It really did play out; his scenario. He didn't exactly die on his board. But he didn't ever not have the ability to skate while he was alive. Not many will be as lucky.
I rewatch Grosso regularly, whether it's old footage, Van's Pool Party, or The Letters. Any footage of Grosso absolutely NEEDS to be published. He was, is, and will always be the Soul of Skateboarding. He is the reverence, the lawlessness, the emotion and the blatant disregard. Two days ago, one day before my 46th birthday, I saw a younger man pushing through my neighborhood to the end of the cul de sac. Gardening, with a glass full of bourbon, I watched as he began working to teach my neighbor's little munchkin how to roll down the driveway. I dragged ass in the garden hoping to find the right opportunity to go thank him for taking his time to teach this knee high little girl, who is unaware of Lizzie and Nora, the joy of skating. What we have all been a part of is nothing short of magnificent. Grosso for fucking ever! And I mean that. Find your inner Grosso. Appreciate what we have been given and never stop caring for it.
Personally my fucking favorite Weekend Buzz so far , two legends , Jeff is hilarious and John seems the coolest dude to kick it with, makes me like Black Label skateboards even more.
It'd be an interesting perspective for sure, although Anti Hero collaborated with Supreme last year so if anyone expects him to be all 'fuck Supreme' you're gonna be disappointed. Maybe.
Grosso, you are the man. The pain and fear u describe about not even skating to the store, just rolling, i get u. Im only 43, but for us now, thats "old." i get suicidal thinking about never standing on a board again, doing my only joy in life. And John n u talking skate "types", theres skaters n "athletes". Skaters are punk rock at core. Others are future stage parents, screaming "do a mctwist or no pony!" at lil jane or jimmy. I have so much love n respect for you n JL.
Grosso and the letters is one of the main things that inspired me to get back into skating... I love his brutal honesty, the world needs much more of that. RIP Grosso and thanks!
I know, I started watching the Van's tribute and had to stop. Started rewatching these old shows and I was thinking the same thing. Lucero lost his little brother.
@@frankiew311 I don't think he was jealous. He just wanted more respected for Lance because that's his friend. And rightfully so, I kinda felt like they downplayed Lance's contributions to skateboarding.
Because by and large, younger skaters don't have the knowledge NOR the respect of the guys who pioneered their sport and made what they're reaping the benefits of, possible. They're all a bunch of stoned morons, who glorify getting drunk and high. It seems to me, that's a larger part of the whole scene now, than the skating itself. John Lucero is a fucking legend. You're welcome.
Forever grosso!! I started watching love letters after breaking my back from a drunken escapade climbing a tree and grosso's words never rang truer, all I could think about was the fact I nearly lost use of my legs and all I wanted to do was skate. The hunger for living and get back on my wooden toy kept me alive. If I couldn't skate I didn't want to be here.
Brink is legit. He's so good at starting legit conversations, asking good questions, and getting perspectives from the people all of us long time skaters want to hear talk. Thanks Rob!
Great comment by Grosso "It's my truth. Doesn't make it the truth." So many people think because someone makes a claim or gives an opinion that's loud, kinda makes sense, and is a bit against the grain, it must be the truth. Not so.
17:47 is something I`ve been wanting to be told for a while now, especially in my generation, where people nowadays skate and its so much more accessible, and they get good but they eventually quit for whatever reason, mostly cuz the like sports more, then theres the straight skaters like me that just don't give a shit about sports and just want to skate and actually make something out of it
Grosso and Lucero are classics. And leave it to Grosso to break it down to brass tacks. That last rant about if he couldn't skate anymore really hits home.
Hey Jeff, hope you have been able to get on your board man. I just want to say I have had two back surgeries at 40 yrs and still skate despite the pain. I know you will do the same. What I learned is Ill have pain anyway, Might as well be shredding. That is it.
Ive been avoiding anything skate related for months because of back problems... had to watch this tho. Awesome interview! Grosso, lets here more about the rabbit hole of back injuries and the struggle to get back on the wooden toy!!
Hell yeah, love when Grosso calls people out on their fake ass shit. Lance is rad, adapted during the whole small wheels big pants thing and still kept ripping vert until it came back into the public eye again. I want to see more of Grosso just talking, skating also, but he's totally unabashed and isn't scared to tell embarrassing story about himself.
Google very old contest footage of Lucero and see how Gnar he was and ahead of his time....impressive stuff Lucero!!! **I saw a early 1980's contest and they all looked stiff and upright and here comes Lucero doing these backside pivots off the coping of quarter pipes and launch ramps INSTEAD of doing gay melon grabs etc.... **INSTANTLY reminds me of The Gonz doing 180 grinds and half cabs 50/50 and noseslides when everyone like Cab,Hosie,Danforth we're all just railsliding the 200 foot railslide.. The innovation was soo ahead of it's time. Just like The Boss and Ali Boulala frontside flips we're ahead of theyre time... just thought i'd throw that out there for Lucero...
