 100% box office return. That is something that will LITERALLY never happen. Especially after seeing $AMC stock, theaters are fine on their own
So what? The enormous, stadium-seating theaters with dozens of seats will show drab studio movies. Small, Indy theaters will pop up or still be supported to show the art house flicks. It’s Walmart versus your local grocer
Meh. Invest in a sweet set up at home. No more theater dissatisfaction. Was tired of all the nonesne especially during c 19 and ppl around you no longer enhance movie experiences they ruin them. Had an excellent experience with " my dune" at home. Own drinks, snacks and bathroom Lvl up.
This take is absolutely horrendous. “Why make 3 films at 50% of the profit when they can just make 1 tentpole at 100%?” is the same as asking “why write news about every new game on IGN when we can just write news for same game on all the sites we just bought now?” And the answer is also the same - because, just like your content, it will be significantly more profitable to put 3 movies at 100% instead of 1 @ 100% or 3 @ 50%. Shareholders want growth, not stagnation.
You missed the other half of the point: Disney will make Inside Out 3, 4 , 5, 6 and not take a chance on a new property if it means less profit. Why have three movies that combine to make 1.2 billion, getting you 600 million, when you can make the movie that grosses 1 billion, getting you 1 billion. You forget about the movie that made 200 million that was very well liked, and then you focus on the 1 billion dollar movie's sequel, prequel and spin-offs.
The first part of the argument is just wrong, you say they take all the revenue, but leave out the fact they also take on all the cost. Which since movie theaters of today have very low profit, that's a pretty big part of the equation to miss.
Is IGN finally starting to see that Sony is basically horrible? They haven't been hiding the fact that everything they do is for max profit, IGN just kept pushing how "wonderful" everything they used to do was. Glad to see you're seeing the light.

*NOT* IGN calling out another company for nefarious business tactics...
I'm super intrigued. What nefarious business practices has IGN done?

IGN irking about SONY ...yet IGN did the same to the Gaming Press , just to be gatekeepers of Information ...
For those who don’t know it’s a wine and dine theater that also plays vintage movies
Hope this doesn’t mess with my Alamo experience. Me and my wife love that place even got monthly season pass we got there at least 6 times a month lol
The video is trying to say there will be less movies, and the ones that come out will all be sequels, prequels, spin-offs and that's it, because movie companies will buy up the theaters and make more money doing less.
So simply put...IGN got outbid by Sony, now their pouting, the hypocrisy is actually hilarious😂
This is why we have monopoly laws to prevent such things and that's part of why United artist was originally formed
Headline: IGN buys giant bomb and kinda funny 😢

Can’t be as bad as how IGN is currently managed.
IGN actually having an opinion for Sony? Im surprised.
Guess the check didnt drop this week

lol. Look at IGN … pot calling the kettle black.
Great video Kim.
Is ign really talking about manipulation and control.🤣🤣
Great feature Kim.
Why IGN Buying Multiple Gaming Media Outlets Might Be Really Bad News
7's for everyone!
more real journalism like this... plz nore more puff/fluff and guess what we thing is going to happen videos...
Few but even bigger companies controlling more and more. Plus less creativity and risk taking in films and more sequels of fewer risky IP. All bad.
Booze has a 3 tier system to prevent this kinda thing.
Furiosa was at a whole new level compared to the movies mentioned here and yet not even 200 million.
sounds like some people got salty with the transaction
Great informative video. Kudos!
Ign.. why even cover this
Hey Kim, there is much recent example: India 👈
The film inserts fall flat during her commentary.
You don't buy it.
Yea its very nice ign bought the gaming journalist business... oh wait they fired alot of the staff within the first week !

there's less grocers out there than you think, and there's less independent movie theaters out there than you think.
Insert non-related clips into a UA-cam video is the first sign of a lousy writer/editor. Please stop it.
Ign bad take how bad?
