After I was introduced to these, I never wanted to drive another ground rod by hand again. The amount of time I've spent trying to hammer one through a rock 😑 _don't act like you've never sawzall'd the end off of one either. You're no better that me lol_
T-post pounder works great :) Can get through some rougher ground though if it's super rocky I'm sure it wouldn't work. It's also definitely still not as nice as this haha
@@ronaldshank7589 I got about a foot down. It was one of those metal posts. I figured it just has to support the middle of my fencing to keep in my 2 15 pound dogs so I wasn't too worried about the strain.

My milwakee does just as good of a job in sand/dirt. We run into alot of rock here in Idaho. Comes down to sledgehammer yelling cussing and alot of sweat
Lol same thing in California it's almost impossible to dig anywhere because if you dig like 5 inches then your gonna be filling up a whole bucket with rocks
The new and improved “Thor”! Someone should do a before and after methods of driving ground rods. Still use my old one with 20lb head and a steel pipe welded to it, just don’t let it slip.
Like to see it do that where I live in mountains, hard pan and rocks, this video was made in sandy material, good luck and ya it’s a nice tool for soft ground,
Hey let me show you how this tool works , well I’m not going to step down off this tail gate. I just did 15 seconds of work could you take the tool and finish for me
Come up to the rocky soil of massachusetts and try this out. I have to use a jackhammer to drive ground rods up here sometimes and even then they get so stuck I cant pull them out of the ground with a 10k lull
That rod provides a source of ground for our electrical work. We have to drive them and traditionally we would have used hammers. When I was coming up in the trade we used another type of drill that wasn’t nearly as effective as this even.
In America you guys just hammer a metal rod in the ground? In Canada we actually have to dig a hole at least 3 ft deep and place the plate flat down. I dont know which is better but I do hear Canadian electrical work is better
Lol. I put a bunch of rods in the ground in New England which is all rock, very long day that a tool needs to keep up with. I also ended up getting poked in the butt by a rod that hit a few rocks and came back out of the ground behind me while I was hammering it in
@@iSteve931 i had a similar experience. Except I went to go throw the shovel on the back of the digger derrick. Tripped and faced planted. We used a 65lbs hydraulic ground rod driver. Hit rock about 18 inches and the rod curled right back up. Ended up just throwing a new rod in the hole with the pole that we dug on for 4 hours. You gotta do what you gotta do.
the only thing that would make this video better is if a 3rd, shorter man appeared and finished the drilling
Midget?

You know, there wasn't a rock within a mile of that ground rod. If there was, guaranteed that the next video would be their new Dewalt sawzall.
Don't give away the trade secrets lol
Yk when it gets to about 2 feet sticking out the ground and u been banging in for 15mins u just get to a point of fuck it and u cut it
I was thinking the same.
T-post pounder works great :)

Used to have to install these with a modified sledgehammer all around cell towers, would've loved to had this
Jeeeeez...those trees in the background sure do grow straight...lol. 🤪
Is that how they grew those poles in the background?
Dude shut up 😂😂

Lol
Only lazy fat guys
thats one solid ground rod
This would have been so handy for the 3,000 ground rods I pounded in to the ground with a damn hammer! 🔨
When you show off your brand new tool to your friends:
Good thing this wasn’t filmed in MN. Can’t go 6” without finding a rock.
My expensive hole saws find nails before you can find a rock.
Its harder to find a spot without a rock than with in az
Yeah same in wisconsin. Have to try 4 time to put a fence post in. And even then I still hit one gave up and said that's deep enough.
@@Zoroaster4 How deep were you on that 4th try? Honestly, though...if it'd been me, I'd of probably given up, too!

Soft ground. Not fair. Come to New Hampshire and try that. Tons of rocks. We are also known as the granite state
Try that in my yard here in Hawaii! It'll go about 12 inches then hit solid rock or coral! Pain in the ass to dig ANYTHING!

Try this where I live in Hawaii on volcanic rock...inside a volcano...underwater
I am thoroughly impressed
I was waiting for a little guy to take over third
Those are life savers in rocky ground
I’ve hand driven them with a mallet. No glory.
Everybody saying ol' JimBob here is little but that man's got the ballast around his belly that drives the rods!
Wow that’s amazing drilling threw grass
Try driving ground rods in middle tennessee... y’all are missing the sledgehammer we use
