I will always consume luxury because I've been into it since before I was born. However, I am taking a back seat because the prices are outrageous. Literally outrageous! A cotton t-shirt is also the price of a full suit. A luxury brand yoga set is also the price of a dress. How????? Also, there has been a rise in quality with the J. Crews, COS, Frankie Shop, even Zara and H & M I hear. They are making great clothes and shoes and since logo mania is sort of subsiding they seem like the way to go. I feel like I over consumed as well 20-22 so I'll only partake in something high-end here and there but I'm really into the mid/high street brands. They are doing their thing!

You just nailed it!!! It doesn't make sense anymore! Brands are really taking advantage of their consumers because HOW are you pricing like this!!? And yes, J.Crew, COS and more are upgrading their quality! Thank you so much for your input and thanks for watching.

I think the people who started buying luxury during the pandemic are the people who may be pulling away more. I think it became a trend and now that trend is gone. Those who have always bought luxury will likely always love it. I did have an excessive moment of purchasing but once I was sitting there thinking of ways to rearrangement my entire accessories closet to fit more bag I knew it was time to stop. I’ve sold some bags and I’m back to a place of buying only when there’s something I love and know I’ll use. I’m much happier. I will say I’m significantly more picky because the prices are ridiculous and most pieces are not worth it. So clearly I shop a lot less but I’m happy for it.
Also, your belt bag is super cute

Wow, I didn’t know there’s been a decline in luxury purchase. So for me, I started buying luxury at 18 years old. I was always a fashion enthusiast; I had every fashion magazine you could think of but if I’m being honest, luxury purchases for me was a way to feel valuable in a world where women that look like were made to feel less than. Those same fashion magazines I adored, hardly had anyone that looked like me in them. Psychologically it had a negative effect on me that I wasn’t aware of; So wearing luxury was a way to self soothe how invaluable I felt as a young black woman. Fast forward to present day, I now see luxury much differently. I no longer purchase luxury to validate my being in the world and as a result I don’t desire to purchase as much luxury as I once used to. Plus, I have noticed a huge decline in quality. I also don’t go out as much as I once did before the pandemic. I just have way too much stuff that I haven’t worn from 2022 & 2023 that I can’t justify buying more.. unless it’s one of those items that will really have great longevity in my closet. Lol. Great content as always. 💕

With so much going on in the world, my focus has shifted. It now seems trivial to chase after bags. I believe a lot of us are awakening to what's important (family, saving/investing your money, and Jesus Christ), and it's not buying material goods, especially with the astronomical price increases. The greed of these companies is sickening! None of this stuff matters anymore! I still enjoy watching luxury and fashion content, but I'm out of the rat race now.

I’ve been buying luxury for over 30 years and have seen these brands increase their prices to stupid levels. For no reason mind you - they’re not changing anything or adding new bells or whistles to the bags. It’s crazy. When I browse the Chanel boutiques now, the bags roll their eyes at me and I roll mine right back! LOL! I enjoy luxury but find myself hitting it up the preloved market. I just bought a preloved Chanel mini reissue from 2019 (in perfect condition) at the 2019 price point (so saved $2k over today’s prices .. for the same bag they’re releasing today)! It’s crazy. These price increases have widened my appreciation for other, non luxury brands, too. Great topic - TFS!

We need to redefine luxury for ourselves. It’s no surprise that luxury brands are using influencers for marketing because they want to use them to corner the market. We all should be asking ourselves the hard questions out loud. Why do we want a luxury product? What is causing the want of said products? How will have said products enhance our lives? Who’s influencing us to buy products and why? What is the goal of it all? What am I to gain from purchasing it? We have to all be honest with ourselves and each other about our spending decisions in the current financial crisis we’re all experiencing whether personally or indirectly. The saying keeping up with the Jones’s is real!! A lot of us are making decisions to spend money in luxury or of any sort from a place of misplaced belief, interest, necessity, vantage etc… point of view. We see this mass response to capitalism and it’s heroic. People are doing the internal work on a major scale and this in turn is causing a huge amounts of people to lose interest in things/stuff. People are looking for ways to enrich their lives that don’t include making companies rich and leave them depleted.

I feel social media has put a decline in luxury when I was growing up you only seen it in magazines, music videos. Movies shows TVs now with social media. You see it every day in the moment as is being purchased worn advertised it can get overwhelming and if everyone has the same thing or wearing the same thing, it doesn’t feel luxury anymore, that’s my opinion. I enjoy this video.

