I mean you still could windage it at the front if you used an offset front sight pin. Honestly Id have a ghost ring welded to the catch and an offset pin added to give a better sight picture.
This small machine is exceptional and beautiful. I read in Wikipedia that this is manufactured no more in the Italian company from which it was originated. What a matter of grief!!!! I wish this comes back again.

RealLuckless It's like seeing "WARNING: Contains Dairy Products" on the side of milk jug... Are people really so incredibly idiotic that the warning is needed?
Honestly fuck the american military's naming convention. Was it too hard to call rifles with an R, pistols with a P and tanks with a T instead of everything being M?
Back in the late 80's and early 90's I worked in a gun shop specializing in military style gear. Every time someone would come in asking for a job we would ask them what they new about the Spectre and why was it unique.
lol, you can tell who was REALLY serious by who thinks Oddjob is cheating. The fact is that Ourumov and Jaws are the best, Oddjob is the worst. It's a little different in GoldenEye Source, but on N64 the guns all defaulted to aiming straight at Oddjob's head. We could go back and play and you could "cheat" by picking Oddjob, and you'd be lucky to get a single kill on me.
Its hard to understand this setup unless you have it infront of you. I had to look at my KH9 for a bit until I understood how it works. The B&T KH9 is a modern version of the Spectre with very similar FCG setup.
The only part I still don't understand is what pushes the hammer-stopping bar downwards, so that when the trigger is pulled and that T-bar moves out of the way, it then allows the hammer-stopping bar to drop, allowing the linear hammer to move forward. Is it the surface on the linear hammer being angled, and the surface on the hammer-stopping bar being curved? Like, the spring tension on the linear hammer would cause the linear hammer to release from that bar due to the angled/curved surfaces, except for the T-bar blocking the stopping bar from moving down far enough to do so until the trigger is pulled?
look up "Surefire Mags". they make a 60 and 100 rd 556 for an AR. I have a 60 and a vid of a 60 rd mag dump in my machine gun. I think its called "60 rd magdump. lol.
I've always been surprised that the Spectre has not been more well-known, considering the amount of accurate firepower it could put down-range. 850rpm from a 50 round mag in such a small and handy gun is nothing to be sniffed at.
I had one in the early 90's. Mine had a blued finish. It broke a firing pin and I couldn't find another one. I ended up having one made. I sold it right after I got it running again. Big mistake!
An indoor range I used to shoot at had this in 9mm and a TEC-9 you could rent and shoot. They were the most popular rentals along with that new plastic pistol from Austria called the Glock 17. 😆
It's beautiful. I didn't even realize that this video is 22 minutes until about 18 minutes into it; I've just watched a display of real mechanical beauty
I bought one in 40cal someone took apart and could not put back together. The lower is not really meant to come apart. I got in running fine. I read there were 1,000 semi's imported. 600 in 9mm, 300 in 40 and 100 in 45acp. Only ever seen one for sale at a show years ago in 9mm. Unique firearm. The 80's gave us some interesting weapons.
I did it with legos. My kindergarten teacher was fucking horrified, which I never really understood because I never pointed it at anyone or did anything unnerving with 'em.
@@lkhdmrtn not really, since bullet is set deeper, the overall length is the same, and so is the powder charge, resulting in an almost identical cartridge. Technically, I think 9x21 can take a little bit more of abuse, so it would be better for things like developing really hot competition loads without breaking cases, but the difference is minimal enough that every single non-Italian pro shooter develops those loads with normal 9x19 components. And now that the ban has been lifted, we are going towards 9x19 too, and we’re doing it way faster than I was expecting
Two of my biggest regrets in firearms collecting are not buying a stock for my Spectre when they where less than a grand and not buying one in 45 the only time I've seen one.
Brugger &Thomet purchased the rights and make/made a couple of modernized versions. The KH9 ( limited run) and the GHM9, both refinements but without the quad stack.
oh, and the GHM9, it may look like the KH9, it is not. It uses AR FCG. Only the KH9 has the DA/SA striker design that is pretty much a modernized Spectre.
trpclfvr yeah, I watched MAC's video on it after I commented. I was just going off a discussion I had on IG with B&T and they looked at it as an improved KH9.
I noticed the smaller diameter spring is wound clockwise and the larger spring is wound counter-clockwise so they cannot mesh and get stuck together. Very clever! Otherwise you would have to separate them with a tube to keep them from getting tangled.
I know this is an old video, but I have an SBR Spectre and a factory manual and the sights ARE adjustable for windage as well as elevation. The front sight post actually is in a slot, and loosening the two locking nuts will allow it to travel left and right. Screwing the sight up or down once the nuts are loose also adjusts for elevation.
Wait he made a video on the spectre? When? I must have missed it. Coincidentally i'm watching this video by ian just a few days after ahoy released the video about the flamethrower.
