- Remember that wallet I made on the Cricut Maker a month or two ago? I remake it in this video completely on the laser, and I use that Lake Art I have been working on. This build had a lot of challenges for me - and I share that with you as well. In the end - I think it turned out great! As always - I really appreciate the time you spend watching my channel. Thank you!
The original video where I made this on the Cricut contains links to the project, including the free template I created - and the original artwork in Affinity Designer. That video is here: • A Leather Wallet on th...
The first video in the Lake Art with Lasers series I showed one way to recreate those layered lake art pieces that I have seen some sell. I am really happy that so many people found that video helpful, and especially happy that people are starting to share their work based on it. That video is here: • Lake Art, with LASERS!
I then took that same artwork, and modified so that it would look good etched into some of those Yeti knockoff tumblers. This one goes over the rotary work as well, and that link is here: • Laser Etched Tumblers ...

Jeez, this is the most underrated UA-cam channel I've seen... I've watched a few videos and they're excellent. I love your honest experiences and trial and error as well as how detailed you are in every step. I was shocked to see only 1.3k subs... keep it up! Subscribed/alerted!
I’m shocked too! Lol. :). Cheers!
@@ThisIsHowIMadeIt seems like an algorithm problem... Maybe mention keywords like cricut and K40 in the title more? That's how I first found a video of yours - the one about drawing on leather cuffs with a cricut.
Yes I agree!! And I found you the same way my wife got a new cricut maker and I was looking up way I can use it too 😃 keep it up !
As someone who has been dabbling with leather crafting for longer than I'd like to admit. I really like your honesty about how hard it can be at times.
Very cool!
I need plans for that jig!
Me, halfway through: Hmnn...I don't know about the brown and blue.
Me, at the end: IT LOOKS AWESOME!
looks good!
Love it!!!!!
Thank you, well explained and a great voice for it :)
Great work. very inspiring
Nice leather work and excellent narration. Very impressive 👌
Awesome work! Love the video, all the best!
Turned out pretty good :)
That's nice, Tim. I definitely like the brown better. Take care. Bill
Love the blue stitching!
Me too!! Thanks!
Nice job.
Came out great in my opinion and your video was really well done!
Thanks!!
Some good hints there I like the color scheme & the use of the potentially unused bit for the liner - one thing I would have done is make the corners & edges a bit rounder - it makes the wallet go in a pocket easier has a nicer hand feel - as I said that's what I would have done & it was all your project so I'm not being critical - I'll have a look at some more of your work thanks for the channel
Way late to the show, great video. Will be watching more. What was the masking material you used while cutting out the last pieces?
Thank you for the video and time you took to make it. How do you keep the etched area from being wiped off or losing its drawing since it's a wallet and keeps getting putt into a pocket.
On my channel I have an updated laser wallet video that does go into some of that
What laser equipment do you use ? Love this and finally found something easy to follow .thank u
That was made on an omtech 50 watt laser.
hey very good job and a quick question..what do you spray on that wood panel to stick the leather on it?
Just some 3m spray adhesive...
I know I'm a bit late. But I wonder what the effect would be if the leather was dyed before it gets etched? Or maybe I'm just missing something and being nieve.
It’s a good question. On my next leather project I will do both and compare. I don’t know the answer :)
Random question 2 years later...recently got a laser and have been looking into leather work with it...from my past experiences stitching and punching the holes for the stitching always seemed to be the difficult part....my question...can you use the laser to cut the stitch holes?
I’m sure you can. It will likely be very dirty as you stitch…. But if you used black thread on already finished leather, I’m sure you could wipe it clean
I watched this to figure out how to clean and finish my leather after laser. I saw how you dabbed clean but what is it you finished with to keep any remaining char from rubbing on everything?
A dye and then a leather clear coat
Acrylic I believe made for leather
Hello, its fantastic job, can you help me with machine on
to spray paint and what paint did you use? What is the lifespan of that color?
Thank you so much
That is just leather dye, not spray paint. I use an air brush to spray it tho.
@@ThisIsHowIMadeIt Thank you. How long will it last in good quality?
It’s been six months and it still looks great. A little dirty from use, but I still use it every day!
Are you taking orders yet?
What kind of lazer are you using? My husband wants to buy me one for Christmas…
Omtech
Hey! try to clean the skin with tape (adhesive tape) after laser treatment
Good idea, but sometimes adhesive makes a mess with staining. I’ve started to dye and put leather balm in my projects before I laser any time I can. Makes clean up a breeze!

The source data is vectors - why not keep it vectors all the way?
You mean do vector outlines and fills for all the images? Certainly could - but wouldn't the raster engrave be faster and a little easier?
This Is How I Made It easier, yes. Faster, maybe. I found less material distortion and heating using vector fills, and reducing fonts to single lines made them clearer. My experience is from and older K40 so perhaps time has passed me by. You’re out there making stuff, I’m just kibitzing!
