Do your trainees get to use the club kit in open water, or just the pool?
Hey Matt. Just in the pool. We send all our OD trainees to do their open water with our Partner Centre, Robin Hood Watersports, who supply all the kit required for open water.
@@UKDiver gotcha! Just trying to work out how feasible it is to hire kit to students for the whole thing in my club - making them buy gear early on is getting prohibitively expensive!
Got to be careful with hire pal, as you may then fall into the commercial realm then that means all your kit has to be serviced to manufacture spec. We certainly don’t have BCs etc serviced as they’re only used in the pool. If we were to start with hire we’d probably bankrupt the club! It’s one of the reasons we send our ODs to a partner centre. They pay for all that stuff for their kit and we don’t have to. We “loan” our OD’s the kit for the pool. They pay no extra than any other member club fees wise so we stay well clear of any HSE requirements. It’s expensive either way pal. It’s just a decision on who foots the bill. We’ve gone down the middle. We sort your pool included in fees, student pays for the OW separately 👍
