I'd like to see his take on that too. Thing is...I coached D3 and we beat a D1 team. Now I coach NJCAA and we've beaten D2 and NAIA teams and drawn with a D3. There's teams on our conference (region) that are fully funded and far better than those four year schools and some D1 programs. It's about the $$$
Matt you should get your teammate who played at Chico State to weigh in if you touch competition.
Love the content. I was trying to explain this pyramid to my club team last night. Now I'll just pass this on as I do a lot of your videos.

@@ColonialUnited what division 3 school did you coach? I think d1 has better soccer consistently but you can also find d3, d2, naia teams who are crazy good. I currently play at a Naia school ranked 7 in the nation and we beat a top d1 school 3-0.

I appreciate the NPSL love. I'm a coach with a successful NPSL team. We focus on providing summer opportunities for NCAA players so although we can't pay even the non-collegiate players (without jeopardizing everyone's NCAA eligibility), we try to bring a professional level training and gameday experience. Also worth noting that just like with Pro/Rel leagues, there is a lot of overlap in quality level between the leagues (probably more so due of the lack of vertical movement). We've had players make the jump to professional teams overseas, "higher" leagues in the US (including the MLS). Pro/Rel (and single entity ownership) is really holding the growth of the lower leagues back, but we can't just pretend like it would fix it immediately if implemented. Our country is enormous and soccer isn't our dominant sport (yet).

Hi Vicente, I got a Question for you about My plan to go Pro. I currently 15 in in south Florida with no team, But I'm going to be having a tryout for a traveling team this summer. I tryout for my school, but failed, but I personally decided to do is to train with the team despite failing to make the team. At first I was just coming over to watch the players in which Most of them are my friends. And because I have smart friends who were on the team, the guys came over to me during their 2 minute break to have a little discussion about training with the team( but not allowed to play any of their games). So after training session I when went to the coach office and I ask him " CanI train with you and your team. He said No. But Still decided to come to practice. After 2 and a half weeks went by, I decided to Take out my GK Gloves out of nowhere and decided to warm the Gk up with typical GK training( And btw GK is Not My favorite Position but I decided to go get it over the Summer to Play at that Position for Fun without hurting my hands). After my soon to be Haitian friend Roasted me out of nowhere ( He was only joking though) The Coach decided to let me train with the team out of nowhere ( even though I was next to the Goal Post on the left I still couldn't believed what the Coach said to me). Unfortunately it was towards the end of training session (at least I got 3 chances; 1 save, 1 allowed and the others 1 missed by a mile), but l knew from that very moment l can officially train with the team. And the next day, Training was brutal but it was worth it as the team got on a four-game winning streak until they lost at home to the team that eventually won the district championship. After the season ended ( unfortunately getting out 2-0 in the first round of the district playoffs on the road)I was thinking about a moving to England after High school to get a better chance at being a Pro ( And If l was able to tryout in England I would hope Chester FC would allow me to tryout for their team). I want your opinion. I have the Idea and Plan, but I want to make sure if this is a good Idea or not. The Positions I can Play in : GK, CB, DMC, CM, CAM, and ST but l just don't know what position I should focus more on ( for the team, that is). And one last thing, Have you ever played professional, Semi-Pro Football or Collage Football (soccer) before?
I Know this message is probably way too long for you , but If you got to the End, I Just Got to say Thank you for Reading this.

@@dreamslyprosper8553 Hi. You need to Play where you feel more confurtable and more able to help the team.
If you want to become Pro you need to train Hard (Not Being Crazy Of Course :) ) . In England will propably be very Hard because they want Players with very developed Skills and Physic Strenght and some Speed.
Try to choose a Position and watch games to get an Idea and make Trainning Sessions to get Better at.
      Good Luck!!

In America teams don't think it's fair to be able to be relegated from a league that they helped form. In all American top tiers of all sports there is a closed system where teams cannot enter the league at all or a buy in system where teams must pay millions to join a league. This system is made to get money for the league and commissioner at the cost of improving sports.

They really should implement promotion and relegation across all the leagues including the MLS. This will make teams work harder as they know they have a chance at the top league and vice versa. This also will help grow the teams because as they get on top, they'll get more money for TV deals, which smaller teams can use to make the MLS and other leagues more competitive. Or at least that's how they do it in Europe

skillr_7 The USL might adopt pro-rel one day once it’s stabilized, but I can guarantee you that MLS will never have it. The only way would be if FIFA forced it, which they won’t because it would bring a billion dollar lawsuit.
It’s literally impossible for MLS to have relegation according to the league’s rules and structure. The league would have to be disbanded and started from scratch for it to happen. The league owners who have invested hundreds of millions of dollars into their teams, in some cases for over 20 years, will never consent to a system where their teams can be relegated and plummet in value. That would be a death sentence for many of the smaller teams. If MLS had relegation, the LA Galaxy would have gone down in 2017, which would have been a disaster for the league. No way they’re able to sign Zlatan in the second division. The league doesn’t want a situation like that where a big team falls out of the top division.
It’s more likely MLS expands beyond 32 teams than ever adopts relegation.

I would say the top college programs’ starting XI is made up of players at the D2 and D3 level with even a few players good enough to make MLS teams right away.
Most NCAA D-I players are probably around the D4 and D5 levels in the professional US pyramid. Meaning semi-pro and high-level amateur. Like Matt said, a lot of college players play on teams at that level over the summer.

    • @michaelstein7510
      @michaelstein7510 5 років тому

A team applies to join the higher league and the owners/board of that league will accept or deny that application based on a few factors. The quality of their infrastructure, the size of the market, and the attendance are all factors, in addition to on-field performance.
Seattle, Portland, Vancouver, Minnesota, Orlando, and Cincinnati have all been added to MLS in the last 10 years after proven success in the lower divisions.
Likewise, some teams choose to drop down a division that is more appropriate for their size. The Richmond Kickers and Rochester Rhinos dropped down from D2 to D3 because the standards of that league more closely match the size of that club.
We don’t have pro-rel in the traditional sense, but there’s still a lot of fluidity and movement between the divisions.