The SITES Resolver M380 would make an interesting video as there are none available so far - I looked it up, considered the slim pistol of the last century
One thing they tried in italian market was to sell "a pistol that looks like a SMG" - basically, for italian laws is not that difficult to issue a pistol to private guards, security people and such. A SMG isn't avaiable for civilians under no condition whatsoever. So a security guard out of a bank may carry a pistol (or some kind of a rifle, not a SMG like police or Carabinieri does. Spectre filled the gap: it's a pistol, but the common people and bad guys would see a bulletproof-vested, police-level armed guard.
One firearm I'd remember reading about in the early 90s. Purportedly rugged and well designed. Neat to see the trigger group, fascinating mechanics. Hopefully you'll be able to see non-neutered version. I'd also read it had some cooling system...guess it was removed on this version?
You have to wonder what happened to the rolling for this gun. Are there a set of dies, stamps and mandrels sitting in a factory somewhere in Italy or Switzerland?
This is by far the best video on the Spectre I have ever seen! I have always liked this platform, definitely unique in every way. I almost bought one years ago about watching this makes me want to get one today. Great video stay safe brother.
Getting In before all the video game comments. These are super neat guns. They're not exceptionally rare, so you can still find them on gun broker every once in a while. However the folding stock and the mags are very hard to come by. If you're looking to SBR one of these the stock alone could cost almost $2000 on auction.
Nothing wrong with people falling in love with it do to playing Goldeneye on N64, that is a large part of what had me search one out to own for myself. No more than 125 of the stocks were ever imported, saw one on Gunbroker a few months back that sold for around $1,600 but I unfortunately didn't have any fun money at the time. The 30 round mags go for about $250, not sure about the 50 rounders. I know a guy who is making a small run of repro stocks, said he expects to set the price at around $600-$675. Haven't spoken to him since we last talked about it so I'm not sure if he finished them yet but he had expected to be done by this last December-January.

What an interesting firearm! I always thought the Sterling SMG was the only firearm that used a magazine with rollers - I always learn something from your videos, Ian!
I saw one of these in some weapon hand books when i was a kid and i immediately fell in love with it. I even made a wooden toy spectre and played with it in the woods. Cool seeing one of these shown here
Love mine! It definitely needs the top folding stock to be practical, and the forward grip. Not much recoil when shooting probably largely due to it's weight. Fun facts: They were only imported by two companies, FIE and American Arms, Inc. Mine is the American Arms. They are identical except the FIE chamber end OD is slightly larger and won't fit into AA rear bbl support. Also, some very early FIE guns have thicker wall magwell steel and will only accept a very rare thin wall magazine. FIE imported them first for a while until they went out of business in 1990, due to the first "Assault Weapons" ban and American Arms bought the rights to import the Spectre. AA imported all the calibers 9mm, .40S&W and the .45ACP. being the rarest. There was only 1,000 9mm, 300 .40S&W, and 100 .45ACPs imported. The AA .40S&W can have feeding issues with the blunt nose ammo apparently. The magazines are modified 9mm mags and hold 22rds instead of 30rds. They didn't convert 50rd mags because they couldn't get them to feed. You can convert a 9mm Spectre to .40S&W or vise versa by changing the barrel, bolt and magazine. You can't convert a .45ACP because it has a spot welded in adapter for the 2 column mag. The .45 is dedicated to it's caliber. I have a mag for the .45 also, because why not? Due to the rarity I figure I might as well jump at the chance to get a mag for one. Also, there were no more than 125 stocks imported into the US. One was actually up on gunbroker a few months ago and ended up selling for around $1,600 if I remember correctly. I unfortunately did not have fun money for it at the time. But someday I will get one and SBR mine. To attach it most have to be modified by drilling a hole in the rear latch section that holds the sight in, but some actually came with it already; mine is one of the lucky ones that came with it.
Mine was the early version with the thin blued (not phosphate) magazines. The steel was so flimsy that sometimes just setting the filled mag on the table would cause rounds to spit out. That was one of the reasons I got rid of mine. The other reason was I felt the trigger was made from too thin gauge steel for that heavy double action pull.
I was RO at a full auto approved range in Cobham UK.There was an arms fair held near by and our range was used for demonstration purposes. At the end of the day I was given the opportunity to fire some very cool guns. The Spectre was brilliant. After a full mag was emptied the breach was just warm. There was a silenced AK47 and MP5 too.I had to load my own mags.😩🤣
Man I had 2 of these. One as a shooter and one NIB. Cool pistol for sure. Too bad the parts and mags are hard to get and expensive. Be gentle with the plastic levers. I recall the SMG was similar in the internals and that striker is what was supposed to pump the air.
Yeah! That charging handle is plastic and feels kind of flimsy and cheap, which is odd because the rest seems really well made. I bought a spare one for mine just in case. The guy I got my stuff from said that they did break sometimes.
Wade Kirby MFIAP has front grips, and the FTC "airsoft" stock is for sale on the octagonairsoft.com website. The grip is original and the repro stock will fit.
I had one of these. The firing pin would develop burrs at the retaining pin and hang fire until the firing pin spring could push it back of the burr. I messed with it for a few months, but it would always start acting up. When it operated correctly, it was fun to shoot.