I believe luxury is dead, at least, for me. I've come to the realization these brands are robbing me of my money. These luxury items people crave and lust for are not worth the price these brands claim they are. I am virtually designer-free, except for 2 sneakers I bought dirt cheap. Even a pair of Prada sneakers I bought for $1070 went on sale for $700, then to $500, now at $243 - even at that low price, after multiple adjustments, I still returned them. The desire isn't there anymore. Today, I have a robust luxury fund to spend elsewhere.

Listen my love of fashion and bags runs deep! I love luxury and I buy when something speaks to me! I have slowed down somewhat with shopping as I shifting my focus to purchasing a new home! The quality of some brands has also made be push pause along with the insane price increases! Rest assured if something catches my eyes and the quality is there I’m purchasing it! Love the Hermes belt bag as it’s truly a work of art! 🔥🧡 This was a great video and loved hearing your thoughts! TFS 😍😍😍

I agree with what you said. I especially shopped more in 2020-2022. I had three trips planned in 2021, I was turning 40 and when none of that happened I just shopped. I think I spent the most on luxury that year and in 2022. Now, I am only buying what I truly like due to the price increases. It's just ridiculous at this point.

Great video. I think this “disinterest” in luxury is also a trend. In the same way it was a trend for these SAME people to buy luxury in the first place. A lot of people do it to feel worthy or valuable. As oppose to TRULY having an interest or passion for fashion. If these are your reasons then yes you won’t be satisfied. Insecurity is an internal issue. Materials won’t fix that. Hence why these people still feel less whole after attaining these items. As for me, I’m buying my first very special (hopefully exotic) birkin soon🥰 I only purchase things that I am absolutely in love with.

I agree there was definitely a spike in over consumption due to the pandemic. Prices for some of these brands are outrageous - especially when they know their quality has gone down. It’s too bad because there are folks who truly love fashion and buy pieces for many other reasons regardless of trends and following others. I will also say that you hit the nail on the head in the beginning when you made the comment about “the haves and have nots”. People are okay with consuming it as long as the majority can’t access it. Same with the quiet luxury trend. There is an undertone to all of this, and I don’t want to take it to race - but in my opinion that is a huge reason why a lot of these brands increase prices and why a lot of certain bloggers/influencers are now saying luxury is dead. It’s not dead, some not all - don’t want certain folks to have access.

Monica, thanks for this video. My take is that I will buy luxury and I will be mindful as always of what I buy. I have reached a certain age and financial situation where I can afford it more comfortably. But on the other hand, I work diligently to not be influenced to buy things that are not in my budget. I do not make judgments and I truly buy what I like and feel like I can say that and really stand in it. I enjoy certain things and I also enjoy cheaper things, also I try to get things that I am going to wear and utilize. But I love to watch what other people are wearing that fits into my personal style and I just really now get things only that I really want and like. Thanks for this video I love this video and agree with you, also...I am not really big on trends but try and buy things that will stand the test of time for my closet mind body and soul. On another boat, Monica, love the new bag, love the hair, and have you noticed that the Bobs are back? they never went out of style but sis, I am loving them and cutting mine soon. Okay, now is the time for me to digest I appreciate you, thank and look forward to the next video...one last note Monica have you seen the new Jcrew skirt that has strawberries, if you see this post I would love to know your thoughts? I am going to buy it and rock it, I usually do not like prints like that but it is done well. Okay, by for real this time.

Cavalli died on April 12th. I agree people over spent during Covid and that most brands have taken advantage of that and now just take for granted that people will buy. I buy better quality things now that I am older for a lot of reasons and they maybe more expensive but it doesn’t mean all my bags are over 4,000 Euros. I think people in this country like fewer things with better quality but that is changing. I remember friends buying apartments and getting a kitchen customized for 90,000 Euros and now people get it from IKEA. Ah, here in Italy when you buy a property is kitchen less…and that goes with clothes too. It’s like a reverse reality to US. When I was there I had many coats from stores at the mall, my friend here had only one but from Valentino and we were in our 20s.!

Yes. The prices are not matching the quality. It definitely seems like this is happening outside of the fashion industry as well. I also think that it used to be that luxury pieces were in a way, reserved for certain age groups. Younger kids didn't have access to these things. Now that they do, certain brands are not as appealing anymore including chanel. It's watered down now. I will continue to purchase luxury pieces, but only from certain brands.

