Confidence Tips:( in new team) 1. Greet everyone before training 2.stand up straight + eye contact 3. Start a casual conversation in locker room 4.hop straight into pre-training rondo 5.ask to join passing or two touch Before training session. 6. Confidently ask for the ball 7. Repeat same action after a mistake 8. Take feedback with confidence: Look in the eyes and say got it! 9. Dont be the first one off the field. 10. Start up a casual conversation after session. And the most important train more. More than everyone and you will be 100% confident player. Everyday become better than you was yesterday confidence will actualy come
CANNOT emphasize enough how true this is. I'm someone that usually doesn't talk much but I'll walk into rondos knowing I got this shit. I got called out by a teammate in training for playing a risky backheel pass in defence. But it worked out. CONFIDENCE. I did the fancy stuff again. I had a good session. No one said a thing after I pulled off risky moves while it worked. They'd play the ball into me even when I demanded it in risky spots. I have the confidence to wriggle out. If I fail? I'll do it again, while obviously being aware and sensible. This is one thing you learn from players like Neymar. They'll lose the ball, come back up like nothing happened, win the game.
Soccer is simple, dudes who play scared simply don’t understand the game enough Confidence is the side effect of experience The most confident man in the world won’t be confident in a soccer game cause he doesn’t have experience
Matt, another great vid about a subject that is not spoken about enough. My young daughter who has exceptional skill struggles in this subject and we are working on bringing up the confidence quotient so thanks for posting this.
Matt I was at the Lou City vs FC Tulsa game on Saturday. I watched you a lot and I'm looking forward to your highlight tape because I know it was a difficult game for you and your team.
Hey Matt, could you do a 2-min Tuesday on playing for a team with negatives teammates/coaches? How to deal with them? Especially if they are #1 in the state...
I understand exactly what your saying. I have that problem that when I mess up, I don’t want to make that mistake again so I maybe don’t show for the ball. But instead I should get on with it and try it again to further improve myself. Another great vid!
1000000% experience matters. i joined a new team w negative confidence examplng everything matt said been at the team for 3 years now I'm captain and playing with hella confidence and it wasn't as much getting better but the time. when u have confidence nothing is hard
My dad always said, you have a free pass to be cocky on the pitch but as soon as you leave the pitch, you leave your cockiness there. He called it a light switch, you switch it on when you're playing and switch it off when you're done. That metaphor always stuck with me
Never have really had a problem playing with new people in tryouts, it’s the first few training sessions with the new team that’s a struggle with me, but this advice is very useful
Today is my first day of training for my college team. There’s no coincidence that I stumbled on this video at this exact moment, hours before we get on the pitch. Thank you for a fantastic video. I’m definitely going to be way more confident and try and change my mentality. I’ve always been that kid who “goes back in there shell”, so I’m going to be more outgoing and use different body language to demand the ball. Great video again!
Literally first day of college preseason is today and this video was already out and ready. Very helpful in my opinion, even as a goalkeeper, which tends to be a lonely position. Thank you!
Confidence is literally everything, I was probably one of the worse players in my high school team regarding with skill with the ball and so for the first 3 years I was never confident enough to ask because I felt like I would mess up, that would happen because I felt like imma mess up it made me mess up but then I started to think to myself that I shouldn’t care if I mess up in practice, that’s the point of practice, to work on your skills so it gave me the confidence that I shouldn’t care about messing up and led me to play better than ever even
I'm currently studying sport performance psychology and what you're pointing to is both intuitive/clear and proven time and time again in the research. Thanks for taking the time to talk about the importance of the mental side of the game!
Bro amazing video, you just posted this at the right time because I’ve got college trials/pre season training with my college team tomorrow! (It’s not American though so no D1 or D2 or whatever). Thank you so much Matt!😇
Mentally, I am as good as Ney. 😂😂😂 Train hard and do in the games what you practice. Learn from your mistakes. Record your games so you can watch the mistakes you make and work on those mistakes.
I have just moved to Spain from the US to play for a 5th division team here. Knowing I can do these things already makes me feel more excited and less nervous for my first training session next week. Thanks as always Matt.
Really needed this, Ive had a really rough time with trials and I have been leaving every trial knowing I am better and should have done better and I dont get on the teams ive wanted to and think i deserve to. I totally relate to shying away, I wont call for the ball, and when im on the ball i play too safe. I always try to move on from things in tryouts but its really hard those mistakes really eat at you if you let them, especially for me where i set pretty unrealistic standards for myself. But next trial I will make sure that when I make a mistake to move on like nothing happened and go to the next play.
Great video, Matt! Videos about confidence will be so valuable to a lot of players, so please create more! If you could do a video for gaining confidence in a game the way you did for a training would be great :)
this is really helping me and what to do now starting tomorrow, I just gotten into 9th grade and training with the high school now is very different and I'm very off to the side much and dont really talk, tomorrow changes little by little.
It's so cool how these simple steps can lead to so much more confidence in training and on the pitch. I'm new to this channel but am learning so much, so thanks a lot Matt.
L, u failed lol but seriously, i didn't make it because I got nervous and had little to no confidence, I didn't really listen well to this video and now that I look back at it, I'm low-key happy I didn't make it because I wasn't putting in effort in my individual training, I was still at the level to play for the team, but now compared to myself back 5 months ago, I'm am much much better.
Perfect video for my current situation Matt thank you! Currently on trial at a league one club in England and it’s going well, however I’m a very introverted person and not the most confident when it comes to meeting new people but I’m confident in my ability, I will try applying these tips for the coming weeks of my trial and see where it goes👏🏻
I had that issue once. I went for a tryout with a team in San Francisco. I was underprepared. I had no confidence going in. And i was absolutely horrible. I was so ashamed of myself that i simply left without saying a word or shaking hands. But it doesnt haunt me because it’s in the past. I just have to accept it was a bad day for me. To this day, i simply laugh it off.

The mental side is the real area that’s holding back my progress. This video has been huge for me - thank you so much Matt ❤️
I literally just started training with my new team in Germany (I’m from the U.S) yesterday. This video couldn’t of come at a better time haha.