That looks like the spiritual predecessor of the P90 family. The only things missing is the dullpup setup the newfangled ammo. This looks like the design would be way easier to produce though. This gun looks great!
He made a new video on the jatimatic some months ago! (Perhaps even a year or so ago, but I remember watching a good new and fully detailed video on the jatimatic on this channel some time ago)
This is really weird. I was just searching this gun yesterday after learning it was the gun the phantom was based off of. And now you have a video on it the same day i learnt about it. Ian, can you please make a video on both the Kel Tec Su16, and the RFB. The Su16 is the only AR i know of that can legally carry a 10 round magazine in my native canada and it has a lot of other features that are interesting.
I remember reading about it in a circa 1991 "Tekhnika - Molodezhi" where it was described as the cutting edge of technology and the future of compact concealable firepower. Something along those lines. The Skorpion and that German stapler gun with weirdly shaped detachable plastic stock were also covered in the same issue.
The society's name is Società Italiana TEcnologie Speciali, pronounced "Sochetah Italiana TEchnolojie Spechalee" It's awesome that you guys finally made a video on one of these little guys, although B&T made reproductions of them the Italian ones are and will always be the Italian ones.

I did massive streaks with this in cod black ops, good ol italian submachinegun
B&T KH-9 is an interesting modernization of this design.
Still remember the movie “Cobra” in the 80’s , they used one of these . Very rare . Fast toy. Also remember the magazine , atypical to any other SMG.
Looks like I'm playing Goldeneye 64 tonight. Thanks Ian.
Love the Spectre. One of the best SMG ever realized.
Finally getting to see you make a vid on this! I absolutely love mine. They’re the coolest thing. I wanna make an SBR of one and find a stock one day.
i’m so jealous of you right now
Wolfwind Prepper Agreed! It’s my go-to!
I know where to get grips and stocks :)
AjackLee4,Where?
Wade Kirby MFIAP has front grips, and the FTC "airsoft" stock is for sale on the octagonairsoft.com website. The grip is original and the repro stock will fit.
I had one of these. The firing pin would develop burrs at the retaining pin and hang fire until the firing pin spring could push it back of the burr. I messed with it for a few months, but it would always start acting up. When it operated correctly, it was fun to shoot.
An interesting design indeed
another great video. very interesting to see the inside of a quad stack. that was a surprise to see.
It was in The Professional
That looks like the spiritual predecessor of the P90 family. The only things missing is the dullpup setup the newfangled ammo. This looks like the design would be way easier to produce though.
This gun looks great!
Weird, I was looking up info on this gun just yesterday thinking 'why hasn't Ian brought this up yet'
I didn't know that in my city there was a weapon company. Thank you Ian.
Instantly remembered of the Phantom gun in Goldeneye 64
Very nice summary, only tidbit missed is the octagonal barrel
I've been waiting a long time for you to review this one. The forgotten smgs are some of my favourites. Can I hope for a Jatimatic sometime soon?
He's got a very old video on one back from 2012
He made a new video on the jatimatic some months ago! (Perhaps even a year or so ago, but I remember watching a good new and fully detailed video on the jatimatic on this channel some time ago)
Just bought one of these, cant wait to check it out!
Ah, its the phantom from goldeneye, was an intresting weapon in frigate
That's what it is! I kept thinking perfect dark (maybe in both games?)!
Beautiful gun. Perfect stamping
Any idea how well those mags worked compared to other quad/casket mags?
One of the only guns i could ever realistically see someone dual-wielding in combat
Their are many reasons why I love Italy, the spectre is one of the many reasons.
Ya gotta flip the doodley bit, can never forget that.
"Doodly bit."
- Gun Jesus, ca. 2018
Bought one new, it was a great gun the quad stack 50rd mags were short and worked well.
It was fun in 007 Goldeneye.
Ian's going over my head with technical lingo like "little doodly-bit"! Neat little firearm, thanks Gun Jesus!
So basically it's a good tec-9
well yes but no
basically the tec-9 but its from the land of pizza
@@sparkyboi4387 can we fucking stop with this stereotype? We have pasta and lasagne too 😠

The society's name is Società Italiana TEcnologie Speciali, pronounced "Sochetah Italiana TEchnolojie Spechalee"
It's awesome that you guys finally made a video on one of these little guys, although B&T made reproductions of them the Italian ones are and will always be the Italian ones.
If only I could have this pistol and the jackhammer, I could finally sign up to security force section 009.
One the the best looking SMG's out there.
Società Italiana TEcnologie Speciali. Not Tecnologie Especiali
sono stranieri abbiamo pieta'!!!
I loved how they used the same lever design for the safety and the decocker.
Whenever you get this in the mystery box🙄
I had one of these back in 87. Mine had the stock. Neat little package for the truck. I might be wrong with the year give or take.
B&t, i think put these back in to production, or a new improved version.
I've been waiting so long for you to review this gun
Ian, Società italiana (di) tecnologie speciali
Very interesting design. And that magazine is pretty wild...