"There's too many of us, there's too many of us, there's too many of us, there's too many of us... Let's start a war! Jack up the DOW Jones!" Great reference. Grosso's the shit. As is Lucero and Dill.
Watched Grosso and Lucero in the magazines growing up love the history I’ll be 47 this year just bought a new setup people are like why would you do that at your age, “FUCK YOU “ that’s why good stuff guys enjoying it
Grosso and the letters inspired me to get back into skating 8 months ago at 47... some people were totally negative and tried to guilt trip me saying it’s irresponsible at ‘my age’. Hence they’re not friends any more! I only wish I’d never stopped...but it’s good to be back...
Having seen the Bones Brigade doc several times, it's obvious Grosso had an agenda. I love the guy but I don't think his perspective is objective on this. Rodney at no point directly "claimed" to be the father of street skating in that doc. And the clip Grosso showed in Loveletters to make his point did not support his position. He saw what he wanted to see. And he's shitting on the other Bones guys for not blowing Lance (whom I love dearly), when Lance spends the entire doc shitting on himself and making himself out to be the worst pro skater ever. Vallely had a pretty heartfelt tribute to Lance in that film. Grosso has a history with Powell Peralta and I can't help but think his opinion on the doc is derivative of that, possibly some bitterness there. But the fact is that the only one shitting on Lance in that film was Lance. In fact, he beat that horse to death to the point of tears. The Bones Brigade was a global phenomenon and everybody knows it. There's nothing wrong the Bones guys discussing it and how it affected them anymore than it's not wrong for Hall of Fame pro athletes to talk about the reality of their careers. And it's not like they didn't get other viewpoints. Guys like Duane Peters, Hosoi, Alva, and Steve Olson contributed to that thing. And yeah, Lucero, they kinda WERE the shit. The contest results illustrate that. They flat out kicked everybody's asses the vast majority of the time. And often times they would do it in other pro's home parks. McGill would be doing 540's in Combi at Upland while Salba would be doing backside airs. It's a fact. Love ya, Grosso, but you're in the wrong on that one I think.
The doc didn't shit on Lance as much as Stacy allowed Lance to shit on himself. Every other guy on the team praised each other and had praise heaped on them, except for Lance. He shit on himself and nobody corrected him, nobody praised him. They just pretended that he was the clown kid who only made pro because he was the featured guy in the joiner scenes of BBVS. Lance was a pro before joining the BB. I assume you were around in those days, so you know. Lance was one of the best skaters of the era and one of the best of all time. Sure Tony was "the best", Cab was the guy Tony wanted to emulate, and McGill was the McTwist guy. But to have them act like Lance was lucky to be on the team, that's not reality. Lance was/is better than McGill on vert, he was better than both McGill and Tony on street. He had tricks AND style, something not all of them can claim. We all know Lance wasn't just the "clown prince" of skateboarding, but the doc sort of painted that image of him. I get it, the two most talented, in their respective disciplines, were Tony and Rodney. So it stands to reason those two would get the bulk of the praise. But to almost dismiss Lance and his overall contributions to skating just shits all over who he really was and continues to be.
cberbes - There was one thing (and REAL important one, at that... alongside Lucero and Blender) Lance did real great that contributes to skateboarding, to this day: **He made skateboarding fun**. Regardless if he “sold it out” on the BBVS, he did it SO well, authentic, genuine, and believable, that it made you want to go out there and skateboard.
@JezBollah 667 Lance's humor and sense of fun has always shined through in his skating but respectfully I don't think you skate like Lance without being super focused and yes, competitive. Take the McTwist for example. In an interview years back Lance talked about his battle with that trick and what motivated him to do it no matter what. He even quit skating over the McTwist and took up tennis for a minute but couldn't stay 'quit' because he had to pull off the McTwist no matter what. He was driven and he did it. Not a lot of skater's in the 80's...or even now...ever landed that trick once let alone consistently. That's focus, that's competitive spirit or nothing is.
ArkhamDrifter Mike done the McTwist in Sweden for the first time at some skate camp. Lance was there as well and he told Lance he landed it. Lance told him to show him and Mike did it. Lance padded up and went for it. He nearly broke his back at the first try. Lance is everything I love about skating and if he wants to shit on himself that’s fine by me.
man, Grasso apologizing when there’s no need for apologies in skateboarding...he was the honest voice that every industry needs. a voice of reason. you get one apology and look ten more could be needed... ha, right on Grasso
the same things happened in surfing, where you almost get like a jock reject crew. people that come into the sport and push around the ones w soul and style...
