    I looked around a lot for a portfolio too and decided to get the J.W. Hulme Executive Folio. I absolutely love it. The only downside is they are made overseas now. I was able to get one still made in the USA

    I really like products that have a professional/high end look but can also hold up to the daily abuse. This is definitely going on the wish list!

    Carl, I agree. I have a great leather portfolio as well. I too use pencil as well, but I sometime need various colors of ink when marking up drawings during a construction meeting. I would ask that you take a look at the Uni-ball Jetstream 4&1 Pure Malt 4 Color 0.7 mm Ballpoint Multi Pen 0.5 mm Pencil. Thanks

    Should do a video with your workplace coworkers. Get their opinion on the cost of expensive boots, such as Nick's boots to show the nay sayers or people on the fence about good quality boots. I say no more "I can get like thirty pairs of Walmart boots for the cost of one of those nicks fancy pants boots"

    • @CarlMurawski
      @CarlMurawski  5 років тому

      I’ve thought of that, but most of them really don’t want to be on camera!

  • @steves1749

    I like it. My only concern would be the elastic for the note pad losing its elasticity over time.

    • @CarlMurawski
      @CarlMurawski  5 років тому +1

      I thought of that too, but in a way it’s like the elastic on Chelsea boots. The cheap ones tend to lose elasticity fast while the high quality ones hold up pretty well. My last portfolio just had a little slit at the top which allowed the cardboard back to slide in. In a pinch I’m sure a leatherworker could make something like that. Good eye though!

    What does leather upper mean in a shoe?

    • @CarlMurawski
      @CarlMurawski  5 років тому +2

      That’s usually referring to everything above the sole. Since shoes can have leather soles, to say the shoe is entirely made of leather is misleading. So many brands choose to say “leather upper” instead.

  • @SP-nx8qx
    @SP-nx8qx 2 роки тому

    Well, strictly speaking the "suede lined pocket" is not lined at all, that's just the back side of the leather that you're feeling there. And the edge you're showing between 5:25 and 5:35 is basically an eyesore. It should've been turned/rolled or painted or at least edged and burnished until you can't see the gap between the two layers of leather, but at the end of the day this is just a mass produced item and someone in factory probably had to churn one out every half an hour. Having said all that, what I've learned as a leatherworker is that the main thing is what the customer thinks, and if you like it then that's all that matters. Enjoy!

  • @leepuihin
    @leepuihin 5 років тому

    I think the structure of this video is a bit different from your previous ones and make it feels a bit like an ad (I know it isn't).
    I didn't go back to check but I feel like usually you would start by briefly talking about your needs and expectation (general / specific) from this type of item (deciding factors on why choosing X brand over Y), then explain why the item fits your needs and how you're gonna use it when reviewing the product, and explain quite clearly the potential cons that some people might want to consider if they are not looking for exactly the same requirements as you are.
    This time you explained why you are looking for a portfolio, but didn't really talk much about what you look for in it until the product is introduced. This makes it kind of feels like you just conveniently need the features because they are there, and the cons are quite casually brushed off. Us long term fans trust your integrity completely and know what you may generally want, but this may come off as disingenuous to new viewers.
    Hope you don't mind me saying this.

    • @CarlMurawski
      @CarlMurawski  5 років тому +1

      I never mind constructive criticism, but I write a video the way it actually happened. Sometimes that will seem to follow a structure, but that’s probably because of habit or lack of writing skill. I treat each video as a completely blank slate to tell the story of what I need and why I made the choice to purchase (or in this case a gift). When that happens to line up with a brand I already love, I’m very excited to share it with the world. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and taking the time to put together a thoughtful comment.
