It’s not just track though! It’s a BUNCH of Olympic caliber athletes across sports grinding like this. Post college but not famous enough for big time sponsorship. So they get caught in between working to live and pay bills while still finding time to train to work toward a dream.

It’s simple. Track and field isn’t has big as other sports. So there’s less value/demand for it. This means the athletes don’t get paid well. There’s more demand/value for sports like NFL, football so the players earn millions.
To survive off T&F sponsors you need to do something astonishing like Usain Bolt did to earn millions like break multiple records.
But then again, I feel sorry for these athletes imagine putting all your time, effort and having to get another job on top of training.

This is crazy because the ammount of money that is oaid at athletic events is so much in my country because of the exchange rate. My currency is Botswana Pula and $1:BWP13.56. As such any prize money from an athletic meet is enough for one to live comfortably for 10 years or so and winning 3-6 times is enough for one to retire😭😭😭. Its the equivalent of if the prize was in Kuwait Dinar. And also another factor is that the tax in our country is 14% though they sometimes lower it to 12%. i feel like athletes in the US should be exempted from tax or it should atleast be lowered to like 5-10% because they are really struggling.
