Seitengänge können nicht nur unter dem Sattel erarbeitet werden (siehe Teil 1 unserer Richtig Reiten-Serie mit Anja Beran). Auch an der Hand kann ihre gymnastizierende Wirkung große Fortschritte in der Entwicklung mit sich bringen. Gerade bei jungen Pferden ist es oft hilfreich, die Seitengänge ohne Reitergewicht zu festigen. Aber auch für Pferde reiferen Alters, wie hier im Video Lusitano Olé (24 Jahre alt), ist es eine abwechslungsreiche Gymnastizierung, die Seitengänge an der Hand zu trainieren.

We can not only practice lateral work under the saddle, but it also is a gymnastic exercise if we do them by hand. It can help especially younger horses if they can do it without a rider's weight.
Even for older horses, like our 24 years old Lusitano Ole, it is also a nice exercise if he can do the lateral work by hand. And he has no longer to carry the rider's weight every day.
For the young horses I use a snaffle and the older horses go with a double bridle if they are used to it. I also work the horses on hand with the bit they are used to.
The first exercise I do is stepping over.
I begin to step over, I let the horse go around me to the side, I'm a kind of pilar around which the horse moves. I have the outer reins in contact as well as under the saddle. It regulates that the horse does not bend too much inwards and runs over the outer shoulder. While I have the inner reins very close to the bridle or directly my index finger even on the bridle ring, because I feel the horse very well. And here as under the saddle with a movement of my finger the horse can answer and he answers immediately by giving his jaw and chewing, which is very pleasant.
Overall, I have not more in hand than the weight of the reins. And I can stand still here nicely, while the horse Ole goes around me sideways. If it were not active in the back, I have two options. I can use my whip to work directly on the hind leg and activate it a little. Or if we have a horse that responds a bit slow on the leg aid and I want to make it more sensitive, I can also touch here where the leg normally would work.
Then I stop the horse with the outer reins and my voice. It is also nice when the horse is closed. If he wants, he can stretch too. It is an advantage if you do the work in hand without side reins and auxiliary reins. When you see that the horse has the need to make himself long, I just have to let go and he can stretch.
Then I switch to the other side. And I look at the mobility of the horse, whether the horse also steps smoothly sidewards away from the whip. My tonguing and the whip aid are the two aids that set the horse in motion. Now I have to see that it goes slowly and does not become too fast. Otherwise the joints often remain stiff. And the horse has no time to flex the large joints of the hind legs if he does it too quickly.
That is why you should always make sure that it is active but slow. With this work in hand I feel very well where my horse is naturally crooked, where it is stiff and where it is hollow. Here on the right hand the horse Ole tends to walk a little over the outer shoulder because he is more on the left shoulder because he is stiff there. On the right it makes itself more hollow. That's why I try on the right hand that he doesn't bend too much and he is a little straighter. But of course I have to ask a little. If I have a horse that tends to rush too far forward, I try a little more to stand in front of the head to get the horse to put more weight on the hind leg and to keep more balance and not to rush forward.

Mit diesem Pferd wurde toll gearbeitet. Das sieht man sofort. Alles sehr ordentlich und verständlich erklärt so sollte es aussehen und das ältere Pferd darf zeigen was er kann.
Nervös?
Der Liebe ist alles andere als nervös.
Er will keine Fehler machen und ist konzentriert.
Solche Pferde sind froh nicht nur in der Ecke zu stehen weil sie älter sind und Dankbar das man was mit ihnen macht.

Schön gezeigt, aber ein paar mehr Erklärungen mehr, wie man da hinkommt, wären schön...
Toll erklärt, mein Pferde trägt seinen Kopf recht hoch und rollt sich oft auf, hätten sie da einen Tipp? Gebisslos macht er das leider auch. LG Pam 👋
Ich bin kein Profi aber arbeite regelmässig mit verschiedenen Pferden. Eins davon hat dasselbe Problem. Was ihm hilft ist, wenn man eine Parade nach hinten oben gibt, also in Richtung Ohr. So bringt man ihn aus dem Gleichgewicht und er muss eine neue Balance finden. Es wird mehr Gewicht mit der Hinterhand aufgenommen und das Einrollen wird erschwert. Ein weiterer Tip ist, das Pferd in dem Moment, in dem es sich einrollen will, deutlich vorwärts zu treiben (am Boden und auch beim Reiten). Vielleicht hilft das bei deinem Pferd ja auch😊👍🏻
Such mal nach Hella Mohr … da bekommst Du immer wieder Hilfe, vor allem wenn sie ein neues Pferd arbeitet.

Ich bekomme weder Renvers noch Travers erarbeitet. Meine Stute kann das übertreten und auch das Schulterherein ist kein Problem. Sie kann auch auf mich zu weichen wenn ich die Gerte über ihren Rücken lege, allerdings biegt sie sich dabei von mir weg. Sobald ich stellung und biegung zu korrigieren versuche entzieht sie sich meiner Gertenhilfe
Zwischenstation 1 geht mir leider genau so..
Lass sie im Renver übertreten! Stelle sie nach außen beim Übertreten. Dann kommt das Travers im reiten von alleine

Das dauert manchmal einfach, bis sie es verstehen. Bei meinem auch. Solange habe ich einfach die anderen Übungen gemacht. Übertreten, Schulterherein, Kruppeherein. Hast du mal versuch das Kruppeherein an der Band zu üben und dich dann von der Bande zu lösen?
Probiert es mal wenn du es seitlich an die bande stellst, dann kann es praktisch nur auf dich zu kommen :)

Noch weniger Abknicken im Hals wäre effektiver, insgesamt mehr geradegerichtet.
Fällt niemandem auf, das das Pferd sehr nervös ist? Ständig mit dem Schweif schlägt, den Kopf schüttelt? 🤔 Trotz seines Alters? Ausserdem finde ich das sie die Seiten zu wenig wechselt.
Ja mir ist das auch aufgefallen. Sowie auch das er ständig mit dem Gebiss beschäftigt ist.
Sommer? Fliegen?
Wenn der Bauchmuskel beansprucht wird kommt es auch vermehrt zu Kautätigkeiten beim Pferd.
Nein, ich sehe kein nervöses Pferd und auch kein Kopfschlagen. Er kaut ruhig auf dem Gebiss, was man auch bestens hören kann, weil er klassisch ohne Sperrhalfter gezäumt ist. Nervöse Pferde nehmen den Kopf hoch und sind steif vor Anspannung, keine Spur von Biegung. Er hier ist sehr konzentriert bei der Arbeit und wunderbar gestellt und gebogen. Entsprechend weich kann er seitlich übertreten.
@@MissOpera1 / 14. Mai 2021: Ich kannte mal einen (Freizeit-)Isländer, der mit einem gut passenden, dickeren, gepflegten Wassergebiss nicht zurechtkam und auffällig darauf herumkaute. Nach Wechsel zu einem S-Bit war das schlagartig vorbei.
Pferd schlägt durchgehend mit dem Schweif ...
