As far as weeds go I don’t worry about them till the following spring my entire focus is getting the baby grass to mature. Most of the weeds will die off over the winter I will apply a pre emergent in early spring

The reason to apply Mesotrione at seeding time is that it kills the weeds that are competing with your new grass seedings to become established. Much better results than waiting, IF you have a lot of weeds. If only a few it's not a big deal.
