An interesting thing I've gotten recently, a lot of people ask me about the weight in grains listed on a box of ammunition. A lot of them think that's the weight of the powder. They're surprized when I tell them it's the bullet weight.
Great video! I personaly would have explained the difference between centerfire and rimfire ammunition as well, but the rest was very easy to understand.
I knew all this! 🧐🤔 ok I’m lying!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣!! This guy was very informative and impressive as he went through talking about all the different rounds without hesitation and saying “ uhm” or pausing at all!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Sound information about gear (to the best of my knowledge), as always. You should do a video about basic bullet types; FMJ, HP, FN HCL, steel core, etc.
Good information especially to all the new gun owners out there who may be somewhat confused about terminology and what every thing means (which is pretty much the same thing 🧐😉😊) 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸👍👍
I was allways under the impression that belted cases were belted to add more brass to the web area and bases due to the extra pressures of those big magnum cases.
Quite a few generalizations. For example, not all 44 magnums headspace off the rim ... autoloaders such as Desert Eagle and AMP headspace off the case mouth.
Could have done with a mention of Rimfire cartridges, and mentioning the Head of the cartridge, and perhaps showing an empty casing so a novice could see the flash-hole and then perhaps just explaining what a component like a primer does to the powder... Also - I'm starting a new movement to rename the "anatomy" of cartridges... The fact that the head is nowhere near the shoulder or neck has always pee'd me off more than it should - I declare from this day forward that the head of the cartridge be referred to as the bottom, and the flash-hole as the arse-hole ;)
I am new to guns. Are all bullet shapes called ojives. Is a ball shape or Spitzer or double cone still called an ojive. Or just ojives are ojives? Thanks.
Pardon my ignorance, but if the rim on a rimless cartridge is the same diameter as the case, what holds it in the chamber? What prevents it from sliding down the barrel?
I was taught you do measure COAL from the tip of the bullet to the base. Not from the ojive of the bullet to the base. Measuring COAL from the ojive is dangerous as you will end up with bullets that don't safely fit into magazines or clips.
You were taught incorrectly. The safety issue is the pressure in the chamber, which is affected by bullet seating depth and distance from or distance beyond the start of the lands. The OAL length only matters for making sure they fit in mags. However, OAL is fine for a lot of flat nosed projectiles.
@MusicMan1eAnda...not everyone loads only for those “common” cartridges...I still load For .264 Winchester magnum, 250/3000 Savage, .44 WCF, .38 WCF...all obsolete cartridges...yo make a good point though 😎👍👍😎
That was interesting and very informative, please do more on this subject.
the 30-30 clip was added twice during the editing
Thank you. I thought it was the beer making me confused.
30-30 is the best and that’s why it’s added twice!

Is the inner diameter of the barrel equal to the bullet diameter or the cartridge diameter?

@@brownells My comments are always meant to help the channel's analytics and make it the videos better through constructive criticism ;)
Thank you good sir.

Was just thinking same thing . Hopefully Brownells can do some more Back to basics like this for the new to firearms ownership
Thank you for putting out these very informative videos some of the terminology I have known and some I haven't
The More you Know 🌈 🌟 Great video! 👍🏼
These vids are great... Thax..!
Thank you for this awesome video
This guy has the best hair of anyone at Brownells
Fact!
Fact indeed.
I was allways under the impression that belted cases were belted to add more brass to the web area and bases due to the extra pressures of those big magnum cases.
A benefit, but not the original purpose.
It's amazing how this bullet line-up look like the micro versions of Saturn V rockets.
you explained bottleneck rounds twice.
Rebated and recessed are same ?
Love the videos. Informative and to the point.
thanks, keep this kind of vids!

I dont believe I've seen the last one in person hands on , interesting
Do you have videos explaining what intermediate cartridges are?
This guy looks like he just got off set of an Andy Griffith set.
Thats where we hired him from!
You say that like it is a bad thing.

I am new to guns. Are all bullet shapes called ojives. Is a ball shape or Spitzer or double cone still called an ojive. Or just ojives are ojives? Thanks.
Yes, ogive is the curvature at the tip of the bullet, regardless of type. If it has a curve, it has an ogive.
@@CalebSavant The only bullet I can think of without an ojive is a full wad cutter.
Pardon my ignorance, but if the rim on a rimless cartridge is the same diameter as the case, what holds it in the chamber? What prevents it from sliding down the barrel?
There is a ridge cut in the chamber.
Does Brownell have a video about cartridge designations, ie what does .30-30 and .30-06 mean?
Paul Harrell does and it's fairly in-depth.
Somehow, you skipped the straight wall rimless head space.
Cartridges like most semiautomatic pistols head space off the rim.
Does a semi rimmed cartridge rimlock?

Where does the straight wall non rimmed cartridge headspace? Asking for a friend
At the case mouth.
Nice. It could be longer with more info. Thanks
Why add a shoulder and next to a cartridge?
To increase case capacity.
Why not use the most common cartridges like 9mm and .223?

both are pretty small and difficult to hold and film at the same time
Didn't this video release earlier today?
Right? Thought I was having another episode.
THERE’S 4-MINUTES OF MY LIFE I’LL NEVER GET BACK...😐
Why did you watch it then?
Is it too much 2020 to say « first »?
Nah, I'll let you have it.
Are you new? More like 2005 and it has ALWAYS been totally OK and will remain so forever.
I literally did not expect to bump into a video that was « 1 second ago » old 😂