Im kind of curious to when or if they will drop their prices 🤔. Because in the long run the continuation to rapidly increase prices for the sake of negating "the have & have nots", or validate their company is still a superior brand will back fire. Eventually "the haves" might willingly stop purchasing due to poor quality or feeling cheated. However the other side to this is why are some of these exclusive brands mass producing items? Its like a catch 22 🤷‍♀️. It almost appears that some companies in general are unnecessarily jumping on the inflation bandwagon as an opportunity to increase their revenue.

This is Chanel and now their paying for it. Their not publicly traded so they won’t share with us that their bottom line is hurting. What LV’s owner said is that their stopping the price increases and “concentrating” on quality. Well they ARE publicly traded and we see that their hurting. My guess is that their going to not do the increases for a couple of years(smart move to get people spending again) and perhaps have new products more moderately priced to SELL.

Just like you i find it almost impossible to enter a store and pick up only one item😅. I feel i have to pick up two or more, cause it feels kinda silly to me. I’m not off of luxury. I realize that I am a specific brand person. So I need to stop buying or even looking at other brands and stick to the ones that I got back to

Still consuming but at a much slower pace. Trying on, considering, waiting then purchasing later. The item must have longevity.

you must time travel to the 1960's they had more quality and more variety and it was reasonably price. The skyway luggage ive bought is 100 times better

I love designer. I have so much of it, but I realize that I was being brainwashed by what I was seeing on social media. It was like I felt like I had to go out and buy these expensive things. I got $900 shoes. I’ve never worn that’s crazy.

First, you're looking gorgeous today! So, I have always enjoyed high luxury, but couldn't always afford it, so I when with mid price such as coach, MK and Kate Spade. I had also stopped watching influencer on YT for a while because, unlike you, it seems to be a " look what I got gatekeepers fashion show". Fast forward to the pandemic, more consumers were able to afford luxury and I feel like those gatekeepers don't feel special anymore. Let face it a lot of consumers shop high luxury to say, everyone can't get this item not really about the quality. I can go on and on about this, but this is my 2 cents.

I agree with your views. I also think many people are falling on harder times financially as a result of inflation which may deter people or at least cause them to take a step back from making their usual luxury purchases. The question I want to pose is how far are people willing to go broke to step on necks? 🤷🏽‍♀️😂 Also your bob is so cute!

Their in decline because they over played their hands and their in denial about who their true customers currently are. When you skimp out on quality, do a major upcharge on products, and then don’t treat your customers appropriately you have an environment not conducive to price gain. Lux companies are getting what they deserve. Now LV decided to stop the increases and bring the Quality department back 👀🤦‍♀️💆🏾🥴🤭😬😂😂😂😂😂Your share holders didn’t like the steep drops in demand huh? 🙄👀😂😂😂😂& said listen to the costumers

If you weren't born with a silver spoon in your mouth, most Americans simply cannot afford luxury Hermes bags and Prada shoes as their staple wardrobe. It simply isn't sensible If it's out of your means. I've seen people trying to keep up with the Joneses spend their money on items that could have been used towards purchasing a car! However, if you have the means to purchase these kind of luxury brands then by all means do so. I do believe that most of them are extravagantly overpriced and the markup is outrageous. I can be honest and say that sometimes when I watch that type of content, It's a bit intimidating because there is no way that I can afford it. Also, I do believe that brands are taking advantage of the whole pandemic era which is unfortunate, as you mentioned. So I try to make the best out of what I have and maybe get something that looks similar that's more affordable. We are living in a time where people are really struggling just to pay their rent. We are in a recession and inflation is sky high! However I can say that I love looking at the pieces that you bring and being inspired by the way you style them.

@kearstenw3855 Well said! I totally agree & right now I'm only purchasing thing's that I need & that's mostly to maintain my home 🏡 other thing I love to do is travel so spending money on thing's that truly bring me joy & not just taking up space in my closet. However, I do like watching 👀 the videos for inspiration 😊

I have been around it for years, so I feel like we should take the titles off " I went luxury shopping" and "luxury unboxing" . Some people choose to spend 30.00 dollars on a pair of jeans that actually cost 5.00 to make. some choose to spend 300.00 on something that cost 10.00 to make. Just my thoughts

Luxury is no longer luxury… it is just overpriced… how can we relate to or call something luxury when everyone is buying/ wearing it.?
I have been in the habit of buying clothing as well as autos that I would wear and: or drive for years! I mean 15-20 years… whereas today's purchases seem tossed away or traded.
What is luxury? Price or quality?
Pick one or both, but be clear it can not be available to everyone and be deemed a luxury.
