Your videos are so amazing they explain things so perfectly and your calmness is also so helpful for those of us who are super stressed. I keep referencing your videos when I start panicking over my issues. I’ve been sharing your videos I hope your channel blows up so more people can find this help!!!!
Hi Almira - thank you for your kind words and support of the channel. I am excited to see the channel growing and you can help by liking, sharing and commenting on the videos and encouraging others to do so as well. I think it's important information to get out to the world and I'm glad to see that the reach is growing further and further over time.
This train of logic matches perfectly with the anxieties of managing life in remission of substance use disorder. I detest the traditional twelve step models, which has left me on my own to deal with my problem through my own research for the last four years. I have concluded on my own that following OCD measures, mostly through externalization, plus realizing why have I have them, allows me to control my intrusive thoughts and euphoric recalls. Have you considered publishing a comparison between the two areas of study? I have no medical training but only my own experience, but when I share it with others in remission, it makes a great deal of sense to them as well. I'm enjoying your channel. Thanks!
Hi Christopher - glad you found it helpful. I am going to be posting follow-up videos discussing these appraisals in more detail in the future, so please keep an eye out for those.
You are great a sequencing and outlining what you are explaining. Your example jarred me a bit but now I’ll remember your example. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge.
I have been diagnosed with GAD, and I don't understand why certain thoughts trip me into endless thought loops, while others don't. These appraisals between thoughts and corresponding anxiety makes so much sense and the 4 categories are indeed the ones that usually trip me. Thank you for helping me understand myself a little better. I am definitely looking forward to the other videos in this series and how I can break the negative appraisals into positive ones.
Glad you found the video helpful and please keep an eye out for the videos on challenging these appraisals in the coming months. Thanks for supporting the channel!
Great explication of negative appraisals. Overestimation of danger and inflated sense of responsibility resonated most with me. Can you link the video wherein you discuss how to mediate these appraisals? Thanks!
Hi, Dr. Nader You're saying when you don't believe these negative thoughts, or entertain them in a negative way they tend not to disturb you as much. In your case, the negative thought you had about daughter didn't affect you because you didn't let that thought define you as a horrible person so it didn't stick. Like you said it's all about the appraisal. Thank you so much. I really enjoyed this video!!
Thanks for the video! An example of you carrying your daughter is very elaboate :) Is there any good theory explaining the root causes of these unwanted thoughts that pop seemingly randomly in the head except for the unconscious mind seeping through? Also, is it possible for a person to actually manifest its behaviour in accordance with their obsessive thoughts (i.e., a person who is terrified by a thought of harming a relative will actually harm them). I would highly appreciate if you point me to further readings. Thanks!
Hi Alexey - thank you for your comment and I'm glad you found the video helpful. In terms of why people have these types of thoughts, the reality is that everyone has these types of thoughts - so it's not abnormal. What's abnormal is the meaning that a person gives to the thoughts. In terms of whether these thoughts can actually manifest in behavior, this is called thought-action fusion and these thoughts in OCD do not lead to the type of feared behaviors that a person is fearful of. I will be making more videos on challenging these appraisals in OCD and specifically addressing thought-action fusion, so please keep an eye out for those.
I have been diagnosed with GAD because I worry and have panic attacks but it has never been suggested that I have OCD. This seems odd as your OCD videos so closely describe my experience. One thing not covered in your video is that I have recurring thoughts which make me doubt whether something I know I have done actually happened e.g did I really sign an important document or did I send an email to the correct person. It is not uncommon for me to log on to work emails at 3 am or during films etc to check as I cannot thinking about it until I do. Thank you for another excellent video
Hi Pete - the worries and doubts in OCD can be similar to worries and doubts in GAD. The difference tends to be that worries in OCD are ego-dystonic (they go against how the person views or thinks about themselves and the person finds them repugnant or counter to their self-view), whereas the worries in GAD are ego-syntonic (the worries are consistent with how the person views or understands themselves).
So Dr.Rami do i need to do ERP for the rest of my life?or all these can end for good coz sometimes i get rid of ERPs also, what's your reply on this Dr????
I would encourage you to take a look at some of the other videos I have posted about OCD: Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD): ua-cam.com/play/PLG_XiSJeP3s0iFYcSP6oQHjEUJOQkNzMM.html I hope you find them helpful.

@@DrRamiNader Thank you that is very interesting. My worries relate to my fear of failure and perfectionist tendencies so that makes perfect sense

When will you be making these videos on the appraisals please
Hi Ravi - I'll probably get to them in the first half of next year. They are on my list of topics, I just haven't had a chance to get to them yet.