This right here is the closest thing to Education on the internet I've seen since I was trying to learn a bit of Brazilian Portuguese on UA-cam 👍😄🐘🙏👽 Grosso Forever
Best episode ever. Jeff, this is a real kook thing to say, but you should look into riding an SUP. No pop-ups, riding waves and when you crash you splash. You'll skate again, anyway. Skate or die, surf when you get hurt...hell, surf and skate or die.
Hearing that last part gives me chills. Skate till you can’t live on forever Grosso! Killer dude
It really did play out; his scenario. He didn't exactly die on his board. But he didn't ever not have the ability to skate while he was alive. Not many will be as lucky.
miss him so much already. If you have any other Grosso, that would be greatly appreciated.
I rewatch Grosso regularly, whether it's old footage, Van's Pool Party, or The Letters. Any footage of Grosso absolutely NEEDS to be published. I’m so grateful to Grosso...he’s one of the main guys that got me back into skateboarding... I find myself listening to him a lot, RIP Jeff...
RIP Grosso. 🖤🛹
The skate world needs more exposure to Lucero's pure skatetasticness.
grosso is the best fucking guest you all have ever had. dude tells it how it is and doesn't sugarcoat shit.
Personally my fucking favorite Weekend Buzz so far , two legends , Jeff is hilarious and John seems the coolest dude to kick it with, makes me like Black Label skateboards even more.
+Dalton Barnes This isn't a Free Lunch but that's a good idea.
+RIDE Channel HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
+RIDE Channel lmfao
So this isn't 60 minutes?!
Haha. Would still be best free lunch tho. Truth!! Long live BlackLabel !!!!!
Best episode of the Buzz yet. Grosso and Lucero are the shit
I'd love to hear grossos perspective on supreme
This.
I have an idea of what he'd say
Definitely and all the hype brands out there
It'd be an interesting perspective for sure, although Anti Hero collaborated with Supreme last year so if anyone expects him to be all 'fuck Supreme' you're gonna be disappointed. Maybe.
Isn't supreme like 20+ years old though? Only now has it blown up to what it is...
gonna be a sad day when Grosso cant skate.
LoveLetters needs to come back sooner
Syl the day has come when Grosso can no longer skate. It’s a sad day for all of us skateboarders. He never stopped. He pushed till the end. RIP
17:49 ....truer words have never been spoken
Getting through Quarantine with a healthy dose of Grosso. Miss him. Glad we have all these videos.
As a fellow 47 going on 48 year old skateboarder, Jeff's closing lines were the realist sh*t ever, I feel you man... Skate for life!
Grosso and the letters inspired me to get back into skating at 48...damn I miss him.
Why would anyone hate on this? True skateboarding.
John Lucero was on point with the weirdos discussion. weirdos are skateboarding.
"Blockhead and the Kook." That's just perfect.
More like rockhead and the kook
Grosso and the letters is one of the main things that inspired me to get back into skating... I love his brutal honesty, the world needs much more of that. RIP Grosso and thanks!
imagining how lucero feels atm breaks my little heart
I know, I started watching the Van's tribute and had to stop. Started rewatching these old shows and I was thinking the same thing. Lucero lost his little brother.
Dosent get much better than this !!! ....... Great job Ride Team , Cant wait for pt2.
Ironically what I got out of the Bones Brigade documentary is a huge admiration for all the guys of that era and especially Lance Mountain.
@@frankiew311 I don't think he was jealous. He just wanted more respected for Lance because that's his friend. And rightfully so, I kinda felt like they downplayed Lance's contributions to skateboarding.
It seems like the older dudes tend to have the better interviews...the younger skaters don't seem to have a lot to talk about...
RapedByRepublicansII Hahaha nicely put!
bc they're all fried
Because by and large, younger skaters don't have the knowledge NOR the respect of the guys who pioneered their sport and made what they're reaping the benefits of, possible. They're all a bunch of stoned morons, who glorify getting drunk and high. It seems to me, that's a larger part of the whole scene now, than the skating itself. John Lucero is a fucking legend. Life experiences man. If you are a skater for 30+, chances are u been through it
one of the best episodes....this could go on for days.
+SlimNic Clipz I wish it would. I could sit and listen to these guys for hours.
Great episode! Can't wait for part 2! I want to hear more from Lucero! For the record....LANCE MOUNTAIN is the MAN!!!
This is seriously the best episode so far. Make this a 4 part!!!
I could just listen to Jeff all day, long may we hear him rant, spew and recite all things skateboarding!
thank you to grosso for keeping skateboarding honest and accountable.
💯🎯
Brink is legit. He's so good at starting legit conversations, asking good questions, and getting perspectives from the people all of us long time skaters want to hear talk. Thanks Rob!
Seriously, maybe the best skateboarding broadcaster
Best episode yet so hyped Jeff quit smoking congrats Grosso ! Cant wait for episode two.
this should have been an hour-long
I would love to hear Jeffs opinion on guys today who collect vintage 80's skateboards and the thousands of dollars they are spending to get them.
best episode yet, need to see part 2 already and there needs to be more that just two parts, lucero and grosso are the dudes.
+Ken Kaniff
Weekly buzz with these two or just Grosso needs to be a thing.
Great comment by Grosso "It's my truth. Doesn't make it the truth." So many people think because someone makes a claim or gives an opinion that's loud, kinda makes sense, and is a bit against the grain, it must be the truth. Not so.
This by far is one of the best, Russo and Lucero speaks the truth about skaters and skateboarding
Im surprised the comments arent crying about Grosso speaking some truth. I love these dudes
"The day I cant skateboard anymore is the day I die" Never heard something so true. I love this shit..
StraightUpSB I stay true to this to this day!!!!!
Love it when they have mature smart people like Lucero on being honest and mellow.
They should have the original blind team from video days...
19:12
REST IN PEACE LEGEND
can't wait for part 2!

Michael Sanchez heard that
Amen
Wish I knew a guy like Jeff Grosso.

hearing Jeff talk about not being able to skate got heavy. I'm currently hurt and miss my board something fierce
Jeff is the dude
Spot on impression of dill by grosso haha
Looking forward to this interview. I saw Lucero and Grosso demo back in Whittier. Still got my signed Toy Blocks sticker from Grosso.
Dude he was the greatest person to ever piss people off love you Grossman RIP

man, Grasso apologizing when there’s no need for apologies in skateboarding...he was the honest voice that every industry needs. a voice of reason. you get one apology and look ten more could be needed... ha, right on Grasso
@ 14:45 see to admit that w such a tough exterior show how much guys like these feel about things in life...the amount of passion
the same things happened in surfing, where you almost get like a jock reject crew. people that come into the sport and push around the ones w soul and style...
i think i prefer watching jeff grosso interviews to skate videos. I could listen to him all day
Best episode ever can't wait for part 2
Hahaahaha “ how do you forcefully remove a Grosso?” Best quote ever
Best one ever. Someone make a documentary of Grosso.
The two best dudes skateboarding is/was blessed to have, Grosso forever.
2 of the great's of skateboarding.
This right here is the closest thing to Education on the internet I've seen since I was trying to learn a bit of Brazilian Portuguese on UA-cam 👍😄🐘🙏👽 Grosso Forever

Funny how dill would say "we gotta make them like world boards. Why can't we be more like world industries?" Then he ended up on 101
Great fucking episode. Grosso is the Man. Get Leo & Jimmy on here that would be a hilarious episode
Every time Grosso speaks his mind I like him a bit more.
Grosso's Fear reference
+Justin San Agustin Yeah, I had to rewind that to make sure I heard it right!
There is really is too many of us
What's that from? Care to let others in on it, or are you like the rest of the hipsters that can't share, cus their daddy didn't teach them to.
Solid choice getting these two together
i would watch a grosso documentary! he's the man. best skate flick was the duane peters doc. would love to see what all the boys say about jeff.
Can't imagine how Lucero is doing considering the recent news.
Grosso the man always speaking facts
Best episode ever. The day I can't skate is the day I die.. well said grosso
glad to see that the beer doesn't figure as prominently as it once did... the beer props just look lame and cheap....
Some real shit. Love both these dudes. Any any other dudes that speak the truth and arnt afraid to say shit. Good job on this one ride!
This show is refreshing.
Grosso always tells it like it is
Fear let's have a war! Agreed Jeff that day when I can't roll down to the store on my wooden toy is the day I die
I’m not tearing up at the end of this episode there’s dust in my room!
I'm liking the ambience of the candle haha
best episode yet, fuckin legends!
i love these videos and also looking at the signature wall
Grosso is the best. I have never liked punk rock, but I love people who have the punk ethos.
John Lucero is a stand up guy. Seems so genuine.
A yin and a yang. Thanks Grosso. Im not an asshole, im just a skater.
great way to end pt 1
only weekend buzz worth watching
this made my rainy day
Grosso rules as always. More Lucero, please!
Some legit statements right there. Waiting for part 2. grosso's the shit
I've be called weird so many times. Sk8 for life
